90% of MMA fans huh? :: Hey listen. If you think Shields is a better wrestler than a former olympian and division 1 wrestler, keep on believing it. Fact of the matter is that Shields won because of his BJJ. If Shields didnt know BJJ, he would not be as successful as he is today. THe man combines his wrestling and BJJ better than anyone i have seen. I love this place but sometimes you guys frustrate me. I have tried to get BJJ guys to post in here, but they refuse. Opinions are one thing, but when you got people that have never done BJJ try to tell people that have been doing it for years what is and what isnt bjj, it can get kind of insulting.
Actually sometimes your opinions are just insane. I agree with you, Shields has the best mix of BJJ and wrestling in the sport, which is why he's an elite "grappler". But to say he beat Shields with BJJ more than wrestling is ridiculous. And to say Hendo is the better wrestler is almost as insane as you saying Scott Smith is a better striker than Paul Daley :: :: Who cares if Shields is an olympian and division 1 wrestler? We're talking about how good they're wrestling is here and now, in MMA. Is GSP an Olympian or division 1 wrestler? No he isn't, but he's the best wrestler in MMA, and a much better wrestler than Dan Henderson.
I said smith was a more effective striker than Daley. Stand by it too Again, we will agree to disagree on this and drop it. I am not going to be told what BJJ is from someone that has never even tried it. Its clear you dont know the difference between bjj and wrestling.
I know the difference exactly, it's pretty obvious. What you're trying to say is that BJJ has integrated more wrestling techniques, well guess what, that's still wrestling, and what Shields used to beat Dan was still mostly wrestling. You said Smith was a better striker. Which is insane. Daley's striking is on another level to Scotty boy.
I think Shields' ability to out-wrestle Henderson had a lot more to do with Hendo's shitty conditioning than being a better wrestler. Henderson gassed hard in that fight.
And that's not true. I have friend who is a Jiu-Jitsu blackbelt and he teaches Jiu-Jitsu. Not MMA fighting or submission grappling but just Jiu-Jitsu. There is not a single or double leg shot in ANYTHING he teaches. That is wrestling. Period. It's like me saying boxing in MMA involves take downs. Bullshit. There is boxing and there is wrestling in MMA. Sure you work on both at an MMA gym, but it doesn't mean Freddie Roach is NOW teaching take downs because boxing has evolved. That is absolute horseshit.
TRP i have been doing BJJ for about 5 years now. I have done jiu-jitsu probably longer than that. I have been doing Judo for 25 years. IF you think those arts dont train take downs, especially single legs (which is very popular in BJJ), you and your friends are out of their minds. Dont take my word for it. Google it. And when you google it, admit you were wrong and end this thread, in which you and MWS look foolish.
