Please, Kawajiri completely made Thomson look like an amateur. Sliced through his guard like it was swiss cheese.
So when a fighter loses late in their career, that means their scrubby? How about when it's not late in their career? So, tell me, based on your rationale, if Aoki was knocked out cold by an average fighter like Sakurai, would he then be scrubby too?:goingmad: See? Terrible logic. :Lok:
OK... That officially ends this for me.. This is exactly what I mean about bolstering absolutely average fighters to try to make Aoki via Melendez look good. For those that don't know... Sato was 21-9 and at the start of a 1-6 run when he fought Melendez.. He couldn't have found the Top 10 with a GPS and a clairvoyant. Kato was worse. He was in the middle of losing 4 straight to absolute no names... Again, he was light years away from any top 10. Comparing either of those guys to a 19-1 Roger Huerta is just the kind of lunacy that make TLC the laughingstock of the forum. Good night. Damn.:dunno::dunno::dunno::dunno:
"At one point." Also...LOL at records. Gotta love good ole Trp. Worst reading comprehension on the forum. As I've stated, it is one thing to be a has been like Kato and Sato, but a whole different thing to be a never was like Griffin and Huerta.
:::::::: Holy shit..... Chuck Liddell was the best LH in the world 'AT ONE POINT". So Rich Franklin must be in the TOp 10 now because he knocked him out. :sream: Oh my god... The logic....
Would be a better win than say, Ricardo Romero, or some other scrub equivalent to Huerta. Enough of the games really, the absurdity of justifying a perennial top 10 fighter like Kawajiri is just too much. But I suppose non-knowledgable "fans" will always resort t the UFC hype machine to find out who the best guys in the world supposedly are, and that might just be Roger Huerta according to the UFC. :: Anyway, show me a guy who has as many career top 10 wins over guys in heir primes as melendez and may you'll have an argument.
I absolutely agree with you. But I take it further and say that Josh Thomson will never crack a top 5 in his class nor a top 10 overall. Which makes it safe to say it was a very impressive win for Kawa but Thompson hasnt done much to impress in terms of his resume even prior to that fight - nice guy, likable, good story, above average skillset, gym rat...... I have a few friends with similar qualities that fight professionally and dedicate their life to it. They will never be as good as Josh. Josh will never be as good as Kawa. Kawa will never be top 10 P4P. Slice it any way you want. Thats my opinion and it cant be swayed with Kato, Sato, Loco or Vato........ or any other fighter from yesteryear
Of course Kawajiri isn't a p4p fighter. But he is a top 10 LW and has been or the last 5 years almost.
Come on TLC, you know he isn't a top 10 LW today. I will give you 2005, but serious, Kawajiri has done nothing recently to deserve a top 10 LW ranking.
Maybe to guys like you and Trp who are blinded by the UFC hype machine(Roger Huerta....::) There isn't a ranking list out there that doesn't have Kawajiri at least 8 or 9
Amazingly Huerta is still young, he obviously just lost interesting in fighting somewhat. He's no scrub though TLC, he's beaten some decent fighters and managed a split decision loss against Maynard, allegedly the best wrestler in the division. What makes you think he is all hype?
Personally I go by what I see. And what I've seen from Kawajiri is a 1-2 record in his last 3 fights. He wasn't close to competitive against either Aoki or Melendez. And the one win was a ground and pound borefest against Josh Thompson who was fighting in Japan for the first time and has really done nothing over his career to distinguish himself. Not to mention Thompson is 32 and been fighting professionally for 10 years. And with Huerta, call it hype or whatever, but he impressed me when I watched him fight. Period. TLC just doesn't like it that DREAM Lightweights are a bunch of average fighters taking turns beating each other and unable to win in Strikeforce/UFC. It bothers him that more respect isn't given to guys Aoki can beat in Dream like Kawajiri, Ribeiro, Hansen, Aurelio, etc. When in reality, none of them could crack the Top 10 in the UFC's LW division. UFC HYPE MACHINE BABBBBBBY!!!!!!
How dare you diminish the legend of current Dream lightweights like that. By the way, my post was meant to be tongue-in-cheek but in re-reading it this morning it sounds a little more nasty. That wasn't the intent. I love watching the recent Dream match-ups and as I've said before, Aoki submissions are among the absolute best to watch. Whew. Feel better now.
Funny, you didn't say that before the fight. And a win is a win brother, whether you think it was BS or not. just sayin....
What do you mean I didn't say that before the fight? I hardly said anything about the fight. Maybe that Shaolin would win. But that's mainly because Beerbohm is not very good.
You said he would win easily. You never once said he was way passed it. I don't think Lyle is world class, but he's good enough to beat Shaolin.::
Yeah and I'm sure Ribeiro was Top 5 in the world 8 months earlier when Aoki beat him.. :giggle: Huerta was always a scrub but Ribeiro was world class. :giggle:
Prime Ribeiro is three times the fighter of that scrub Huerta. Literally did nothing in his career except for a fluky win over Guida in a fight he was going to lose on points.
Ribeiro is the same as Aoki, anyone with decent stand up and take down defense have their way with them. Ribeiro is world class when it comes to submissions. That style only worked for a while, the game passed him by as it is doing to Aoki. Unless they can start getting takedowns on D-1 wrestlers they will never be at the top again.
Tell that to Fancy Pants....:: Neck cranked in what, 2 minutes? Also, that Alvarez guy is a great wrestler I hear.
Means nothing. Alvarez is the same as Jones, D-1 talents that couldn't go to college because of having babies, and in Eddie's case....A LOT of babies. Not that D-1 talents are infallible either. They don't even come near international talents like Cormier, Lawal, Konrad, Askren, etc.
Melendez was neither a D-1 wrestler or an international talent and he was able to take Aoki down at will and keep him there. Average will do.
