Always a great match-up on the game. If i'm knocked down to the canvas on two occasions, I find it a struggle getting back up. A third time and i'm practically a gonner. Pea is my favourite fighter on the game.

I'd favor every one of them over Duran.

Chavez would slam his body a few times and make him quit like the bitch he was. DLH's quick hook would have Duran's ass on the canvas. Mosley outworks him. Whitaker frustrates him. Floyd gives him a clinic.

Duran would have a chance against any of these guys because he was a great fighter, particularly at lightweight. He's just so f'ing overrated it's ridiculous.

    Fuck Duran.

Chavez Vs Rosario is an impressive performance, probably the best Chavez has looked, but I guess you just rate Rosario more highly than I do.

Although admittedly I haven't seen the fight, didn't Rosario get stopped in just a couple of rounds a couple years before the Chavez fight by Ramirez?

It's not like Chavez has done anything close to beating a prime Leonard like Duran did at WW, in fact people actually joke about Chavez's level of opposition for a huge portion of his career. People talk about them as if they're on the same level. Chavez's best win is Rosario, Duran's best win is a prime Leonard at 147. I mean come on.

I think both Marquez and Pacquiao are significantly better than anyone Chavez has beaten.

I'm not trolling. Sure, people I respect worship Duran, but I've seen enough of him to think otherwise.

He gets the same damn treatment that Toney and Holyfield do--ignore the shit performances (and losses) and focus on the impressive performances.

Duran quit like a bitch more than once. Probably never quit against a horse that couldn't hit back, though.

All of them are good fights, Whitaker is the one most likely to pull it off. I started looking for Whitaker in the poll without even thinking about it.

Hmm, Duran quit once Vs Leonard. Chavez quit twice

You have to be trolling mikE, because although I could see some picking Pacman, Floyd, Whitaker over Duran (not Mosley), no one in their right mind could think Chavez wins that fight, probably not even Chavez.

Chavez was smaller, weaker, slower, and less skilled. He'd get utterly manhandled.

I agree that Chavez is the worst among those fights. Chavez would be lost in there with Duran.

Pac has no chance whatsoever. Castillo arguably beat Floyd at LW, but Floyd could beat Duran? No way.

Again, Whitaker is the only LW I'd be willing to risk $$ on for this fight.

Oh, and if you thought DLH was tired against MAG, what do you think he would look like against Duran? He has the biggest size advantage here, but I still don't think DLH would last the distance due to his stamina issues.

Maybe the best out-of-nowhere victory this side of Corrales/Castillo I ... Rosario was dominating, floored Ramirez twice and seemed on the verge of stopping him (would have been remarkable, as Ramirez was durable as hell) when out of nowhere Ramirez caught him, backed him staggering into a corner and poured it on until the ref stopped it

The issue is not whether Chavez is comparable with Duran (He's not), it is whether Marquez can be said to be "greater" than him. To me, there's not a chance in hell.

Marquez gets the vast majority of his credit from a loss and a draw. Chavez from 1984-1992 came close to losing only one time in a classic with a terrific fighter with the perfect style to give him trouble... other than that, he was as steady as a rock, skillful and strong, tungsten-chinned and one fo the most accurate, painful punchers ever, the very definition of heavy-handed ... it's not just Rosario and Taylor... he faced a long line of good fighters and beat them all, he was remarkably consistent

Marquez is Pac's Ken Norton basically... he's greater than Norton by some distance, but he basically has Pac's number... outside of the loss, what exactly is Marquez's best "win"? Barrera? an older, more tentative Barrera at that, one who had hardly looked much like his prime years in unimpressively decisioning Rocky Juarez? Casamayor? Diaz? The same Manuel Medina that had already lost a thousand times to guys like gainer, Ingle and Hamed and Tom Johnson? Is it Derrick gainer? Michael Katsidis?

You are talking about Rosario losing to Ramirez... how about Marquez losing to Chris John and Freddie Norwood, of all people? Chavez's resume shits all over Marquez's and if we study the fighters strengths and weaknesses, Chavez would clearly be on top... he was stronger, hit harder, had a vastly superior chin, his victories are against better opposition... Marquez would get beat up and stopped by Chavez at 130 or 135 and he wouldn't win a minute of the fight at 140... He'd fare even worse against Duran

I'm amazed anyone could see it differently TBH.

