Thank you kindly for that, Sly. That's a very appreciated gesture.

Fair enough on the flack. I really did enjoy all the films, though. I just watched them recently, as I said, & I thought the third one was terrific work. It just grabbed me, for whatever reason. Remember, this is purely enjoyment I'm talking about, not which film is objectively the best.

  4. All because of the brilliance of...

    Michael Fassbender!! :bears:

Indeed. He played a kick ass Magneto.

I loved First Class as a starting point in what seems to be another trilogy. I wish they had done something like this first and then continued up to the more recent mutants. I loved the Wolverine cameo. But the Xavier-Mystique has no continuity with the first trilogy. They were like bro and sis, and then in the first trilogy they rarely, if ever, communicate. Seems like he was more interested in Magneto.

Well, remember it is something like forty years between this movie & the first film, released over a decade ago. Still, you are right I think --- it didn't ring especially true.

The worst situation along these lines was in that deplorable Wolverine spin-off from about two years ago. In the first movie, he has to be told who Sabretooth is...apparently, his best buddy from thirty-odd years earlier. Terrible, but then, what do you expect from an X-Men film which uses Ryan Reynolds & a Black-Eyed Pea band member. Not much, surely.

  9. Moreso than you realize. Mystique almost KILLED him in the first film by adding that substance to Cerebro to put him into a coma. NO way a loving friend/sister could have done that.

I didn't see the need for trying to introduce a mystique/xavier history. I thought it was silly.

I never read the comics, but remember bits & pieces from the animated series when I was a kid.

Was there ever a link between them? Not that I know of.

I actually like Reynolds in that role....I thought he should have been used a lot more than what he was....

If i remember correctly.. WOLVERINE was shot in the head by a adamantium bullet near the end of the movie....that erased his memory...

  12. word.

But it doesn't explain why Sabretooth doesn't seem to acknowledge him as if he knows him...

Ah. Obviously, I've only seen the movie the once, so that escaped my recollection. I wish someone had shot me with an adamantium bullet as I left the cinema, actually.

that Michael Fassbender is a fuck up

his Irish accent was slipping through many times...couldn't anyone pick up on it and get a re-take??

Wolverine had a bullet through his eye in that movie ricocheting around that adamantium skull of his. Even with rapid tissue regrowth, scarring would occur, and who knows how that would affect memories.

Unless they show how something happens between Mystique and Xavier that turns her against him completely. It's not like she's the most mentally stable character to begin with. Iron is in the blood and occurs throughout the body. Who's to say Magneto doesn't use magnetism to fuck with brain chemistry? He wasn't exactly kissing babies when he led the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants in The Uncanny X-Men.

Saw it and liked it. However I have to get this off my chest.

HOLLYWOOD RACIST MOMENT - The only black X-Men in the film gets killed and out of only 2 mutants in the whole film he's one of the ones who dies. The other guy was a main character.

Here's the funny part: The moment they showed his power I told my date that he was going to die. I already had my doubts just because he was black, but once his power revealed to me that he wasn't an actual X-Man from the comics I knew he was history.

Hollywood loves to play off the black man dies first joke just because everyone knows about it yet they still thinks it's a coincidence.

& they used a former German Nazi to kill him off, to boot!!!

I can only imagine your rage (what was that line Magneto uses? "A fury this world has never witnessed!") in Movie 3, where they pit blacks against one another, with Storm killing that sneaky-fast dark girl.

    The horror...

  20. Lb4Lb has a point though.

They love to kill off the black men first in these films.

    shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit

    Does he?

What, then, to make of the fact that a black woman survives until film's end, in spite of joining Shaw's villainous outfit?

Does one count, but not another as countenance?

Pretty sure that woman was Latino. Even still it is the black man that whitey loathes and prefers to make a mockery of. If no black man then yes a black woman will do.

  23. Black MAN not black woman.

Anyway it's not a major important point and who cares. He's just right that it is a trend.

Well, if you say so. I did notice a hell of a continuity hiccup skimming X-3 last night. Xavier is walking in a scene which takes place some 15-20 years after his apparent paralysis in the current film.

  25. Yup.

Something tells me that George Lucas is involved in these films somewhere...

The first hour or so was painful, Xmen movies are consistently disappointing.

    Could be

I really did like the third film (either that or this new one best of all), though. Sly. Ditto for #2. I like 'em all, truth be told. What's so sub-par about part 3 for you?

  28. Killing off Cyclops....especially that early in the film. Killing off Xavier. Balancing two strong storylines at the same time. Should have concentrated on the "mutant cure" part of the film. No need for the Phoenix nonsense. The heavily built up Iceman vs Pyro confrontation was a complete letdown. Multiple man wasn't utilized properly and Juggernaut was a JOKE!! (Vinny Jones is the man though).

Was still an entertaining film though, don't get me wrong, but too many negatives for me.

Good break down on why #3 sucked. However I didn't really mind them killing off Cyclops and Professor X came back at the end of the film. What I really hated was the ridiculous fight at the end where the X-Men take on hundreds of other mutants with Beast just slapping everyone out of his way like they're babies or something. I also agree the Phoneix story line was a bad idea.

I believe that "cure" storyline actually came from another Marvel comic book series called DP7. It was pretty similar to X-Men but it was like another earth where the regular Marvel superhero's didn't exist and some people were being born with powers just like the mutants in the X-Men. I still got my DP7 comics too.

    Fair enough criticisms, I guess.

Let me ask you guys this --- what's the best single scene in the quadrilogy (I just can't bring myself to respect the non-linear Wolverine spin-off)?

My vote goes to the opening White House assault in X-2. Superb.
