Saw this tonight and I liked it. The story was pretty good and even though they were covering lots of parallel stories at once it never felt like something was out of place or missing which is usually the case. The action was good and I liked this film a lot better than the Transformers movie, but not as much as the X-Men. The only negative I have was it was in stupid 3D. I go to the counter and ask if they have military discount and the chick tells me yeah, but not for 3D movies. WTF! If you see this one, watch a few minutes after the credits start and they'll show an extra scene which creates an opening for a sequel even though it probably won't happen since the movie didn't do well at the box office. It's not all the way at the end of the credits so you won't have to wait long.
By the way I took a date to see this one -- a sister -- and she liked it too. On the other hand I also took her to see the Transformers movie and she liked that one too, so I guess it's not saying much that she liked the Green Lantern.
It brings together two things in films I have little time for - a super-hero theme, and Ryan Reynolds. A pass for me.
What's wrong with Ryan Reynolds? I get that you might not like the films subject matter but I find it hard to believe that you'll avoid any movie that has Ryan Reynolds headlining. He ain't great but he ain't bad either.
I guess I just find his humour very insipid. I feel, watching him, that anybody could deliver his style of c6edy. I can only attribute his success to being relatively photogenic...which, sadly enough, likely rings true for more contemporary celebrities than not.
I've always liked Ryan Reynolds. Thought he'd hit it big after Van Wilder, but it never really happened. Liked him in "Smokin Aces" and "Adventureland". I mean, he's no Daniel Day Lewis, but he's likable enough and competent at what he does. That said, I think I'll sit this one out until I run across it accidentally on cable.
