Pavlik is generally soft and scrawny, he's NOT a very big guy (Jermain Taylor is bigger), he's just tall and rangy. Martinez comes in over 170 by fight time (at least as much as Kelly), rock solid. Pure muscle. His arms must be a goof 1.5-2" bigger than Kelly's & his joints and waist are naturally bigger. (Im not reducing this to bodybuilding measurements btw, but it's no sillier than reducing it to height, either). Tszyu probably couldn't have ever made 135, let alone 126. He's barrel chested, thick waisted and thick boned with sturdy extremities. Like a Hatton or a Hagler, his frame and style limited him to one division for purely boxing reasons, but his frame would easily have held enough muscle to go up 1, 2, divisions without getting flabby, I guarantee it. He probably could have been a good powerlifter, actually, he just has a thick, sturdy frame that could carry allot of muscle evenly. Marquez at approx 145lb fight time (?) Tszyu at a similar or higher weight, fight time. Look how thick and solid his waist is. Look at his JOINTS. Just natural size and strength at that weight: You're wrong on this one, mate.
He is when he's fighting against a fellow junior welter & the only distinct feature of it being at 'welter' is that neither of them went through the formality of cutting and rehydrating back to exactly what they would have weighed anyway. Against a real, regular sized welter who weighed 160 in the ring (Collazo) it was very different. This is very tedious.:Steve-Dave/MMA:
If JMM fought at 140 in his prime, he would have cleared out the division. He is that great. And Martinez is no where near the fighter JMM is.
I think JMM is a very good fighter, but I don't know that I would say he's "Great" What is it that makes him "Great" as opposed to just very good. Looking through his resume, I see a bunch of good fighters, but nothing that makes me say "Damn he is great" He did lose to Chris John in his "Prime"
Have you guys even seen Martinez against Pavlik? Pavlik looked 2 divisions bigger. And Martinez fought like a guy who was fighting a guy 2 divisions bigger, ie like Pac against Oscar etc. Marquez and Tszyu are the same height. But it's not like comparing Guerrero to say, Arabham, who are both the same height but Guerrero is very lean and Arabham is a chunky little tank. Marquez and Tszyu's build is very similar. Tszyu has a bigger waist and thighs, I guarantee you the rest of the tale of the tape would be close, arms, fist, calves, shoulders etc. Marquez has always been a big featherweight, probably a natural 130 pounder IMO, and Tszyu is a fairly small 140 pounder, looks more like a lightweight. I fucking GUARANTEE you that if Marquez and Tszyu stepped into the ring, the size difference would be less noticeable than Martinez against Pavlik. To reiterate, I'm not saying Marquez is bigger than Tszyu, Tszyu IS bigger, but the size difference is closer, without a doubt.
marquez is a natural 130lber, and pacquiao is a natural featherweight. this guy should begin taking coping with senility classes at his local YMCA
What? What exactly is the problem with saying Manny is a natural featherweight and Marquez a natural 130 pounder? Marquez looked like the bigger man in both fights. Pacquiao's success at the higher weights is irrelevant. It's due to style, and Pacquiao's freakish ability to pack on muscle, and retain speed/power. Pacquiao being able to compete at 147 doesn't mean he's a bigger man than Marquez. But I guess I'm not that surprised that you're too fucking stupid to understand that.
Aside from the completely birdbrained logic he's using, Mex is drawing conclusions based on half assed pictures again. Pacquiao's legs are much bigger than Marquez's.
i love that hut chooses this pic to illustrate Marquez http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n268/hingedman/62455837.jpg
Agree. Tszyu often came into the ring above 150 lbs. Against Hurtado he might have been 154, I think. He's bigger than JMM by quite a bit. Martinez is, at most, a weight class less than Pavlik.
No, his calves are bigger. Did you think Pacquiao looked bigger than Marquez in their two fights? If anyone is using half assed pictures, it's Hut Hut. Like LOK said, :: at the picture of Marquez against Floyd.
It's not just his calves. Pac's quads are enormous compared to Marquez's. Plus his whole frame is bigger, as I pointed out in another thread and you conveniently ignored because for once in your life, you joined everyone else around in you realizing that you're a colossal dumbass.
Mex, you do realise a poll was actually included in this one and it's 20-2 against you, right? The mental scotoma you have where 'I might be be wrong' should be is blocking it out like a big shitty brown blob.
Choose any pictures you want. Please. How about this one: This one? This one? This one? This one? Any one you like.
Where's the poll? I don't see one. Have you manually tallied up the numbers? Either way, I'm right. The size difference is close, but clearly greater in Martinez Vs Pavlik. Marquez is a big featherweight, and Tszyu is a small 140 pounder, and they are the same height. Not only would the size difference not look HUGE in the ring, but a prime Marquez would win.
I think the 7 - 6 - 5lbs apart divisions are an absolute joke anyway, you could easily hold 5lbs on the tip of your finger, they are merely glamourising the lower weights, 'making champions of everybody' in exchange for fees. Hey it works though, it's a great con job,.. you could get a fighter who beats 4 paper champions, or 5?... da IBO da IBO, da IBO.... move up a mere 7lbs and collect 5 more,.. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... 10 belts!!... unified 2 divisions,... that 'sounds' lovely,.. better than....................'boring mandatories' ... A 'genuine' 200lb cruiserweight, and I repeat 'genuine' not artificially enhanced,.. fighting a 240lb + fighter,.. like Chambers - Klitschko as an example,..is a real 'move up' attempt, that's when size matters,...that's a bit more than the fucken 2.2 kilogram 'safety barrier'.
Nah. I thought that way once, but the truth is, once you get to 200 pounds even a similar weight differential ratio has less effect than the lighter weights. A big man is a big man. And that small level of poundage can be more significant than you think. So many times we see a fighter move up 5 or 7 pounds and it be a step too far, and them look slightly out of their element and slightly undersized. Fighting at the right division has become somewhat of a science, and it's rare for someone to be able to move up and be as dominant as their natural division. Even old Marquez looks SLIGHTLY undersized at 135, he only wins because he's much better than his opponents.
We're all being a little too indulgent on these divisions Mex, ESPECIALLY for an entire sport thoroughly rife with performance enhancers,..it makes 2.2kg even less significant. Mere Belt-collecting / resume-enhancing stuff, the lower weights never go through a 'depression' period,.. but the larger ones always seem so 'dead' ,... not enough 'champions' or even former division champions to beat,.. even the heavyweight "GOLDEN ERA!!!" ...contained... 3 fighters, 3 measely fighters is what constitutes a golden era for heavyweights,.. I say, let's indulge the giants like we do for the lower weights with 7lb barriers...and a shiiiiiiiiiitload of belts. 175, 182, 189, 196, 203, 210, 217, 224, 231, 238, 245+ ,.. :crafty: ..champions of us all, champions of us all..
