#1 Not Champ. I said he was ranked #1 in 06-07. I just want you to admit the truth of the matter, Margarito was not irrelevant.
Cotto-Margarito 2008. Cotto loses so Pac fights Cotto. Margarito-Shane 2009. Margarito loses so Pac fights Margarito. Shane-Floyd 2010. Shane loses so Pac fights Shane. Even Stevie Wonder sees whats happening.
Comparing resumes is a slippery slope. Common opponents means jack shit as history has proved to us over and over again. Lewis struggles with Bruno, Tyson wipes out Bruno, Lewis wipes out Tyson. Leonard-Duran-Hearns Hagler-Duran-Hearns Ali-Norton/Frazier-Foreman Jack shit. now you said..."Floyd hasn't fought manny". Now let's look at the resumes: I can concede that on paper Manny's resume looks better in terms o fthe amnount of weight jumping he's done...however he's lost a few times and drawn a couple times. Floyd is undefeated and untied in over 40 fights and 5 divisions and multiple belts. UNDEFEATED by itself is meaningless (5-0 means nothing for example) but in the context of those achievements it means a great deal. Still Manny's big wins are against guys who Floyd already beat...and Cotto was a guy already destroyed by Margarito who was destroyed by Shane.
Irrelevant compared with who was the CHAMP, motherfucker. Would you rather fight the #1 contender or the Champ? ::
Mayweather was after titles and championship when it suit him..when guys like Bumdomir were champions....when guys like Cotto, Margarito, Pacquiao are champs...Mayweather is all about the MONEY...those guy are champs? SO what titles don't feed my kids...
The fight with Cotto would have been best in 2008, after Mayweather beat Hatton and Cotto beat Mosley. Floyd instead negotiated a bout with DLH and "retired". I don't think either side cared much for the fight, we didn't hear any talk of serious negotiations. While both sides deserve blame for that bout not happening, Cotto gets much more of a pass for giving us good matchups in the next two years while Floyd did fuck all.
So Shannon Briggs was indeed THE Champ. Guess it just depends on what you're arguing about on a given day. Just admit it brotha, Margarito was not irrelevant. He was ranked at the top of the division for a long time.
Forrest shut out Baldomir when they actually fought so what ever you're trying to do here ain't working.
Floyd, for me, gets a vote in that he most likely isn't pedding, he stays in shape and isn't trying to trick people with some political nonsense. What counts against Floyd is his lack of a clear, well-defined role in boxing. Does the guy just come out once a year for some pocket-change, then disappear again? There is a lot to dislike about Floyds behaviour, out of the ring, but what about Pac in the ring? Giving Margacheato a career best pay-day??? The nonsense with 145lbs?? It has now moved around to the stage where I might even want Floyd to win if they did fight. Floyd humiliated Shane with the WADA nonsense- he knew Shane was too fucking old to beat him anyways, but the WADA farce played into his little war against Pac. But Pac didn't help things by going and fighting Shane after-the-fact. If Floyd asks for WADA, and the schools the shit out of Ortiz, then.......the ball will be in Pac's court.....for now.
Look you guys can try to shit on Clottey all you want, but I'd pick him any day of the week over Ortiz and I guarantee you Mayweather never would fight him because like I said, Clottey was one of the more dangerous welters and Floyd managed not to face him. Look how the Floyd groupies are going all out to make excuses for why Floyd didn't manage to fight the top guys at 147 the last 3 or 4 years. They have to go back a few more years and bring up ODLH, Hatton, JMM, Judah, and Baldomir. But my point was Floyd didn't fight the most dangerous guys at 147. ODLH was at 154 and I don't blame Floyd for taking that fight for the money. Neither Hatton nor JMM were natural welter weights and neither Judah and especially Baldomir weren't close to being the more dangerous welter weights. So while you Floyd groupies continue to make excuses for Floyd think about this. Aren't you guys still presently trying to make excuses why Floyd hasn't fought the present most dangerous guy in his division in Pacquiao? You see a pattern that has developed here? You guys seem to have completely forgotten about that fight while giving Floyd the Ortiz pass. Now I'm not going to go back and forth here because you can't change the minds of blind followers, I just wanted to make my point.
Clottey's wins over Judah and Corrales are better than any wins Ortiz has. He also arguably could've been given the decision against Cotto.
Clottey is a dangerous guy who ironically has some big names on his resume that Floyd doesn't have on his, namely Margarito, Pacquaio, Cotto. Ortiz brings some threats but its the sort of stuff that Floyd can feed off, in stark contrast to the stark physicality of Clottey. It should be obvious now that Floyd prefers the leap-flash-amateurism of guys like Ortiz to the more grinding physical approach of guys like Clottey. And no, Hatton was about half-the-size of Clottey.
I had Sly backed up against the wall, with no option but to admit that he was full of shit in saying "Margarito was irrelevant" and what does he do? Leave the thread forever.
NEITHER Judah NOR Corrales were LEGITIMATE Welters...Hell, Corrales Moved Up TWO Weight Classes to Fight Clottey...So There's NOfuckingWAY Corrales is a BETTER Win for Clottey than Berto is for Ortiz...Hell, Ortiz MOVED UP to Face Berto.... REED Would FAVOR Berto to Beat Judah OR Corrales @ 147.... REED
The Bottom Line is, U're Front & Center BITCHING about "Floyd Groupies", yet YOU'RE a CERTIFIED Joshua Clottey Nuthugger...An Army of ONE...Clottey's SPIT the BIT in just about EVERY Big Fight he's Ever Had...& he Gave a MosleyESQUE "Performance" when he Fought Pacquiao... Sorry, but Clottey is THE WRONG Guy to Trumpet, when Trying to Make Floyd Mayweather Look Bad.... REED
beating a fat, washed up corrales was a better win than berto? :laugh11: you say some dumb shit sometimes
So Judah, the guy who was the UNIFIED WW Champion after beating Spinks for the WBC/WBA/IBF titles was not a legitimate WW? Funny, because he is one of the best victories on Mayweathers WW resume. Judah OR Corrales (even a blown up Corrales) versus Berto would be a toss-up IMO.
Are you seriously saying that Corrales who was at least 5'10", probably closer to 6 foot, was "fat" at 147 lbs? Clottey has wins over Judah and Corrales. He has a very close and competitive loss to Cotto. He has been in the ring with Pacquaio and was competitive with Margarito. Are you denying that his ledger is more impressive than Ortiz's?
I would actually go so far as to say that Pacquaio's win over Clottey is more impressive than anything that Mayweather has done at Welter Weight. Which Mayweather win at WW is more impressive? At WW, listed in order, Mayweather has fought Sharmba Mitchell, Zab Judah, Carlos Baldomir, Ricky Hatton, Marquez, and Shane Mosley. Sharmba Mitchell is a career junior welterweight According to you, Judah had no business at WW and actually lost to Clottey Baldomir, no explanation necessary Ricky Hatton, career junior welterweight, looked terrible in his only other fight at WW Marquez, career featherweight/lightweight Mosley, 100 years old Would you pick any of those guys to beat Clottey? As for the "MosleyESQUE" performance Clottey had against Pacquiao; Considering Pac is doing the same thing to all time greats since fighting around welterweight, can you really hold this performance against him?
