    Fuck him!

I hate when once great fighters just give up and are willing to merely survive. He even admitted it!

And Nazim Richardson is the most overrated trainer in boxing. he had ZERO strategy for Shane in this fight. Zero.

Shane hardly threw a body shot, Manny's most obvious weakness and Shane's most obvious strength!! I mean WTF???!!

    Very disappointing night.

Anyway I thought the scoring was interesting..two judges gave Pacquiao a score of 120..which means he scored 10s in all 12 rounds. This mean...that they completely ignored the bogus KD of Manny...justifiably so...but I thought that judges are bound to accept the Refs judgement??

    Thoughts?

    Agreed!

Judges should have given Shane 9-9 for the "knockdown".

This reminded me of Barrera in his rematch with Pacquiao. It was just as bad this afternoon (tonight, your time). Mosley was utterly, utterly pathetic. We all knew he was over-matched & was likely to get out-classed, but this was different from that. This was a fighter who quit in every way short of staying on the stool.

    Shit effort, shit fight.

My only hope is that after this shitty night of boxing, that Mayweather and Pacquiao fight because people won't again pay for such a shitty PPV.

Unlikely, but I can hope, right?

It wasn't just his age...it was the fact that he didn't try to win. He showed no courage. Very disappointing, reminds me of how I felt when Roy didn't try to win the 3rd Tarver fight.

I can´t figure out whether some sanctioning bodies have different scoring systems, but the general idea is that you use a ten point must system.

For some fights that means you score the round, in that case 10-9 Pacquiao, and deduct the point for the knockdown from the total scores in the end, which indeed means Manny can´t have a 120 score.

Others score the round 10-9 Manny, immediately deduct the point effectively making it a 9-9 round, but since it´s 10 point must, it is scored 10-10.

Or they just ignored Kenny Bayless.

    Thoughts on the fight.

    1) Roach had Manny very cautious early. I haven't seen the punch stats yet, it looked like he was throwing 40-45 punches in the first couple of rounds
    2) Although I thought Mosley might have had a decent outside punchers chance, IF HE TRIED TO EXPLOIT IT, Mosley really is thick as shit as a fighter & he didn't. Instead of trying to play to his advantages in this fight, he tried to recreate the strategy of a featherweight Marquez. Did he throw 2 purposeful right hands through the first 2 rounds? Like I said in the prediction thread, as soon as we got 90s in and Shane was fighting that cautiously, we knew the fight was over because Shane couldn't win a low impact boxing match against Manny in a million years. He could only get lucky in a brawl he forced.

So Sly is right, Mosley effectively bitched out. He bartered for the tacit agreement many opponents made with a prime RJJ or a Klit today - I'll not try to win, if you let me go 12. And Sly is also right that Nazim is extremely overrated.

    Retire, Shane.

Floyd-Shane was a far more relevant fight than was the case last night. I usually defend the Manny side of most arguments, but aside from the 3rd round knockdown, I'm not sure how anyone can argue that anything about last night went in Manny's favor if comparing the two fights.

A few thoughts on the fight and then I ramble a lot

Oddly enough, despite an embarrassing performance, Shane showed some interesting chinks in the Pac armor. First, addressing Shane, I will say that he clearly had openings and opportunities to let his hands go, but he didn't. He threw maybe 3 right hands all night. He tried body shots once or twice, landed them, then gave up on that, too. Was he too slow to pull the trigger? Too scared? Too stupid? Just there for the payday? I don't know. But I agree with the sentiment that Shane (again) really didn't even try to win this fight despite having a legitimate chance (though small) to do so.

On Pac - wow. Now we know how you cut Pac's output in half and make him look ordinary and somewhat boring. TURN him. Don't (ever ever) go straight backwards, and if you must do so, take no more than one step to get clear and then make a short turn. I never noticed it before, but Pac cannot continue any sort of rhythm when he is constantly being turned. He resets, and he has trouble with combinations unless his opponent is essentially "linear". Pac follows great, he obviously hits stationary (Margarito) targets well, but the quick turns confound him. He is used to a certain pattern with these bigger guys, lots of cover up and step backwards. Shane doesn't do that.

