Shane Carwin expects to weigh-in at about 252 lbs tomorrow for his Saturday night bout with Junior Dos Santos. This is compared to his cutting down to hit the 265 pound limit last July for his fight with Brock Lesnar.

The weight loss begs the question, did Carwin trim down to increase his stamina or did his brush with a steroid conspiracy force a change in his 'diet'.

    What do you think???

I'd wager the latter to be honest. Very strange that someone would go from cutting to make 265lbs to coming in at 252lbs.

    It just looks so suspicious.

That being said. Now I like JDS to easily win this fight. Carwin went from being a monster that honestly rivaled Lesnar in terms of size to being just a slightly bigger than average HW.

    He's done.

Carwin was fat and out of shape for Lesnar. Him losing a few extra pounds could only help. If JDS is smart, he takes Carwin down and GNP's the shit out of him. I wouldnt trade.

When has JDS ever been good at taking people down? Not being a smart ass but I can't ever remember him showing this skill.

Carwin stopped Lesnar's shots in the first round. There is no way JDS takes him down early.

Do you really think it was just a good weight loss program and training? You don't think 'other' things contributed?

And, I don't know man.. Carwin doesn't look fat or out of shape here.

I know we're disagreeing a lot today, but come on man. That dude is ripped silly.

Pretty much all of his pre-UFC fights. He was more of a grappler. I do think JDS can get him down, but it'll be if and when Carwin gasses out.

Well we know he was out of shape. But in that pic he was the minimum 265. At the time of the fight, he was much bigger.

Good info. I never saw any of his pre UFC stuff other than his second fight with Ferreira. JDS got handled like a rag doll in that fight and tried to make it a stand up fight but couldn't.

I mean, I know Junior's background is obviously BJJ under Nog, but I think he's in over his head in the wrestling department with Carwin.

But I do think Junior has above average TD defense so it should be interesting.

I don't. I think he gassed because it's almost impossible for a guy that size to expend the type of energy he did in the first round and then recover.

By the way, Lesnar cut down to 265 and weighed more at the time of the fight as well. Was he fat and out of shape too?

Scratch your head all you want, but show me one clip of him showing great take downs?

    I'll wait.

    Yep............................

Most HWs are out of shape to be honest. They are big guys.

With the exception of freak genetic anomaly Cain Velasquez, who is immune to being tired.

I'd hardly call that being handled like a ragdoll. He got taken down by a single leg, reversed position and got caught by an armbar.

And oddly, he is the least ripped or muscular of the top guys.

Again, fueling the muscle mass that Lesnar and Carwin carry around is impossible at the pace that Carwin ripped off in the the first round. There was no way he was going to recover.

    I don't think it's odd.

Cardiovascular fitness isn't really correlated to physique and muscle mass.

Well i was scratching my head because you saw how out of shape he was for Lesnar and how easily gets taken down when he is tried. So i scratched my head because of that.

As for him taking people down, he has taken people down when fighting in Brazil. I have DVDs somewhere. If i find them, i will upload. Should be fun to see those.

Always looking to improve my knowledge...

This is decent grappling by JDS in his first MMA fight. Slam city here:

And a good trip followed by good BJJ work in his second fight.

Thanks TLC.. Didn't know this stuff was out there.

Doesn't really change my opinion about his takedown ability but it was fun to see something other than the slugging JDS.

No.... Wait... Don't get me wrong. If Carwin gasses like he did against Lesnar, then even I could take him down... But you said early. I just don't think THAT will happen.

Shit probably. I think JDS will stand with him, but i wouldnt. He should try to gas him out. Carwin has yet to prove he is more than a 1 round fighter.

    Take him down?

Shane Carwin was probably the most gassed I've ever seen a fighter before. It was between him and Mark Coleman in the Maurice Smith fight.

You could've pushed Shane Carwin over.

Man, like I said in the prediction post, the HW's stepping in the cage nowadays is exciting. Can't wait for this one. I hope they trade from the opening bell until someone falls.

There is a huge talent gap between the guys JDS fought in those videos posted and Shane Carwin. Just because he's taking down some nobodies, doesn't mean he can do it to Carwin. I am sure he can't, he's at a huge wrestling disadvantage against Carwin.

You may be right, but he should try. The sheer attempt will tire Carwin out even more. I just dont think JDS should risk getting a medical suspension where he cant even train for like 100 days. From this fight, he should fight Cain in October.
