What were the best Movie sequels of all time!

I'd like this topic to focus on not necessarily what was a good film in it's own right but what was a good sequel. In other words it lived up to expectations for those who loved the first film.

Btw....to qualify as a SEQUEL in this thread it has to be the SECOND film in a franchise and must continue he story of the first.

Godfather 2

I wouldn't rate Terminator 2, for example. It was a very enjoyable movie, in some ways more enjoyable than the original (original was better though)..but it was a TERRIBLE sequel, IMO....as it didn't respect the history given in the first film and went a different direction entirely.

Godfather 2 on the other hand is probably the best actual film of all sequels, but although it stayed true to the original story, it was both a sequel and a prequel and so i wouldn't personally rate it the highest sequel ever made.

I rate The Empire Strikes Back at the top followed closely by Superman 2, Aliens, X men 2 and Back to the Future 2.

 

I don't know about all time, but listing any good sequels i think qualifies and most suck ass.

It was lower budget and they replaced Linda Fiorentino with a different actress, but i still though The Last Seduction 2 was enjoyable for a sequel.

 

Agree...only difference is that Terminator 2 falls to the bottom..and the other two move up...and include Dawn Of The Dead into the mix right above T:2

Two Towers was pretty good.

 

Does The Empire Strikes Back qualify? Seems like a grey area --- I mean, it was the film's second franchise, & the immediate follow-up to the, "first," film, but it's clearly not second in the franchise's chronology.

BTW, if any film after the second is not, "a sequel," what is it called, Sly?

 

I am not especially enamoured with those films (I enjoyed them, but wouldn't likely watch them again), but I thought the second one was the strongest offering.
