Let's say it takes place in 1997, when Duran was still active and in his prime. Duran was a quitter who wasn't very good, so in spite of Lennox giving up some weight, I don't think he'd win this.
Duran would welcome the chance to eat his way to 235lbs, though he may regret that when the first and last Lewis right hand lands.
Duran would have won, I mean if the ring had been the correct one, if he had trained, I mean really trained, if the ref had not been on Lewis' side, if his stomach hadn't cramp and if Lewis hadn't extended his arms that often and if the fight would have mattered enough, Duran would have won. DURAN! DURAN! DURAN!
Duran was robbed against a juiced up Pazienza in their first fight, and then against a coked-up Camacho (again, in their first fight). Assuming that same fighter shows up and Lewis isn't on anything performance-enhancing, I think the additional weight serves Duran well as opposed to having to dry out to below 200 lb., and thus wins any way he pleases
Stop making excuses for a fighter who in his prime and at his best weight! You Duran lovers just keep making excuse after excuse. What next, are you going to deny that Michael Spinks is a total bum for getting flattened in a single round by Mike Tyson?
Say Lewis was a natural lightweight, Duran a natural heavy... LL still sparks him out in a couple of rounds. Duran can't deal with the Manny Steward right hand. Just generally inferior in every way.
Ugo & Steve just can't understand the fire in the heart of The Duran (peace be upon him), nuzzled up in their snowy, hippy communist villages with their free healthcare and 20 child class rooms. Leave it to sexually ambiguous chess players with affected lip curling mannerisms from the fictional streets of the mid atlantic to tinkle all the cultural wind chimes.
Well one thing I know for sure is that despite the size difference, Lewis would fight on the backfoot like a scared bitch, behind his stupid pawing jab. Duran just chases him down, bullies him into the ropes, lands bodyshots and wins an easy decision. Too fierce for scared pussy Lewis.
Nah mex, Lewis would smash him Golota-style. Even Lewis wouldn't be backfooting against a guy half his size unless it's Bruce Lee!
I dunno how Bruce Lee became a legendary fighter, given that he never won a single tournament or ever defeated anyone in hand-to-hand combat that anyone has ever heard of (outside of movies, of course). The guy was an actor. AN ACTOR. Duran would've debunked that legend in about 30 seconds.
Lennox Lewis vs. Duran? The jackass that started this thread must have been smoking something. Something strong and illegal, that is.
Duran would've had his kneecap smashed off from a single Bruce Lee sidekick before Duran could even shoot a jab!
I don't need to tell you anything. You already saw with your own eyes just how useless boxers are outside of their boxing environment. Remember what happened to James Toney in the UFC? Remember what happened to Vince Phillips in kickboxing? You think Duran would have any hope of beating somebody with a wrestling or grappling or kickboxing background? Bruce Lee was on a different level of skill to this boxing clown. Boxers can't do anything other than punch and they need room to punch. Close the distance, take their legs and they're done. Bruce Lee trained with Gene LeBell aka Judo Gene. Guys like Duran would be fodder.
1. Duran was highly regarded as a streetfighter 2. I assumed we were talking about boxing rules to begin with, since this is you know, a boxing forum 3. Name a single instance where Bruce Lee ever beat anyone up 4. You're an idiot
Don't be dissin' hno: Just stating an opinion. Duran is one dimensional. Bruce Lee trained with the best fighters in the world including Gene LeBell, Chuck Norris and Joe Lewis. Bruce was a master in all forms of fighting styles. He could take Duran's eye out or tear out his throat. Or maybe just smash Duran's knee and then put a finger down Duran's eye socket! Bruce Lee was a bad man!!!
Yeah too bad Duran never spent ten years training in the misty mountains learning how to gouge somebodies eye out, eh? And BTW the street isnt MMA. Not even close. Both guys are usually already in range, have already lost their tempers and are already set on striking each other rashly. YOu also have surprise attacks and all manner of uncertainty. It's a stupid debate on who would win in that chaotic environment but Duran grew up dealing with that chaos AT LEAST as much as Lee did, probably way more, and he has every tool you'd need to end things quickly in that setting. He kicked the shit out of Chuck Zito a few years when he challenged him in a bar and Chuck Zito is cross trained all sorts of esoteric Eastern shit and has 6 different black belts. A 55 year old, obese, post car crash Duran dropped him like a sack of shit. Duran is one the best short range strikers that size there's ever been & Lee's completely unproven. And this 'Lee would just kick his knee out' stuff is especially fucking dumb - how often do you see that in Muay Thai or MMA? You'd be as well saying 'Lee would just do a double spinning leg tornado off a cherry blossom tree and KO Duran with the sacred wind'.:: In an MMA match Lee would probably win via grappling. In a boxing match Duran would definitely win. In a bar anything could happen but without knowing the logistics I'd take a guess in the dark that Duran would knock him clean out.
Stay out of this, Hut. There is a great discussion going on here between an angry teen and a genuine madman, I want to see where it heads:shadow:
I'd like to point out that even a bloated, pig-eating, Duran in a clown ring would be the best fighter Lennox Lewis has ever faced.
