I know alot of people like to say this movie is overrated, but I dont care its my opinion.... to me Tombstone is the best Western of the last 25 years. Mainly because of Kilmer's brilliant performance (which should have been Oscar nominated).

Anyone who says tombstone is overrated is an overrated Human being.

Another movie that is underrated is open range. Great movie

I think Cdogg is the main one who calls Tombstone overrated. Dunno why.... its a brilliant movie. Kilmer gave a Oscar worthy performance, Micheal Biehn was great, as was Kurt Russell.

Open Range? Is that with Robert Duval? I might have seen parts, or even the entire movie... but I dont remember it well. But I DO remember it being pretty good.

    Word....

Seriously, Val Kilmer should have been nominated. And Powers Booth was great and even the normally cardboard-like Michael Biehn was good.

I don't know a western over the last 25 that I find nearly as rewatchable.

And I'll nominate one other western that is seriously underrated. Anyone else like "Quigley Down Under"?

That scene where he mocks Ringo with the cup in front of the crowd, & then adds the head-bobble from side-to-side was absolutely killer. I'd have shot him right there, were I Ringo

Appaloosa is an intelligent storyline so I understand why you guys can't follow along.

Open Range is my 2nd favorite western. Tombstone is very good too, in my top 10.

Thanks. Now I'm putting the DVD in.

  15. Best westerns are:

    For a Few Dollars More
The Good The Bad and the Ugly
    A Fistfull of Dollars

    HANDS DOWN

    Then comes the rest....

    The Magnificent Seven
Once upon a time in the West
    High Plains Drifter

All this other shit pales in comparison

He was hilarious in that film. The scene where Stallone mindfucks him over the wire tap is awesome.

Me too. Val was great in Tombstone. His version of Doc is one of the coolest characters ever put on film.

Now that's a guy with great screen presence. I thoroughly enjoyed the character he played in Deadwood also.

I am a huge Eastwood fan, but I think Fistful of Dollars is great mainly because it took westerns to a new level, but compared to the ones that came after it it is a bit simplistic and pointless. Eastwood's performance is naturally great

  21. Nah..watch it again. The whole rivalry between the Rohos (Sp) and the Baxters, Ramone's evil character, Eastwood saying cooly, "prepare 4 coffins" on his way to confronting the Baxters, the sequence with the family torn by Ramone, Eastwood in hiding after being almost beat to death and the final confrontation with the Iron plate under his poncho. Classic stuff! Arguably the best of those three initial spaghetti westerns actually..

It is a cool action movie for sure and Eastwood's character is excellent as usual, but I don't really find a key point in this movie and trust me, I have watched it several times. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and For a Few Dollars More both have a premise in them in addition to being excellent western-action. I am not necessarily saying that movie must have a point but I usually enjoy such films more.

  23. fair enough. I hear you.

At exactly the 9-minute mark of this clip, John Malkovich utters a threat from a movie I have never seen, but I have watched that particular threat 20 times today, and I can't stop laughing. I've actually had tears roll down my cheeks today.

Mr. Ripley, Mitch Leary, Cyrus the Virus...the guy is a fucking AMAZING movie bad guy!!!! He's #1 for me.

interestingly enough this is probably the only case i can think of where a black guy is the main villain in a movie that doesnt have a predominantly black cast.

mr. t was mentioned earlier in this thread for rocky 3 and i guess he could qualify though thats stretching it. any others?
