Mosley in the same manner he beat Margarito. Of course, Tito is much better than Tony and it would be close, but at welter Mosley slipped punches well and he was quick. He would land the counter right on Tito too often and win an exciting, bruising fight
I think Trinidad hurts Mosley quite a bit and causes him to go into a shell... Trinidad by commanding decision here, I'd bet the house on it
Yeah. Shocked to see so many going with SSM. I guess because of the DLH-Tito fight. Mosley won't fight that (in & out & on ya bike) way though.
both these men were mediocre according to fightbeat. its a shame boxing was so shitty in the late 90s and early 00s
certainly not mediocre, but not great either Shane Mosley was an attacking fighter with one-dimension... he couldn't fight off the back foot worth a damn... he never met a jab he wasn't happy to allow to slow him to a crawl, every time he was hurt, he survived, he stopped really throwing hard... Mosley is lauded as a warrior and it is simply ridiculous... the guy never came back to win a fight in his life... you take Hoya out of the equation (two close fights, as it was) and you have a guy whose lightweight challengers were as ordinary as possible and a guy whose welterweight challengers were absolutely terrible (Diaz was the best of them, and he was a 140 pounder, not a welterweight) ... Forrest made Mosley's flaws visible for all to see... his showings against Winky Wright were an illustration of his limitations, his punches elicited grins from Wright, not the "ouch, I'm hurt and trying to act like I'm not" variety, no these were the "you couldn't knock me out if you hit twice as hard" kind... It took him 12 difficult rounds to get rid of the Mayorga that Trinidad pounded and DLH annihlated, after the fact... He had his difficulties with a badly faded Fernando Vargas and he flat out elected to stop trying against both Mayweather and Pacquiao as soon as he was hurt... warrior, my ass Mosley was an aggressive brawler with fast hands and athleticism... he had DLH's number (though I thought the decision in the second fight was absurd) but if you look at the rest of his work, it is largely inconsistent Trinidad was a tremendous puncher who clearly had no answer to any tough fighter who jabbed and moved on him... he was impotent against it... it's plain to see... doesn't make him a bad fighter by any stretch, but it sure as shit precludes him from ATG status, the same way Mosley shouldn't be called an ATG... it's preposterous
Coming forward in straight lines throwing is definitely not the way to beat Mosley at 147 either though mate.
I don't think Mosley's speed would provide a big problem for Tito. Shane likes to be explosive on the inside with combination but would have to be right there in Trinidad's range to use it. Mosley's a tough guy, but after absorbing some of Trinidad's bombs his output and agressiveness would decrease quite a lot. Mosley can counterpunch, but no way can he replicate what Oscar or Hopkins did. Trinidad UD It's a sure fire crowd pleaser fought at a high level either way. Too bad it never happened.
Trinidad. He probably drops Mosley once or twice en route to a UD. If Shane was able to jab, move, and counter punch off the backfoot, I could see why he'd be favored but he doesn't. Shane Mosley FIGHTS, people. He doesn't move his head. And he goes back and forth in straight lines. There aren't too many guys I would take over Trinidad who fight in that matter. A Carmen Basilio type could do it but I don't think Mosley would be too eager to fight back once he felt Trinidad's punches.
That's not true Neil, at least it's not how I remember it. Shane beat Oscar in June of 2000 and Trinidad was just past the Thiam fight then getting lined up for Vargas that December. Vargas had beaten Quartey earlier in the year and that's when the unification talk between Vargas and Trinidad got moving because Tito had Reid's belt. When was the fight available to Shane? I don't recall it happening like that. In fact, I recall Shane wanting to rematch Oscar because that was the biggest money fight for him. Trinidad beats Vargas then joins the middleweight tournament in 2001, Oscar moves to 154 to fight Campas and Castillejo. Because of that, that's how Shane made the first Forrest fight after initially floating the idea of fighting Winky Wright to get a junior middleweight belt knowing Oscar was moving up. That's how I recall it unless you can show me differently.
Yeah thats definitely one possibility. When Shane feels outgunned he becomes tame as a trained seal. OTOH, we've never seen him go into a shell when he can consistently beat his opponent to the punch exchange after exchange as he would here. Tito changes it with one perfect punch, but those come on their own timetable and Shane might have landed so much before it comes that the pattern of the fight goes that way. And as i've said before Shanes an underrated puncher at welterweight. I think a Mosley KO is more likely than a Tito KO, which'd probably be long odds. If Tito wins it's probably because he catches Shane hard early and puts him in such a jittery shell that the rest of the fight is Tito pressuring and Shane twitching and clinching like against Forrest for 22 rounds.
Aye, several voices in my head are shouting that too. I like my original answer a little better but only by a 55/45 margin. It could either way. I'd favour Shane by a (garage ::) nose, but I might be doing that in this thread just to shake a fist at an excessive confidence in Tito. It's the type of fight where I'd only bet if I thought one fighter was badly overpriced.
Give me CDoggs analysis and Trinidad here. I class Mosley as the somewhat better fighter, but not by enough for the way this one pans out.
