I don't know about it being ONLY for show. It takes stamina to throw them as fast and fluid as he does. You don't just have that---it takes training. Don't get me wrong; he's definitely a showoff, but it also gets those fast-twitch muscle fibres going.

Yeah, I actually like the answer fightbeats settled on - it's not padwork like regular pad work, it's an exercise in sharpness and coordination like hitting a speed bag or a ump rope routine. Makes sense to me.

I'm not saying mittwork isn't "hard" per se, but let's be clear what the point of this thread attempts to address/prove. It's a not so thinly veiled attempt at propping up Floyd. His mittwork isn't "innovative." As said, i've seen tons of guys look like world beaters in the gym then get their asses whupped in the ring. It's a training tool, period. Not an indicator of how the guy will do in the ring.

Speaking of which...a guy once told me he'd heard that Trinidad couldn't hit the speed bag. Said he was absolute shit. Said he didn't believe it until he was in camp with Trinidad and witnessed it himself.

With that said, it's no more of an indicator or "innovation" as the Scouting Combine is for football players. The draft is littered with guys who excelled in drills yet couldn't find their way onto the playing field.

The thread didn't attempt to address or prove anything and it wasn't a thinly veiled anything. In fact my initial opinion and point was that it was an exercise in showboating for the cameras, but mainly the thread was just a request for opinions/discussion. :dunno:

Ah grasshoppa....but you played right into the hands of the FloydIdiots starving for any reason to praise their hero in recess.

Imagine if a thread started asking the question, "is Manny P4P the greatest singing boxer of all time?" Or "Based on Shane's comments, is Manny the hardest 6 inch puncher of all-time?"

The faces of PacMoron's near and far would gleam with glee then converge on the thread like a pride of lions chowing on an elk....or at least like the lion who chowed down on the guys shoulder in the other thread.

This post speaks more to YOUR BIAS than it does to the bias of Floyd or Pac fans.

An intelligent guy like you simply can't answer a simple question honestly because of your hatred for Floyd or pac fans.

    Pathetic..

It's not hate it's true. Floyd isn't the fighter he is because of mittwork. That's simply the truth.

The fact is you're drawn in because it's flashy. Thus the disagreement.

The spirit of the question is whether the mitt work is useful or if it's just for show?

My response is that "it's useful". Is yours that it's JUST for show?

    Simple question, simple answer.

and I voted with the majority of the board.

BTW...the thread is about Floyd and his mittwork.

Floyd is mentioned in order to IDENTIFY the Mittwork. Don't harp on Floyd....instead consider the exercise itself.

I think it's a genuine training innovation. Keeps a dude sharp...whether it's floyd or not.

Innovation means something new...not previously done. Are you suggesting Floyd and company invented mitt work?

By definition the answer to the question is NO.

Wait...let me guess....abiding by the definition of the word equates more hate on Floyd. Damn that Webster's dictionary!

You don't have to invent a training medium to innovate in it.

And besides it seems quite a few of us agree it isn't padwork in the traditional sense but a separate exercise in timing/coordination. Which would certainly be an innovation whether its useful or not.

The poll is itself worded wrong, this is true.

It's not an innovation per se from what I understand. But the spirit of the poll is whether it is useful or if it's just Floyd showing off.

    Hut stay out of this...

Sly and I haven't bickered over Mayweather in quite sometime. It's an unfair fight and I'm carrying him as always, but he tries. It typically plays out like Larry Holmes vs Tex Cobb...Sly manages to finish on his feet because I allow him to.

Has anyone worked pads in the way the Mayweather's do? did they copy that style of padwork off someone?

As far as Im aware the answer to that is no hence it's an innovation, pure and simple.

    "HOWEVER"

To place Floyd's name at the front of the sentence suggests it's attributed to HIM....

Thus my stating you've thrown blood into a pool of starving FloydIdiot sharks looking for any reason to speak kind words about the guy.

No. No one in the history of boxing has done what Floyd and Roger do on the mitts.

    There you have it.

And I should know...I'm at least 50 years older than the sport of boxing. :eek:ld:

'Mayweather'. It seems to have been a collaborative development among degenerates.

I dunno, maybe Im wrong, but they seem to have come up with it. Look, I just want one thread I post not to have been worded wrong OK! It's an innovation damn it!

Based on how he's leaning back I'd say Muhammad Ali stole the "Rope a dope" from him.

    THIS...

There MIGHT B Something Useful to the Routine Itself, but when it Gets to the Point that Floyd is LOOKING INTO The Camera, that's ALL for Show...

REED's Seen Some Pretty ELABORATE Mitt Routines...MORE Elaborate than what the Mayweather's Do, in Fact...Pretty COOL to Watch, Actually...
