Haye was trying to work out how to get inside and how to fake Wlad into making a mistake and then make him pay. Problem is it resulted in a great deal of posing and postering and Haye falling to the canvas whenever Wlad leaned on him.

Shane, however, bitched out of the pacquiao fight like a little pussy. After pac floored him Shane's only tactic was "how best do I survive to hear the final bell". The fucker even ADMITTED this.

I'm not one who has Larry Merchant's viewpoint on the match but you are way too far the other way.

Haye was indeed trying to find a way to get inside or catch Wlad with a launching overhand right. However he was never seriously hurt trying to do either. He was resigned to waiting for Klitschko to make a temendous mistake. At some point you have to realize that aint gonna happen. Haye NEVER pressed the issue.

This against an opponent thats supposed to have a glass chin, can't handle pressure or in-fighting.

This in the biggest fight of Haye's life.

This with the world watching with the heavyweight title(s) on the line.

There isn't a discussion to be had. Haye tried to win best he could given the style match up (with the possible exception of not taking the chances he should have while exhausted in the last 2 or3 rounds), Mosley didn't.

I'm beginning to think Roy Jones jr might have been the only person watching that fight who actually understood what the fuck was going on in there.

I mean, seriously, what the hell fight were the rest of these guys watchng that they would even entertain a discussion of whether this was as cowardly as Shane's last effort.

 

This doesn't mean Haye was a coward who didn't try to win.

Haye merely couldn't solve the puzzle. It's VERY difficult to "press" when you have a very tall guy in front of you that's constantly popping out his LONG jab and then pulling away the moment you press and then leaning on you the moment you get close.

I saw Haye trying. I agree with you that there is a point that you must dare to be great and just start throwing punches like a madman hoping to get the KO...and there were a couple times late in the fight when Haye did throw some wild "hayemakers" and started getting more physical and had Wlad nervous...but Wlad for the most part nullified Haye's attack.

Shane Mosley NEVER tried to hurt Pacquiao. Mosley was, simply put, a bitchass pussy punk cunt that night. issed:

 

Haye's style is to feint on the outside until he sees an opening then throwing impactful, big time shots. Low volume, low action, high impact. That's how he fights, how he's fought in every fight you've ever seen him in.

Against a guy who's 6'7 with an airtight defence and very cautious, he was always gonna throw at a very low rate. When you add the threat of incoming from Wlad which presented a very real threat of getting KO'd if he'd gotten wild you can redouble that dynamic.

Haye tried the very best he could given his style and given the style dynamic. If he'd managed to land one of those big shots the fight would have been different & through the first half of the fight that was a very real threat. Wlad knew Haye tried, he would have been aware of what was going on in there. But without that happening he was never gonna get much done. He wasn't in there to win rounds, he was in there to angle for a stoppage, which he tried his best for through the first 8 or so before fatigue. He was looking for an ambush.

Roy Jones was the only one on the HBO crew with a fucking CLUE what was happening in there, and Im disappointed more on fightbeat didn't see it like he did.

 

I was in a noisy bar and so didn't hear the Roy Jones commentary...but that's the fight I saw.

 

The worst thing is that if Haye HAD been successful and landed a big shot in say round 7 like he was trying to walk Wlad on to or pounce for, Larry Merchant and Harold Letterman (the latter in particular is a fucking imbecile) would have A) said it was a lucky shot out of the blue B) that it was just further evidence of how much Wlad sucks and is vulnerable to getting KOd at any given time even against a guy who wasn't even trying.

Roy Jones would have probably just chuckled something to the effect of 'oh I dunno Larry, I've been watching Haye trying to draw Wlad onto that since round 1' just to get shot down by Lampley backing up Merchant with a punch stat as if it settled the issue that haye hadn't been trying. Then Letterman would say something about Wlad not knowing that he should always keep his left hand up like they teach you first day in the gym & Roy woulda just rolled his eyes, chuckled again and played along.

 

The aggrieving issue for me is that Haye didn't gamble when plan A had clearly failed, not that he tried to lure Wlad into a big shot.

I wish he gambled more too and just started throwing punches like crazy. There were a couple spots in teh fight when he started doing this and then went back to the same old waiting game. Wlad was too smart to allow any openings.

 

That had only become apparent by about the 8th or 9th by which time he was very fatigued. I agree he should have taken the risk then but by that point and in that condition it was obvious the chances of success were very low. As bitch outs go it....I've seen worse. An all lower case bitch out.
