Just interested in hearing your opinions as I'm bored and there isn't much going on in GD at the mo. Were they good fighters? Bad fighters? Frauds? Were you a fan of one or both? Hated em? Couldn't care less? Etc

Good fighters both... I give Benn more credit because he nutted up and tried to test himself against some of the American middleweights... but, hey, head to head Eubank got the best of him

I never liked either guy but Benn was certainly exciting, anytime you can hit like that and you are that vulnerable, memorable things happen

  3. Good fighters, especially Eubank. Benn was Tysoneque in terms of sheer excitement. He's one of my favourite fighters of all time. I mourned when he lost to Watson and Eubank.

Great fighters who engaged in great fights and would be contenders in just about any era.

benn -logan is still probably the closest boxing match Ive seen to a street fight. outside of the bowe tillery fiascos

benn was getting his ass pummeled before that hail mary left hook. he also made his best effort to hit behind the head as usual.

eubank was a weirdo, but i liked him more than that cheat.

I liked both guys and both were very good fighters. The tension between them and difference in personalities made up for a fantastic rivalry. Both Men were very intellligent too.

  10. I knew Benn's dad, brothers and Jimmy Tibbs. I met Benn briefly only once.

  11. Benn-logan was incredible.

  12. :say:

Benn was as dumb as a bag of bricks!

Eubank was more intelligent than Benn but far less intelligent that he thought he was.

I liked the way Benn portrayed himself. Intelligent in that sense

A little more liberal than I would be with that word.

I watched their first fight last week. I always like Eubank more, but does anyone agree that the stoppage was a tad early?

agREED. I wouldn't categorize either fighter as "great". Both were a notch or so below that.

  16. I thought so at the time. The thing is though that BENN himself didn't agree with you and that's the main thing. Dude was hurt bad!

I do think though, and it never gets mentioned, that Benn was the victim of a SHORT COUNT against Watson. He must have been down only 5 seconds before counted out. Fastest count I've ever seen.

I thought Benn edged him in the rematch.

Both fighters were excellent, but I missed both of their early careers. Back then, no internet to speak of so it was pretty hard to see foreign fights. Benn/Gent was on regular tv and then Showtime started showing their fights, but Showtime was not always easy to get back then, either.

I'm a big fan of Benn. Eubank was cool too.

Benn/Eubank were "good", even "very good", but definitely not great

an argument could definitely be made there

  21. Too British to be considered great, isn't that right you yank!! :giggle:

I agree with you. Eubank was a potentially great talent but he never proved himself. Benn was basically just a puncher with a ton of heart.

    HAHA!

    No, of course not

I think Ken Buchanan would've been thought of today as an all-timer at lightweight if he hadn't the misfortune of being around when that Duran guy was fighting... he's one of my all-time favorites
