Compared with losing 9/10 rounds to Floyd and getting KO'd in 2 by Manny. Juan would have lasted way longer than that. Even David Diaz looked better against Manny than Hatton so by the Diaz-Malignaggi-Hatton logic i guess hes better than Hatton.

Diaz had Marquez on queer street. Hes much better than Zoo.

Diaz was coming off a KO loss and moving up in weight, when he got his bs gift against Paulie.

How did making a C level fighter in Collazo look C level for Hatton?

Diaz was quite simply a volume puncher that over achieved in part by being properly matched thru the first 75% of his career. I give him credit for accomplishing what he did because I don't think he was naturally much of an athlete. And amassing a great ammy record and rolling it into a successfully pro career is no small feat regardless of the opposition.

All that said, Hatton was a legitimate stud. From Pendleton to Phillips to Tszyu, Hatton proved over and over that he was among the best 140 pounders in the world.

Losing to 2 of the best fighters of the last quarter century late in his career shouldn't diminish Hatton to the Diaz level. That's just insane.

Marquez the old lightweight is not a better fighter than Kostya Tszyu

Diaz was fucking dominated by Marquez except for that one 10 second stretch in fight numer 1

Hatton BEAT Tszyu, made Tszyu quit

Diaz was made to quit by Marquez

I can not believe you are actually trying to prop Diaz up by bringing up Marquez

Hatton lost 8 or 9 of 10 against a guy you routinely rave about on this site

Diaz lost to a guy that lost 10 of 11 to the guy you are now claiming is a lesser fighter than him

Malinaggi is like a dividing line... A-level fighters don't lose to a guy on that level... let alone twice... every A-level fighter Malinaggi faced beat his ass cleanly

And the "moving up in wieght" thing doesn't really hold water when you are talking about a fat lightweight moving up to face a weak 140 pounder with the punching power of a toddler

Yes he did for a few seconds...then he went on to get brutally KO'ed by the smaller fighter....

Yes but he was fighting Malignaggi....can't get any easier than that...a fighter with no punching power average speed, terrible defense who thinks he is a speedster w/ wilfred benitez type of reflexes...AND since you are a Mayweather groupie and you like to bring up "punished opponents"...Malignaggi was in to brutal fights vs. Hatton and Cotto...both of them broke his face...

Besides that, Diaz Actually FOUGHT in the 140's, PRIOR to Dropping Down & Eventually Getting a Title @ 135...

Siding with me on the Floyd debate honestly doesn't mean anything to me - I've just seen him make a few good calls on fights here and there, both upcoming matches and analyses of fights that have taken place.

Anyway, that's neither here nor there, the point is that pretty much nobody on this forum is going to vote any differently.. I guess that was probably what REED wanted to illustrate though.

Also, side note - bringing up Hatton's Pac & Floyd fights is kind of absurd. Either Pac or Floyd would've murdered Diaz.

Yes they would have. Just like Juan Manuel Marquez would have had his foot up Hattons ass.

yeah, because he's such a force at 140

Hatton manhandles Marquez, way too strong

I remember people on here was saying that he was too strong for Manny.

JMM is a HOF fighter he would whup Hattons ass sin duda.

Marquez at 140 would get pushed around by Hatton

I can't definitively say who would've won Hatton-Marquez, but I can definitively say that (imo) it wouldn't have been a one-sided beating in favor of Marquez. Hatton was very physical and much bigger/stronger than Marquez.

Bigger and stronger, who gives a damn man. This isn't weight lifting.

JMM's perfect combos would light Hatton up all night.

  23. LATIN KING

    LATIN KING Undisputed Champion

Both had the same style but Hatton actually had power to go with it.

I do consider both over achievers to some degree.

I think Diaz winning 3 belts was more than I thought he would. But there is no way he would have won anything if Corrales and Castillo were still in the division.

I think they were moving up when he started with the big fights at 135.

With Hatton I didn't think he would get past Tszyu. Although I think Tszyu is overrated to some degree.

Half of this is true. Castillo had nothing left when they fought.

  27. I think people say these types of things too easily. Prior to facing Hatton and since the Mayweather fight, Castillo had lost only one fight and that was the great fight with Corrales which he had since avenged by KO. No evidence at that point that he was washed up. It was a good victory for Hatton.

  28. loadedgloves

Disagree, Castillo was shot before the Hatton fight and the Ngoudjo fight showed it. The weight issues didn't help, either.

Agreed. JLC was a shell of himself.

Not to mention he was broke and fought for free. His purse was highjacked by the state of nevada for the fines levied against him after the third Corrales fight fell through.

Also, Castillo's brother died shortly before the hatton fight.
