Presuming there weren't documented safety concerns, would you like to see a return to smaller 5, 6 or even 4 ounce gloves in boxing?
I should have read your post before voting.......By smaller gloves I was thinking 8 out gloves for everybody....and maybe 6oz for every fight under 122... 4 ounces gloves...hell no....
I think you're right. You may know already but apparently there were NO documented deaths in boxing before the introduction of padded gloves.
I would really like to see 4 or 6 ounce gloves for one reason and one reason only - less sustained beatings. Padded gloves are actually a bad thing in some ways, make you take more shots than you should.
Yeah, a shot to the head is a shot to the head. It might not turn the lights out, but your brain is still rattling around in your skull.
cdogg disagrees. he'd tell you that that's like saying that getting hit with a wiffle ball bat all day is more dangerous than getting hit once with an aluminum bat. so take this up with him.
Why not smaller? Heavyweights in the 30s used 5, 6 ounce gloves for instance. Just too much facial damage?
I'm afraid it might turn BOXING into a toughman contest with a bunch of guys swinging while punches like Ricardo Mayorga...
Imagine Lewis or Tyson hitting someone with 4 ounce gloves? :scared2: Im sure I read that when Tyson punched that fat Mexican who threatened him with a gun in the hotel, he hit him in the eye, blinded him and knocked out 3 of his teeth at the same time. ::::
Can't see why it would, tbh. I think if anything guys would become more economical with the shots they throw. Think Joe Louis more than Mayorga.
Good discussion. Steve Dave's point is valid, naturally. More KOs, shorter fights = fewer deaths. "However" Less padding = worse hand damage = less punches thrown Less padding = worse facial damage, hand damage = shorter careers
:: :: By the way yeah one obvious thing to consider with smaller gloves is more facial damage. More hand damage too, but less than you might think, because of how sturdy pro handwraps are.
Smaller gloves = more concussions = more fighters ultimately fucked up later in life. I don't buy the bigger gloves = more dangerous argument. Perhaps it increases the chances of ring deaths, but that's only one facet of 'dangerous'. Boxers spar with 16 oz gloves for a reason--they are safer. MMA guys don't trade punches nearly as often as boxers do for a reason--small gloves are more dangerous.
cdogg wont say that cdogg will say that it doesnt apply to your idiotic ramblings about Felix Trinidad and his alleged 5 pound gloves, you fucking moron
cdogg will say whatever stupid thing he needs to say to defend his position. and since he's not, "that" stupid, he'll realize later when he's wrong. but because he is, "that" big of an azz, he won't admit it.