I agree he would be lost, and unable to do anything. To top it off, Duran is bigger.

I voted for Shane Mosley. I still think he was a beast at 135, the most impressive lightweight I have seen since... well, since Duran.

In the end I don't think think Floyd or Pea have the firepower + workrate needed to win the fight vs. Duran.

    DLH doesn't have the stamina.

Chavez doesn't have the strength or skill (I do think Duran is better than him in every category).

Pacquiao maybe, but i think Duran roughs him up and wins. Hard to measure Pacquiao for me at the moment.

I would pick Prime Duran over all of them, some close, some not so close.

    Better than CHAVEZ?? :laugh11:

Camacho would outbox Marquez head off at any weight...and Rosario would rip his head off....

Chavez treated those two as human punching bags....

I don't think Mosley would fare well against Duran, personally. IMO Pea, Pac, and Floyd are the best and most competitive fights of the bunch.

    Agreed.

Mosley had fast hands at lightweight and was a big lightweight, he had very good power, great chin, blah blah. All good on paper. But he was always a spurt fighter. Duran would have outworked him.

Pea and Floyd would have reduced Duran's punch output and frustrated him...and Pac's southpawedness and hand and foot speed would have given Duran fits...espcially as Pac could MORE THAN match Duran's workrate if needed.

Mosley and Duran would be a great great scrap with Shane coming out on the losing end...I agree with that. Not sure if Duran stops him, but he takes a tremendous amount of punishment along the way.

At 135 I'm not sure Floyd was physically strong enough todeal with Duran...especially based on the first castillo fight. Before Floydidiots run in to don their Captain SaveAHoe leotards, hurt shoulder or no Floyd had a tough scrap with Castillo and in the rematch with a good shoulder played keep away for the majority of the fight.

I'm not sure "winning" like that against Duran is truly a win.

I could just as easily say I think Pacquiao would beat the fuck out of Chavez at any weight (which he would). And look how Marquez's fights with him went.

The truth is I would pick Marquez over Camacho and Rosario.

Camacho has faster hands but Marquez is a better boxer.

Rosario would rip his head off? Well Pacquiao, a vastly superior offensive fighter, couldn't rip Marquez's head and neither has ANYONE up to this point, and Marquez is almost 40 years old.

So no, Rosario isn't coming close to ripping Marquez's head off. Prime Marquez takes both of them.

I also disagree with Marquez being a Ken Norton.

Something about his style does kind of have Manny's number, but you're almost acting like that's it, that's all he's got to show for himself. The fact is, once he grew into himself as a fighter, he was a formidable featherweight, and even now, pushing 40, he's netting some impressive wins at lightweight.

Whitaker runs away with this but it's humorous how Manny and Shane have the same amount of votes.

Must admit I'm amazed Whitaker is landsliding this.

I don't know, he just doesn't seem to have the firepower or physical strength to deter Duran from mauling the shit out of him.

    His defense and counter punching.....

Defense...why Whitaker and not Mayweather...Whitaker defense is much better and more complex..Mayweather should rolls, counter and blocks and uses distance. Only time he bends down is tie his shoes and allow the ref to stop his oponent from coming forward..

I've changed my mind on Pacquiao vs Chavez based upon the improvements i've seen in Manny over the last few years. Key among them is being able to fight going backward.

Even if somebody still picks Chavez i wouldn't bother arguing as points could still be made in his favor, however one thing is certain. It would NOT be a one sided beating in favor of either.

It would be a better fight than Morales-Pac

That's why, because Whitaker wouldn't try to use firepower or strength.

He'd be popping south-paw jabs and using subtle movement to frustrate Duran. Whitaker would not come close to trying what Leonard did in Montreal.

I don't think Pernell beats him, but stylewise he may have the best chance to pull it off.

Prime Marquez was a 126 pounder...so yes Camacho would outbox his ears off and Rosario would rip his head from his body....