I am sure it is more easily said than done, but if you punch on the angles you get when you turn Manny, there are ample opportunities to whack him, and he is not in great position to respond. That being said, it's Pac, so you will of course be countered at times. I am getting a better understanding now of why JMM had so much success vs. Pac. I really hate to say this, since I detest Floyd, but I think Mayweather probably wins a fight with Pac, although Pac makes Floyd work incredibly hard for 12 rounds and makes it very, very close. It is still a great fight, and there is no question Pac could win it, but I am beginning to see why Pac looks so good against a certain type/size fighter but yet does not look so good against other size/types that you would "expect" him to be great against.

I also felt like Pac's workrate is inching toward that downward slope now at what 32 years old? No huge deal yet, and Mosley's style contributed heavily to the pace of the fight, but Pac was flat in terms of that aggressive pace we are used to. At 147 or 154, Pac's workrate sets him apart, and he needs it to come out on top in those weights. So we will see how he does next time out, but PBF/Pac needs to happen right now or never. I sincerely hope that Pac announces a retirement date and then PBF or no, he retires and DOES NOT come back. Give it another 18 months or so and then be done with it.

I am going to miss Pac when he goes, whenever that may be. I can already tell how spoiled he has made me by how "boring" the Mosley fight seemed to be, even though Pac's output was probably just about right for a fight at welter. But I am so used to Pac being so fucking dominant and invincible that anything less seems like a disappointment. That is truly a testament to how great a fighter he is. Manny Pac is not just great because of all his skill - he is great because he works his ass off every second of every fucking round. God, I wish more fighters had that attitude. I know the PED thing looms large, but I can't help but admire Manny Pac for bringing an "old school" hunger and competitiveness back to modern boxing. It is so refreshing and so needed - it is almost like nature had to create a Manny Pac to counterbalance the shitfest that is Floyd Mayweather Jr.

In many ways I am beginning to see PBF's refusal to fight Pac as an almost epic INSULT. For me, it is reaching the point of overshadowing Floyd's career, and I mean that. The constant state of willingness & preparedness that Manny brings to his profession contrasted with Floyd's baby mama drama, iPhone stealing, domestic battery, and general verbal diarrhea is stark and jaw-dropping. Floyd talks shit while Manny speaks respectfully and fearlessly fights the best at a frantic pace. I now firmly believe that Floyd's career and achievements should ALL be seen through the tint of his embarrassing, cowardly, juvenile, petty, transparent, and tragic refusal to step up and fight Pac. It is THAT significant, IMO.

Shane should not get any more significant fights after this.

He can't be trusted to give a proper performance.

Very disappointed in him. If that was his gameplan, he should have just not signed the fight. His plan was to rob everyone with a sparring session.

It's an interesting point, and true to a degree. I noticed the same thing.

However, I honestly think a large part of it was Manny got suckered into a sparring session with Mosley. All the buddy buddy stuff and glove touching got to him, perhaps he's lost some of his violent streak, and for the most part it resembled a sparring session.

When Pacquiao turned the heat up Mosley was overwhelmed, whether he was trying to "turn" Manny or not.

we have all seen shane for years, theres nothing cowardly about the man...only a simple minded fool would sum him up that way. he just cant do it anymore, physically or mentally and the fight proved it. was the fight a sham? absolutely, should have never been made. hopefully, shane will retire for good...

Everyone has a certain something they can't bring themself to face up to & I don't think Shane could bear getting KO'd in this fight. If he was gonna lose he wanted to go out on his feet and his reputation for toughness intact if nothing else. But deep down he knew he had to take that risk to pursue his only (outside) chance of winning.

'Cowardice'' is too aspersive/emotive here, but he didn't take the chances he needed to.

I agree with alot of what everyone has been saying. You guys make great points. But like I've said 39 is 39 and the dude is just old. There was no speed or nothing. And yes he fought scared but damn to be honest I feel that the knockdown he suffered against Forrest was far worst then the knockdown against Manny. Hell he was sleep after getting caught with that upper cut on the ropes. That being said Shane has been a brawler a guy that fights going forwards and last night he did something that he just don't have the skills to do and that is box. Shane actually had chances last night but whatever reason just couldn't pull the trigger. That tells me he's too old. Now for those that claim Shane couldn't wouldn't have a chance to beat Manny 9 years ago I disagree. Shane would have been able to let his hands go which would have caused problems. But like many have said Shane needs to retire. And yes his chick is fucking bangin. What an upgrade! I'll Holla 5000

I agree, it was a shameful performance. Shane Mosley was a coward and even admitted he didn't want to take a chance to be ko'd. Horrible performance and I hope he retires for good.
