Whats Mex's position on this matchup?:::: Never was a Tszyu fan.... and Chico is probably a top 10 all time fav of mine, but doesnt matter. Tszyu would have beaten Corrales up BAAADDD.
Corrales is too much man for Tszyu. Obviously it's tempting to think oh Castillo KO'd him with one punch, Tszyu KO's him easy. But that fight was after one of the most shockingly violent fights in history, and Chico clearly wasn't the same. The pre Castillo Chico could be hurt and dropped, but he recovered quick, and didn't get KO'd. I think Tszyu gets Cool Vince'd to be honest. Too much heart and too much power for the ugly, greasy, little barrel chested mongoloid.
I agree, it's basically a question of which round Tszyu wilts in, after taking flush hook after hook from Chico, getting Vince'd.
Heart can only get you so far. Corrales having more heart than Tszyu means nothing when Tszyu is the bigger puncher, faster handed, better chin, better defense, more skills, more brains, stronger, bigger, and just plain better.
Corrales has faster hands and more offensive skill. He is also clearly the bigger puncher in a P4P sense. Tszyu was a basic, jab right hand fighter. There's nothing skilled or clever about him. He had good timing, accuracy, power on the right hand and was good at gauging distance, but that's about it.
Maybe you feel more energetic or whatever it is but you should really not stop taking your medication.
Tszyu wins no doubt. But Corrales has the faster hands and more power, make no mistake. Agreed with the rest though...
Corrales' handspeed is underrated...primarily because of the mayweather fight. When Diego let his hands go it was spectacular.
but against top flight opposition, the spectacular part would be him getting wobbled by what comes back at him when he tries letting those hands go
Corrales is getting a bit underrated and Tszyu a bit overrated. I honestly could Corrales winning this one, he was a HUGE puncher & it wouldn't surprise me in the least. Tszyu would still have to be favored just because of Corrales' post-135 record, but Chico is still a very live dog here.
You see, I'm half kidding with my responses on this thread, living up to my good name as a Tszyu hater. In all seriousness I would have to make Tszyu the favourite based on the fact that he fought at 140, was fairly sturdy at 140, and Corrales was somewhat fragile. The main thing is Chico was just SO fucking hittable, and if nothing else, Tszyu has a hard, accurate right hand. I wouldn't be surprised one bit though if Chico just outgutted Tszyu, whethered a couple of early knockdowns and fucking VINCE'D Tszyu late on, pummeling him against the ropes with his short, hard, accurate hooks. He was a way better infighter than Tszuy, and his hooks were fucking quick. Tszyu probably had a quicker jab, but Corrales' power shots were clearly faster, as were his combinations.
The other point being that Tszyu never quit in his career until the very last fight, at the beginning of the very last round, when he was well into his thirties. Needless to say he has been conveniently shuffled into the "Quit" category, which is utterly unfair. Kostya is simply all wrong for Chico- I don't think Chico could apply the sort of pressure needed to discomfit Tszyu and that gives Tszyu the one thing you don't want to give him- time. Tszyu would beat him up and stop him, with big lefts to Chicos long body playing a key role.
Spectacular is an overstatement. Corrales had quick hands, but prime Tszyu had quicker hands and despite being "robotic" prime Tszyu was far more athletic than Corrales.
I don't know about that. Tszyu may have the faster straight shots, but Corrales had a very fast and compact left hook.
Only Tszyu's jab was faster. His right hand was nice, straight and accurate, but not faster than Chico's power shots. Chico's left hooks came out of nowhere, they were fucking quick, and hard, and accurate. His combos were also quicker than mongoloid boy.
Zoo quit against Hatton & was KTFO by Vince, therefore (based on his two worst showings), you must conclude that the only thing up for debate is whether or not Zoo quits in time to not get KTFO.
Tszyu had quicker hands for single shots. That straight right hand was a laser and Tszyu threw it with speed and precision. Corrales had quicker combinations, at least on the inside. His combos flowed smoothly and he knew how to minimize the distance the punch traveled. I was pretty impressive with the speed of his hands on the inside. Tszyu stops Chico, regardless.
I don't even know if Tszyu was "robotic"- he never would have caught up to Judah as early as the 2nd round {he had actually figured him out by the end of the first} if he was "robotic". Tzsyu was methodical and liked time and space and liked to dictate the pace. Take that away from him {and very few fighters would have, Mayweather being one of them} and you will find yourself in trouble and you will find yourself being hit. True, Corralles showed balls and toughness versus Castillo, but that was at 135, no? 140 is just another step up and its right into Kostyas comfort zone. Kostya had out-worked and figured-out taller fighters before, like Roger Mayweather, and faster fighters, like Judah. The truth of the matter is that Zoo made a mistake in the run up to the Phillips fight, the same mistake Barrera had made in the run up to the Junior Jones fight, that of thinking he was a walk-in tank who could stop 'em all. He made some adjustments, returned to the style which he referred to as "Artistic Execution" and proceeded to smack the shit out of a lot of very good fighters. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvjSeBML5Cc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqLhPutAl6Y&feature=fvwrel
agREED... While REED would FAVOR Tszyu, Dude had SHAKY Defense of his Own AND Chico was a TRUE Puncher...This Mythical Matchup ISN'T as Cut & Dried as Some R Making it Out to Be...Probably a 70-30, 65-35 Edge for Tszyu @ MOST.... REED:hammert:
