Your take on X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)

Watched this for about the third time last night.

I enjoyed it, but I thought it was lacking something and can't put my finger on it. Maybe you guys can help me....
Do you think it needed more characters from the X-Men? Better quality actors to play each roles? Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is excelllent.
I thought the plot was abit too concerned with a love kind of storyline tho, what you think?

It was aight. But I'm not sure it was even better than X3. Maybe I need to see it again.

 

I thought it was better than X3. A good standalone film. Deadpool was lame though.

 

I dunno, it kinda fucked with X men history the way the Star Wars prequels fucked with Star Wars history. Not as bad as that..but still...

 

It was crap.

 

I went it with very low expectations, so I guess it was better then I expected it to be. I thought Liev Schrieber was very good as Sabretooth.

 

Problem is...

He was a very different Sabretooth to the mindless roaring animal depicted in the first Xmen film. Also in that film you were not under the impression that either Wolverine or Sabretooth remembered each other (Wolvie I understand with the adamantium bullet business, but what about Sabretooth?). I'm a stickler for consistency when it comes to films.

 

Oh, I agree about the continuity.

They just made this to keep the Wolverine fans happy, as a stand-alone film, apart from the regular franchise.

For that they decided to round out the Sabretooth character, and I think Schreiber did a fine job of doing just that.

I don't think it's a great movie or anything. Just better then I had expected, based on the bad buzz surrounding it.

I'm not exactly an X-MEN purist, so maybe that's why it didn't bother me much. I was actually happy they gave Sabretooth a bit more dimension then they had before, and they actually got a real actor to play him this time.

 

I guess I'd call it good, but more than good would DEFINITELY be stretching it.

 

I'm not a super-hero movie fan by any means, but I thought all three X-Men flicks were genuinely fun watching. That spin-off from two years ago was just cheap capitalising.

Ryan Reynolds in any serious role is just too sad for words.

I have. I consider them decent films and good entertainment. They might have some serious elements in them in relation to the genre, but I wouldn't consider them "serious" movies.

 

I understand what you're saying: Superhero movies are so unrealistic by nature that they can't be considered serious movies.

Nevertheless, as Comic book films go, the themes and characters were pretty mature and dark in the first two xmen films.

While REED LIKED "Wolverine", there WAS Something Missing...& Like U, REED Can't Quite Put his Finger on it...The Love Storyline is a NECESSARY EVIL when Comic Books Become MAINSTREAM Movies...9 Times Out of 10, Women COULDN'T Care Less about OR Appreciate the Powers of a Particular Superhero...

X2 was by far and away the best Comic book flick to date. Certainly the best MARVEL flick (some could argue Batman Begins or Dark Knight).

Every single Mutant was in his element in that film and it had superb writing and acting, great action. I have zero criticisms of that film except that maybe Cyclops was under-utilized.

Favourite scenes:

opening sequence with Nightcrawler's assault on the White House
Magneto escaping from the plastic prison. Genius share genius.
Wolverine going berserk and killing intruders left right and centre
Pyro unleashed
The drama at the end with Cerebro.

Classic classic film.

That one set the bar high indeed.

 

I thought all three were very well-done, including the second.

As you know, comic-strip films do not attract me in the least, but those were an exception.

 

I enjoyed Wolverine Origins. Liked how they showed WWI and WWII scenes with Wolverine and Sabretooth to show how old they are. Liev Scheiber stole the movie. His version of Sabretooth was really well done. Loved how he ran on all fours at one point.
