Yeah, Roldan was a big puncher, Andries really wasn't... and Roldan never put Tommy down

Andries was getting killed in that fight, I don't really understand your beef

No beef. I just found it entertaining. Andries refused to fold and Tommy had a rep for wilting. Manny Steward said he was worried for Tommy throughout, I;ll try to find the link.

That was probably the best back to back series of fight i remember for 1 month. Diaz-Campbell was the other fight that month and that was another really good fight.

Frank "The Animal" Fletcher" vs. James "Hard Rock" Green

Actually...Fletcher has a bunch of fights during his NBC days that could be on this list.

Also...Chacon vs Boza Edwards II & Chacon vs Limon IV

Gomez vs Pintor was a great fight that doesn't get mentioned very often.

Great mention. I miss those Saturday NBC fights.

I was lucky enough to be at Fletcher-Mugabi live. To this day, it still the wildest boxing event I've attended. I swear after watching that fight live that I would have bet anything that Mugabi was going to kill Hagler. I still think that's why I give Hagler more credit than most for beating The Beast.

I got to see what it's like out at Rhode Island, because in this world, Chacon-Limon IV is always brought up when discussing great fights

Sounds like you're exaggerating a bit, you know, like the way you do when you are discussing Ingemar Johansson?

It's obviously a great fight, but I can't remember the last time I have seen (or heard) it discussed.

Hagler deserves lots of credit for beating Mugabi when he did. It's mostly the folks who don't know much about The Beast or those with an agenda of diminishing Hagler who find fault with that fight.

Absolutely, That was a crazy fight.

    ...and cheap shots.

There's no way that was a better first round that Hagler-Hearns.

    Katsidis-Earl, anyone?

Tszyus fights with Pineda, Hurtado and Hatton are badly under-rated as action encounters!

Golota/Sanders & Pouha ... Golota was far superior to both these fighters but allowed himself to get into a brawl with both of them, and accordingly, made for two very entertaining heavyweight fights. Neither was the spectacle that his fights with Bowe made for, but both were convincing clues what to expect from Golota in the future.

Chavez/Martinez ... this fight gets mentioned for its significance as Chavez's first title-winning effort, but it's often not mentioned what an exciting and competitive fight it was for several rounds. Martinez evidently didn't know what he was in against, and being undefeated himself, was as determined as Chavez to not back down. The result was a violent brawl with both guys going for broke nearly from the opening bell.

Adamek/Briggs II ... I haven't seen their first fight, which was supposedly a good fight as well, but the rematch was a great fight to watch, with back and forth, knock-downs, and plenty of trading of punches.

All three of these fights are classics, that every true boxing fan, young or old, owns a copy of.

I don't think it fits. Remove these now.

    Good call on Adamek-Briggs.

Golota-Sanders was one of the bloodiest distance fights I have ever seen. The ringside guys actually got SHOWERED with Sanders blood in the 2nd round. Their notes and laptops got covered in his blood. It looked like somebody had cut themselves on a piece of glass.

Piss off. I can count on one hand the times I've seen any of these fights discussed here.

And it's a huge stretch (what a surprise!) to cal Golata-Pouha a "great fight".

What makes a "great fight" then???

Always remember, A. Gatti vs D.Riftwood had the potential to be wildly exciting.

Is there more to a great fight than excitement??

Does it have to be fought at a high talent level? Too high a talent level and you'll find guys slipping punches and all of a sudden the excitement factor will go out of it.
