Ray Leonard (Hagler fight) vs Prime Bernard Hopkins at 160lbs

Discussion in 'Mythical Matchups' started by Destruction and Mayhem, Apr 28, 2011.

  1. How does Ray cope with the combination of height, reach and spoiling tactics of the MASTER of disaster, Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins.

Does Ray's combination punches and crazy flurries win him the day..or is Bernard too much man for him.

Hopkins wins but has to pull it out in the late rounds...as he'll be trailing slightly after 6 on account of Leonard stealing early rounds with his showboating and shoeshining.

Bernard with the edge in stamina down the stretch would have figured his man out after 5 rounds and would win 6 of the remaining 7 rounds.

If it's the Leonard that fought Hagler I think a peak Hopkins wins clearly. And I think Hagler could have won had he fought a sensible fight instead of trying to prove something.

Agreed completely. Early the fight is tricky for Bernard but he figures it out

Bernard by decision. Wouldn't be total domination, but a clear win.

Prime Hopkins UD, a prime Hagler would've beaten Leonard as well.

Don't you think Leonard was 1000 times the fighter Hopkins ever was?

Better, but not a thousand times better, and not good enough to overcome the layoff period/size disadvantage.

I think a prime Bernard Hopkins is one of the most complete and technically sound fighters in the history of boxing. I can't think of a single thing he did poorly or incorrectly.
