why would someone go to a website and read articles authored by writers they are constantly disgusted by?

Pretty clearly not a coverup though. And I wouldn't call Montoya a writer. :nono:

Right.Agreed. Kind of funny that we should see such noble sentiment leaking from a site which has been the prime promoter of the "never fight in Germany" routine.

    Mathysse was robbed.

    MAcklin wasn't.

No, but it's cheap and glib. Deal with the matter at hand. Montoya behaved like a schoolboy, telling tales to bail himself out. Maybe he isn't a writer, I don't know...somebody thinks he is.

To be fair, I don't read Montoya. He isn't nearly clever enough to grasp my attention as a writer.

I'm not enough of a snob to turn my nose up at any site or writer- Neil has asked why I read them, the truth is I will speak with anyone, listen to anyone, read anyones column. It's not a question of masochism, per se, deliberately reading stuff I know will antagonize me, I give everyone a chance and indulge them.

That's fair. I'm an actual journalist, don't have much time for the bush league online stuff.

That probably makes me a snob.

Steve_Dave, do you get a lot of Nova Scotian Bear attack footage rolling through your station, or do you mostly have pussy black bears up there?

Thats a bit harsh, you can definitely see a trajectory where some of the on-line journalists have improved and developed over time to the point of being good and a lot of the time essential reading. I'm thinking Jake, Cliff Rold for example, even Doug Fisher and Steve Kim sometimes.

Noble, put it this way - I haven't come across a bear aroun these parts that I couldn't take in hand to hand combat.

I agree, to be honest. Jake is VERY legit. I like Fisher too. Kim, not so much.

Haven't followed Rold since he worked with Pedro, is he still in the game?

Well we had a guy over here called Tom Humphries, who is an associate of George Kimball, and was very well read on the US Sports scene, Irish games and Soccer. He was pretty much the Irish George Kimball. He just got busted on a kiddy raper beef so its just as well that I cast a wide net. As I say, not everyon has a mainstream paper or the site of a mainstream TV network {like CNN, BBC, ESPN etc} behind them, so they go it alone. I will give anyone a chance. Its up to them to be objective, and tell things as they are, not how they would like them to be.

Mathysse was jobbed, Alexander now needs to be re-assessed, and with him, much of the current 140 crop. What happened between Macklin and Sturm is irrelevant, and was only injected by Montoya to obfuscate the matter at hand.

I know you know this already, I am just saying............

Pedro Fernandez? Now there is a guy whose articles I print only with a view to saving space in the bathroom. Reading material and toilet paper on the same shelf.

He writes for boxingscene, he tries a little too hard with the boxing historian schtick, looking for the historical comparison or analogy as a narrative hook, but you can't fault enthusiasm IMO...prefer it to many of the cynical more established boxing hacks

I don't know if that was Montoya's motive - as I said, I don't read him. I'll take your word for it.

Honestly, my only use for boxing journalism is what's coming up. Who is planing to fight who and when. The rest I can sort myself.

    Fair.

I liked Raskin... not much of a boxing guy, but an enjoyable read. He still around?

I agree with you, as stated above, that one's own journalism is always as good as anyone elses. For me, it's like Bono or Madonna listening to Paul Simon or Nirvana. It's always nice to hear somebody elses take on things. I like good writing. I know what happens in a Bull-Ring, but its nice to hear Hemingway's opinion all the same.

I agree with Salaco...there are a LOT of really embittered, cynical fucks out there who got more axes to grind than a downtown division of the FDNY.

I didn't see the Sturm/Macklin fight, but Montoya is generally useless.

I can't make a decision on Montoya until I have given his work a fair shot. So far its been pretty poor

I posted the fight in the appropriate thread.

Saying you work for a "major network" in Canada is like saying you've seen a "great dentist" in England.

Gee, thats great Bub. I guess nobody in England knows a damn thing about bits of sharpened steel inside bits of plastic combined with a soapy lather.

Oh, and Shane McGowan is generally regarded as IRISH, which ought to figure.
