Last time page looked this good was against Silva. Not as good as the silva fight, but similar. He looked much better in this fight than he did against Jardine, Evans and Machida.
I agree, I feel it's either very close or boxing take more stamina. Jens Pulver was gassed in the last 2 rounds of his 4 rounder on FNF and he fought 5 rounds no problem in MMA
Good point. You also have elite fighters like Aldo gassing in pure standup fights. GF is alright, but it's hard to argue with him about anything boxing/MMA related these days, as he's such a hardcore MMA groupie. Thinking that Nelson is in better shape than Arreola kind of days it all. Arreola doesn't have good stamina, but he can actually fight for 12 rounds. Can you imagine Nelson boxing for 12 rounds? ::
WTF was up with Hamill's wrestling? It used to look much better, isn't he like a 4 time olympic gold medalist or something? :: His takedowns looked feeble and telegraphed. He didn't take Rampage down ONCE, that's crazy. Anyway Rampage looked good, I'm glad he won. Dunno wtf all the booing was about. Bunch of chodes.
On the season of TUF he was on, I'm sure they said something like that, like he was a 3 or 4 time olympic medalist. It was Tito Ortiz, as he was salivating over his new protegé, giving it the cheesy nice guy act for championing the retard ::
He won a couple medals in the Deaflympics. And I'm not making that up. Hamill loses heart very quickly when things don't go his way immediately. It happened in the Franklin and Jones fights and again last night. That's not to say he quits or gives up, but he just looks defeated. And in TUF I though Hamill was a bit of an elitist douche bag. He acted high and mighty because of his wrestling background. And in training he was always going hard and throwing guys around like an asshole. Then in boxing sparring he gets clipped good on the temple and acts like the world's biggest deaf pussy. I was really hoping Rampage would knock him the fuck out last night. The dude had the audacity to say Rampage wasn't on HIS level. His level? He got stopped by Rich Franklin.
Yep.. This should never have been sold as a pay per view. I am really getting sick of worthless takedowns winning fights. There is no way in the world that Torres deserved to lose a decision to Johnson. Johnson's only success was in getting the fight to the ground. Once on the ground, it was Torres that did ALL the damage and continually threatened with subs. The same is true in the Ricky Story-Thiago Alves fight. How a guy gets credit for keeping his opponent pinned against the cage is a mystery to me. In my opinion, the third round should have over shadowed the entire rest of the fight and Alves should have won. Scoring in MMA is pathetic.
Oh shit, the Deaflympics, well that explains things I guess :: I agree on both counts by the way. Hamill is decent, but didn come across as a total cock on TUF, very elitist, then goes to hospital for taking a kick to the head by Grove :: Yep, like TLC said, this LNP era is getting a bit much now. Story basically pinned him against the cage and that's it. And I kind of think he's right too, in that as long as the scoring rewards that, how the fuck are things going to change in MMA? Unless there's some magic style of fighting no one has discovered yet that's not striking or BJJ :kidcool: It's not surprising that Alves thought he won, he probably completely forgot about rounds 1 and 2, as it's not like anything happened or he took a beating. Being pinned against the cage probably didn't feel like he was losing.
Yeah, don't get me wrong, I knew Story was going to get the nod because of how MMA is scored. The method of scoring just needs to change. Take downs as a stand alone piece of scoring should not be given as much credit as they currently get. If you are going to give huge credit to take downs then the flip side has to be giving equal credit to stuffing take downs. In essence, Rampage deserved 10-8 rounds by that rationale for all the stuffed take down attempts in his fight.
How can you edit your post without it showing an edit date/time? I almost screwed up because I used everyone's initial picks unless their post shows an editing. Your's didn't show where it was edited so I almost used your original picks which would have cost you points.
As POORLY as REED Did for this Card, he's Still Pretty PROUD about Picking Mir OVER Jabba the Hut..."Like I Said Before", You Bitches have the REMAINDER of 2011 to Kick REED while he's Down...By Then, he'll B Up to Speed on MMA & DOMINATE this Prediction Contest just like he does on the Boxing Side... Speaking of Which, REED PURPOSELY Sacrificed his Boxing Lead Last Week, Because he COULDN'T Bring Himself to LITERALLY PREDICT a KO Loss for Roy Jones...That's Pure, Unadulterated FANDOM Right There... REED:cheer:
You missed the last contest. If you didnt, you would be in good shape right now. Im impressed with your picks.
Yeah, MAJOR Brainfart on REED's Behalf...There's NOfuckingCHANCE of Making Up for an ENTIRE WEEK of NO Predictions... REED:goingmad:
I heard Dana White saying half of Roy Jones' purse is going to the IRS. I didn't know Jones was in a financial bind. He's gonna end up brain damaged if this keeps up.
Watched the fights with a few friends at our local watering hole. I will agree 100% with the consensus that this had zero business as a PPV. The fact that Matt Hamil was in the main event tells everything. I must say I am curious to see what the numbers are for it. Nice picks to REED and TLC with Mir over Nelson. I must admit, I consistently underrate Frank Mir. This guy has the tools to be great, I just don't know if he has the desire to be great anymore. I would love to see him get a shot at Cain. No reason why he shouldn't. I think Cain would win, but Mir is in the top 3-5 of the division. By the way, who is Cain fighting next? Carwin and JDS are fighting. While that gets settled, give Mir a shot. Rampage has a decent win streak going on, with a win over Machida. He needs another title shot before he loses all interest in fighting. I must admit, I'm laughing at all the posts saying wrestlers have an unfair advantage and so on. MMA always changes, one could say right now it is the "wrestlers era". I see it changing torwards a more complete athlete. Brock is the "better wrestler" than Cain, but Cain is a great athlete and has completed himself more as a MMA fighter. Ryan Bader is the "better wrestler" compared to Jon Jones and we saw how much that helped him. Thiago Alves is not a complete fighter. Its not something we just found out. If you don't have great takedown defense in today's MMA you will not be elite. But if you can't fight on your feet when your opponent stuff's your TD attempts your fucked too. Guy like Cain, Jones, and GSP have proven this. One dimensional fighters are a thing of the past. Rick Story was able to expose a weak point in Alves' game, that same weak point won't be there when he faces Kos, Fitch, Penn, and of course GSP. The rules don't need to change, the UFC doesn't need a ring, fighters need to train and evolve.
Nice, Jones will push the pace and take chances. It will be a fun fight to watch. Do you know anything about Mir? who is up next for him and what about Cain?
