Personally, I would get into the ring with Lacy way before I would get in the cage with GSP. There is no way this could be considered ducking.
Not to in any way insinuate that Diaz is ducking Lacy, clearly he's just looking for the best career option. But sparring is very different from a fight. I've sparred with Eubank, and done OK, even though I'm a 5'9 lightweight. Eubank would bash me in a pro fight even now :: just like Andre Ward would smash Diaz in about 60 seconds. And however shot Lacy is, it IS a fight Diaz could lose. Boxing in MMA is a long way from catching up with pro boxing. Anderson Silva, the best striker in MMA, would probably lose to Roy, who is also laughably shot, put it that way.
Not in a boxing ring. Even this version of Roy beats Silva in a boxing match. Diaz against Lacy I'm not sure, I haven't seen Lacy's most recent fight, he might be even more shot than against Roy.
Probably. Its still a brave fight for a guy with no AM experience to fight a former champ in his pro debut.
Silva is a fighting genius, has trained in boxing and has fought professionally. I don get why people imagine that shot boxers can't lose to other great combat athletes. Do you also think Wlad Klitchko would lose to Ernesto Hoost? Because he wouldn't. Secondly, more than one Muay Thai fighters have won WORLD championships in boxing with very little experience, let alone beating a 44 year old who goes down at the first clean punch that lands.
Diaz has one pro fight already. Anderson Silva, for anyone who doesn't know is 1-1 in boxing. He got TKO'd by some scrub and TKO'd some Scrub
You realise that Silva has lost to a scrub in boxing right? They are two different sports, even though somewhat closely related. Just like Toney got crushed by Randy in MMA and would get crushed by Silva, the same Toney would crush Silva in a boxing match. If Silva fights someone like that in boxing, as he's talked about, I'll bet money with you that he loses.
Diaz has been talking about boxing forever. However, your moronic ass said that Diaz didn't starting pushing for GSP until Lacy signed the contract. And as with most of the garbage you spew, that's complete bullshit.
He began martial arts training at the age of 14, training Tae kwon do and earning a black belt by the age of 18. Not that any amount of MA training has any relevance to a boxing match.
As I said.... Not to mention the guy he fought was like 10-2 and a lot older than him. Let Silva had fought that guy after years of performing at an elite level in Muay Thai around Brazil and training in boxing with top trainers as he is now. Second your point about Toney losing in MMA is irrelevant. MMA is a hybrid sport, involving grappling throws a lot out of the window. Boxers can beat kickboxers and Muay Thai fighters in their own sports and vice versa.
Having done Thai Boxing and actual boxing I can tell you the overall level of hand techniques and skill in offense and defense isn't as close as you might think. In a pure Muay Thai match the boxing can look pretty good, but up against a real boxer there's going to be a big difference. Against any half decent boxer, Silva would lose.
http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=861&cat=boxer Explain this then? Muay Thai fighter and wins a world title in 10 fights.
Both Klitschko brothers were also kickboxers before they did boxing, and they are the most dominant HW champions in a long time.
There are exceptions to every rule. That Thai fighter isn't the best example really. Beat a shot Pintor who retired after that fight, then got stopped in 4 rounds by Fenech. Klitschkos are also awful examples. They were both very good amateur boxers, the fact that they did kickboxing before that doesn't mean much, most of their training was in boxing before turning pro.
So basically your point is that kickboxers with training can be successful in boxing. Oh, then we are in agreement. As far as Pintor being shot, I'm not sure the relevancy when we are talking about a guy who's 43 years old and one of the most shot fighters you could possibly put in the ring. At least that Pintor guy was still a world champion.
Only Vitali kickboxed afaik, not Wlad. Also, what you're saying makes no sense, as per usual. Silva is a career long MMA fighter. Wlad and Vitali are boxers. They did some amateur kickboxing, so what? They went on to be excellent amateur boxers, it took a LOT of training, since they were young. Silva is 34 or 36 without an amateur boxing background. Against any half decent pro, he's getting whupped. There is no comparison. Vitali having amateur kickboxing experience doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things, just like if Pacquiao did some Karate as a kid, nobody would be saying he is a Karate practitioner turned boxer.
You realize Vitali didn't turn pro until he was around 25 years old right? And it wasn't amateur, he was a world champion PRO kickboxer. And he spent a significant amount of time doing it. His first pro kickboxing fight was recorded at 18, an age where most guys are doing golden gloves, and he didn't finish until a year before turning pro. And while Silva doesn't have an amateur boxing background, he has been training boxing for over a decade, and has even gone in trained with top tier boxing coaches. Good enough to beat a super shot old man Jones for my money.
I know he's been training in boxing for over a decade, what I'm saying is surely you know how big a difference there is between MMA level boxing and pro boxing right? Who would you pick in a boxing match, Silva or the 38 year old Danny Green who is roughly the same size? The thing is, not only does Silva not have an amateur boxing background, he doesn't have a pro boxing background either :: And boxing is different from MMA. It's a more established, more precise sport, where experience counts for a lot, which is why Brock Lesnars simply don't exist in boxing. Roy is super shot, and because of that I would give Silva a good chance, but honestly my money would be on Roy simply outboxing him.
