Yeah, that's what I kind of figured. Mir should get the loser of Shane/JDS, with the winner of that getting the next shot. Just my thoughts. Cain really hasn't fought many of the top HW's, very similar to Jones and the top LHW's. Line em up.:dancingBaby:

What exactly is hurting on him? Anything in particular or just basic fighting stuff?

He tore his rotator cuff against lesnar. He had surgery and is out for 6-8 months.

The Torres decision was everything that is wrong with MMA judging. Johnson did fucking nothing but defend subs and get beat up by Torres from the bottom. That was fucking garbage.

yeah, I would agree that takedowns are given way to much credit in judging. I think there needs to be some education with judges about it. I still don't think rule changes or ring sizes need to be changed. I also think ref's need to pull the trigger on standups quicker if the guy on top is doing fuck with the position. And throwing one or two punches every 30 seconds isn't cutting it.

I hated to see Torres lose when he put on a clinic from the bottom. His guard reminds me of Nick Diaz. Always working for the sub.

So in your own words, you don't want any rule changes but think there should be frequent artificial standups?

Ref standups, 90% are absolutely awful and something I'm not in favour of at all. Complete failure of simulation martial arts. Plus, God knows the sport could lose some objectivity.

Increasing the dimensions of the cage would be far more effective(since I don't see the UFC getting a ring, which would be much better) There is far too little space for the bigger guys to move. It completely screws over strikers because they can't negotiate any type of range before being bulled into the fence.

The fence is a foreign object, and should be treated like such. In today's UFC, people use the damn fence as a method of victory. It's an abomination. Even worse, there is a gap between the fence and the mat, and often the guy with his back to it has his feet caught in the gap while being taken down.

As for same day weigh ins, it's utterly nonsensical that they don't utilize them. Talking about a sport with heavy grappling involved, which weight maximizes advantage twofold at least, and there's no same day weigh ins. They are utilized in high school wrestling, NCAA wrestling, the Olympics...pretty much anything credible uses same day weigh ins. They SHOULD use it for boxing as well, but with boxing, it doesn't really matter as much.

I would definitely agree with same day weigh ins. I wasn't really thinking of that as a rule change. The UFC makes such a huge production of the weigh in I really can't see it happening, but I agree with it. Where you complain about the cage being too close, I would worry that with it bigger you would have too many guys actually running. I personally don't like the ring with MMA. I hated it in Pride when they would get under the ropes and the ref would bring them back to the middle and have them reset. I didn't say I was in favor of "frequent" stand ups. I am in favor if the position has stalled, stand it up. If the guy on bottom is not able to sweep, or get a sub, and the guy on top is just contolling, the position is stalled. These wrestlers know what stalling is, and are accustomed to giving up points for it. I would be open to an idea similar to the yellow card in Pride.

The bottom guy is stalling most of the time in those situations where they are stalled. As for the guy not able to sweep....exactly that, if he's UNABLE to do anything off his back, then he shouldn't be rewarded for his own ineptitude.

It'd be like rewarding someone who's inept while vertical to take position on the ground in his guard.

As for the production aspect, yes, neither thing will probably happen, but tons of low quality fights will.

And as for the cage, certainly the ring is bad for MMA, but a bigger cage is not. I watch a lot of MMA, and from what I see it works a lot better. I'm not saying make the cage obnoxious, but Bellator has great dimensions for their cage. UFC's are just retarded. Check the fight video of Alves and Story, from the center of the cage, Alves takes one back step and is immediately in position for Story to drive him in the fence.

All I know is Torres was fun to watch off his back. The sweeps, the sub attempts; and the constant elbows SHOULD have been the rule to winning fights when the other fighter does nothing but take his opponent down.

You want to change things, change the way fights like this are scored. If a few more Johnson's and Story's lose, the game will change.

I had no problem with the Story decision, that guy is a fucking warrior. The dude has a crazy chin. He wasn't stalling nearly as much as Johnson did in the Torres fight.

In my opinion, Story stalled almost as much only his stalling was against the cage in a clinch as opposed to on the ground.

The bottom line is that Torres and Alves did more overall damage to me.

But I do admit the Story decision didn't piss me off like the Torres decision did.

Story clearly won the first two rounds IMO. Did more damage and basically man handled Alves. What was most surprising to me in that fight was that Thiago was the smaller man in there. Story is fucking huge at WW.

I agree. Alves is ALWAYS the bigger guy it seems, but Story dwarfed him. But damn, how did he take all those flush shots in the 3rd? The kids got an amazing chin.

It's funny too because he was badly hurt by an uppercut from Brian Foster a few fights back. But against Alves, I don't know that he ever took a backward step.

I rewatched the fight, TLC, I see what you are saying about Alves roughly taking a step back and Story had him clinched against the cage. I wouldn't be against the Bellator cage.

I do disagree with you about the bottom guy usually being the "staller". I see it usually as the wrestler doing the lay and pray control from top. I won't say it could never be the guy on bottom, but I think "stalling" overwhelmingly comes from the guy on top.

I think Trplsec is on the money about the judging. That is what needs to change more so than rules. When a guy like Torres dominates from the bottom, but a judge gives the round to Johnson because he got one takedown in the round, it makes no sense.

Exactly. I re-watched the fight as well. And at no point was Torres "controlled" on the ground. Torres gave an absolute clinic on how you SHOULD be able to win fights off your back short of getting a submission.

This seems kind of similar to King Mo vs. Mousasi. GM couldn't stop a take down to save his life but he was absolutely doing more damage from the bottom, at least for the first few rounds.

Even with that said. I love Torres, but he can't just blow a position like that. If you get the full mount like he had, you've got to muster up something. I wish more guys would go for top side triangles. The hell with worrying about losing position, that is very effective, and most people blow it anyway so just go with it.
