Cotto is not a MW. Why should he fight Martinez? In Cotto, Martinez is obviously just looking for an easy payday against a smaller name opponent.

Maybe he should think about challenging Bute and getting into the mix at 168. I doubt he'll lure Pac, Mayweather, or Cotto up to 160 so it seems his only options are to either challenge himself at 168 or try and drop back down to 154.

His walking around weight is reported to be in the 180 neighborhood, but he isn't a "True Middleweight"? He is 5'10" and looks to be rather heavily muscled and thick. He sure looks like a middleweight to me.

It's unfortunate that there aren't any big names at 160 for him to fight and make money off of, but should that give him a free pass to continue to fight and call out welterweights and junior middleweights?

 

Martinez wants to make some money before he retires. He isn't going to make any money fighting either of these guys.

Besides, Pirog is still green and didn't look very impressive in his last outing. Ishida has just one notable win over Kirkland who probably wasn't any good to begin with.
