Stylewise you have to like Foreman. However a prime Iron Mike was bigger than Frazier and not as one dimensional in his attack. Even if both men somehow avoided getting seriously hurt in the first 3 rounds we'd probably be able to tell at that point who was going to take over.
I've said this before but Frazier and Tyson really don't fight especially similarly. The parallels are superficial. Tyson launched attacks from the outside and generally ended up in a clinch. Frazier usually worked his was in IN ORDER to work, and as a result spent far more time in the intermediary range between safety outside and where he wanted to be. Something Foreman compounded by pushing him back there when he would try and bob his way in without throwing. Tyson would be outside more, would come in much quicker and would be throwing big shots when he did - then clinch. I just think its a completely, completely different fight.
Yes and no. I don't think they fight especially similar either but the Foreman fight certainly can be brought into the mix. The main reason is that neither Smokin' Joe or Tyson can fight going backwards. When you have an ox like George with his strength and power it makes a difficult fight stylewise for attacking fighters. They both wouldn't approach Big George the same way, but would have similar difficulties imo.
Styles or no styles, mentally weak or not, I think Tyson fucks Foreman up. Foreman is plenty hittable, and not good enough of an outside fighter to control Tyson. Tyson bobs and weaves his way in, avoids Foreman's telegraphed punches, launches his attacks, ties up and just gives him a beating. I also don't think Tyson and Frazier particularly fight alike. Tyson was a lot faster and more skilled and importantly, more unpredictable.
Yeah Whiskey, Tyson would need to put a dent in Foreman early. If he doesn't within the first two rounds I think what you're talking about starts to come into play - he starts getting pushed back and crowded as George gets more aggressive and gets stopped in 6 or 7. But Foreman has all manner of challenges that Frazier didn't present, its nowhere near as easy.
Foreman brutally. I don't think the style issue is at all insignificant. Tyson is coming at Foreman, & his speed will be negated by Foreman's range & height on the way through. You just cannot come at the man & win, as I see it. Dempsey, Marciano, Tyson, Frazier...all would fall. I would give them varying chances of an upset, but none would be favoured. I know this is a cliche with Tyson, but I really do see psychology playing a huge part in this particular fight. Foreman would crush Tyson at the staredown & duplicate the effort once the bell sounded.
