I'm a Pac hater, but - Pac is greater P4P than Hopkins (and I'm a fan of Hopkins) - Hopkins rapes a 160 lb Pac, this fight wouldn't be competitive in the least - Similarly, Pac does whatever the hell he wants to the lead footed Tito at 147
People fail to realize at how consumed by vitriol Hopkins would be at the sight of Pac in the same ring as him. Hopkins, like Brusso vs Johnson, would seize like a rusty engine, as the oxidation of his perma-skin of hate clammed him up. Hopkins would try to throw low-blows and shoulders, he'd be like an old slow brown bear with bee's in his ears and up his trachea and up his anus.....he would stare at the judges and at Oscar and at the usually "reliable" Joe Cortez, and would beg for mercy, his ugly brutish face a knot of welts, but they would abandon him, as Pac flayed him to his miserable bones.
Too bad when people do P4P ALL-TIME list they base it on a combination of accomplishment and talent...slightly leaning toward accomplish over talent. Mayweather is very talented TOP 10 all time, but in the accomplishment department he falls waaayyyyy short of the TOP 10 of all times...
Can you imagine 15,000 Pinoys in full tribal regalia overwhelming the B-Hop contingent in a repeat of Bowe-Golota I?? That would be some insane shit. It would be like watching Piranha mob a slow dumb cow.
Not sure what's funnier, mentioning Pac and Duran in the same breath (as if they should be grouped together) or saying Pac is better than Floyd.
As it stands today, I agree to an extent (his accomplishments are underrated though...undefeated in over 40 fights with titles in 5 divisions)...but if he beats Pac, his accomplishments will match his talent.
People talk about Duran. The only great fighter Duran ever beat was Leonard. And that was 1 out of 3 times. Hearns, Hagler, Benitez all beat him. If Mayweather beats Pac, that achievement equals Duran beating Leonard. People will disagree with this saying that leonard was bigger and better, but I would counter that "better" is subjective and also things even out because it can be argued that Leonard was still a little green at that time whereas Pac has a wealth of experience and achievement and still in his prime. Mayweather's wins over the likes of Castillo, Hatton, De La Hoya, Mosley, Corrales...equal Duran's wins over Barkley, De Jesus, Cuevas and Palamino. Add to this that Duran was KTFO in just 2 rounds before an lost to the likes of Kirkland Lang and Money May is undefeated and there would be no objective way of saying that Duran is greater, if May beats Pacquaio. The One who brings Destruction has Spoken!!
Mayweather, Whitaker, Pacquiao to beat him. Armstrong, Chavez, De La Hoya, Mosley, Williams all give him fits.
If Floyd and Pac fight in say the next 12 months, the winner of the fight will be like, really, really great.
Speaking of that, I was watching Pacquiao-Mosley at the pub the other week with my friend, & with Duran in mind, I asked him what or who he thought Pacquiao's hairstyle reminded him of. His response? "Emo?" Under-whelming :: Duran = "No Emo!"
Exactly. Put Pacquiao in the 70s and Duran now...and it's not even a discussion, everyone would be saying that Pac was greater.
I am sure someone will come along to point out that Pacquiao would not, in all likelihood, fare anywhere near as well against the likes of Leonard or Hagler (or do any better than Duran did in disasters against Benitez & Hearns), & they'd be right in my view, but fair's fair --- Duran wasn't a world-class fighter as low as Bantamweight. Pacquiao was.
Pac would have beaten Benitez IMO. He would have lost to Hearns, I agree, but he'd surely do better than Duran did in that fight! :giggle: But yes, we're talking P4P in this discussion. Duran started out at 135 and so he could handle 160 better than Pac could. But When you consider that Pac was a Flyweight originally...his 140lbs or 147lbs would be Duran's 160lbs and above...and Duran was no wear near as effective at those weights as pac has proven to be at the welter divisions.
You guys are ridiculous. Head to head, Duran punishes Pacquiao at 135 (in the modern day, that fight probably actually takes place at 126). Pacquiao loses 10/10 to every single great fighter Duran faced, he loses widely to DeJesus too. Ray Lampkin would give him a hell of a fight. Duran would beat JMM clearly. Duran was not afraid of needles. Duran did not cherrypick opponents or bitch out at the negotiating table. Imagine what kind of demands Pac would've made to fight guys like Hagler and Hearns? The primary difference between Pac and Duran is that Duran is a complete fighter. He seamlessly blended offense and defense into an overall package of "savage brilliance." Pac hops on the gear, adds a right hand to his natural speed and straight left, beats a few guys on the decline, and you guys fall over in wonder. I'm not saying he's not supremely talented or a great fighter, but he is the most overrated fighter since Trinidad. As KalizMostWanted on Maxboxing once said, if they ever fight, Floyd Jr will make Manny Pac look like Bobby Pac.
