picks like Marciano make no sense to me... if anything, he's underrated aorund here... I dont think Ive ever seen him picked to win against a true heavyweight in a mythical matchup

To me, Evander Holyfield takes the cake

    Nah.

People tend to pick Frazier over everyone except Ali and Foreman.

In fact, calling Ruiz overrated is a disgrace.

The guy is the most underrated anything in the history of sport.

Based solely on the logic of being boring and unimpressive, Ruiz loses to any fighter at any weight.

I wouldn't be shocked if this forum thought Sam Langford would starch Ruiz in one.

Yup, that's a start. You and joe have built homes in Mythical Matchups and contribute over 50% of the posts there it seems!! :giggle:

But there are others too that seem to think that the one dimensional mediocre chinned fella was some kinda killer.

    so, Ali sucks then?

after all, he was beaten by that guy

Frazier was superb... a guy with essentially one punch that everybody KNEW was coming, yet none of them (except Foreman) could do a thing to stop it... and I'd like someone to name a guy who was tougher, had more sheer desire and heart than Frazier... intangibles galore

hell, YOU picked Earnie Shavers to beat Frazier... thats just idiotic

Wow..I did some research because I didn't get the reference.

Biggest P.O.S article I've ever seen.

Most absurd absolute I've ever read in my life.

Something inside me has a huge doubt that say, for example Willie Pep fell on "tougher times" than a starving 16 year old kid trying to feed himself and his family in the Philippines.

Willie Pep has the black and white photos to prove it.

I'm talking about the historical perception of him in the world/boxing fandom at large.

I was going to say Marvin Hart, but he's not really rated!

    Floyd Patterson.

Beat me to it. I've literally banged my head off a wall listening to some of the absolute SHITE spewed in MM about Frazier on this site. Didn't stafford once say he loses to David Tua? :notallthere: I can't remember a single MM he has won...

Frazier is the most consistently UNDERrated fighter on this forum. Overrated my hairy arse.

    MTF :scratcher:

Keep reading more. He has some hilarious stuff.

95% of boxers come from some form of poverty and tough backgrounds and it will continue to be that way. The way Callis talks you'd figure professional fighters today come out of the Ivy League.

The days of Marciano being over-rated are long, looooong gone. Nobody under sixty has a kind word for Marciano, in my experience. He is easily a first-ballot choice for being under-rated (even for someone like me, who has him losing to the vast majority of great Heavies).

Anyway, I would probably pick Tyson. He was undeniably a beast of a Heavyweight, & I think he just shades a spot in my top-10 of all-time (if the focus is on who-beats-who, moreso than his incredibly underwhelming career), but his fans are simply rabid in their assessment of the man.

but that doesnt matter, we are all real fans here (well, except for a few idiots)

if you want to go THAT route, then it is Tyson by a light year or two
