like him or not, hopkins is a fearless dude. look at his competition in the last few years, it really shits on pac or floyd's.
Me too. He's one of my favourites of all time, but he's gotta go. Dawson would beat him...he should just retire now.
While REED would Looooooove it if Bernard LOST to Dawson, REED ISN'T as Confident in Dawson WINNING, as Some of ya'll Seem to B... Bernard Struggles Against SPEED & ACTIVITY...& While Dawson is CAPABLE of Exhibiting those Qualities, he DOESN'T Show them to the Degree that Pascal Did....Head to Head, Pascal Actually Proved to B SUPERIOR to Dawson in those Particular Areas... & Bernard's DEALT w/Pascal... STYLISTICALLY, what's Dawson Gonna Bring to the Table that Pascal DIDN'T???...Again, REED WANTS Dawson to Win, but he Wouldn't Even Wager $1 on Bad Chad to Actually Follow Suit... REED:Lok:
Hopkins looked to be the better fighter last month. Not saying you're wrong, but I don't see this as clear one way or the other.
I would think winning the title from the guy who just beat Dawson would be a bit more impressive. I think you're over rating Dawson a bit here.
After what Hopkins was able to do against Pascal, I can't see him losing to a slower and much less active guy in Dawson. I thought it was pretty clear that Pascal was the better of the two anyway and Hopkins beat the guy twice. A draw in Pascal's hometown is a win in my eyes and it was proven to be no fluke the second time.
pascal was lucky to defeat dawson. loooked like he was on the verge of being KOd when the bout was fortuitously (for the frenchie) halted.
I don't understand how anyone can be confident picking against Bernard. I'm not. Personally I think this could be an easier fight for Hopkins than Pascal. Pascal always had that chance to hurt Hopkins badly. Dawson really doesn't. On top of that, Hopkins lead right against southpaws is a thing of beauty. To win Dawson needs to think high pace and activity. He needs to avoid Hopkins leaping in with the lead right and then clinching. And most importantly, Dawson needs to avoid in-fighting with Hopkins. Chad doesn't seem to be very good in tight where Hopkins is an absolute master. I lost some respect for Hopkins toughness by the way he bitched up in the Calzaghe fight. But I have to admit, he's earned it back by trying to fight the best at 175 even at his age. He isn't Ray Leonard hand-picking Donnie LaLonde to win 2 weight class titles in one fight. He legitimately wants to beat the best in the division. Personally I hoped he would retire for good following the amazing win(s) over Pascal, but I think Dawson is a fight he can win.
I'm a fan of both fighters. Dawson, I'll admit it's more due to a regional bias then anything. Hopkins is a smart boxing guy, however his confidence must really be up at the moment, since he has in the past, professed zero interest in fighting Dawson because of the age and speed difference. Regardless of the results of the Dawson/Pascal match, Dawson has obvious technical skills that Pascal does not possess. Hopkins happily fought Pascal because, as an older skilled guy, he saw a lot of technical holes he could exploit in Pascal that do not exist in Dawson. Pascal ultimately out-hustled Dawson, who is not as skilled at blunting Pascal's lunging in and out attacks as Bernard is. Dawson doesn't hold much or fight particularly dirty, which it what allowed Pascal to do what he wanted against him for large stretches of the fight, before he started to gas and Dawson began to catch up to him. Dawson against Hopkins. Both are slow starters and neither seems to really tire out, because they both pace themselves............sometimes too well. I predict Hopkins will do just enough to lose most rounds and Dawson will win a comfortable decision.
HBO should also use this fight as a test case to debut their new gadget, "The Feint-O-Meter". Use it in conjunction with the Punch stats to judge which guy throws the most "feints". Lampley screams, "Larry, Chad just threw a brilliant one-two at Bernard, but I gotta say..........Bernard is really out-feinting him out there. The Feint-O-Meter reads 295-198 in favor of Hopkins. Can Bad Chad close the gap in the final rounds?" Lederman - "Jim, I gotta say, ring generalship here is key. Bernard may be throwing the most feints, but Dawson is rolling with most of them. Chad is definitely throwing the the harder, more effective feints. After 10 rounds I have it scored 6 rounds to 4 in favor of 'Bad Chad' Dawson. I've also taken the liberty of preemptively scoring the 11th round in favor of Hopkins............so this is gonna be a really close fight" Larry Merchant - "I have the fight even after 10, and as I watch all the posturing going on in the ring before me, I'm reminded of the story of the Old Man and The Sea. I don't remember the details of the actual story, but it does remind me of how old I really am, and the sweet fact I won't have to watch too many more fights like this before they bury me in the ground. Jim..........Harold. Shut the fuck up, I'm going to sleep"
Hopkins found the balls to fight Dawson I see, he must finally be confident in his supplements. Still and all, I know one fighter that is his worst nightmare and who he will never fight,...and that's Andre Ward ofcourse.
Of course Ward is also unable to fight anytime soon since he's still got to fight Froch. Even if Hopkins was interested, it wouldn't be for about a year.
Yes, but when the time dawns,.. he wont want any-part of Ward's inside game,... he'll be on the ground bawling like a bitch.
i hope it never happens, but if it does, hopkins vs. ward should be for the olympic gold medal of greco-roman wrestling.
When the time dawns, Hopkins will be 48. I think you might be expecting a bit much of him. Prime Hopkins vs Ward would be an interesting matchup, though not very easy on the eyes.
