Decrease Pac's, increase JMM's. Sorry for stating the bleeding obvious.

  3. Would Pac's status fall HARD? Plummet? Would Marquez suddenly be on Chavez level?

    Be more specific please..

talent/skill wise, he's already there. just hasn't had his share of significant fights to prove that he's on par. this might as well be his last chance and i don't see anyone picking him to win, so if he does win, it might cement his legacy as one of the top 3 greatest mexicans ever. he's already like top 5 imo.

    Yep something like that.

The effect it would have on their reps is nothing in comparison to what it would do to Floyds. Floyd would basically be the man if Pac loses to Marquez.

Pac's status would be hurt no doubt, but it certainly wouldn't 'plummet'.

Marquez has already given Manny two very close fights and has the tools and size to do so again (and maybe even beat him)

Because the two already have history between them it won't be as much of a blow to Manny as if it was some other former feather.

Honestly dunno what it'd mean. So many weird factors to weigh up.

Marquez has already been comprehensively defeated at welter as he was at no other weight, which caused many to draw the conclusion that he was ineffective above 135-140. He's also slipped clearly from his 126-130 days, whereas Manny has gotten better.

Thus if Marquez wins, it would both hurt Manny and boost Marquez considerably more than if the fight was at a lower weight.

(it would also enhance Roy Jones Jr's legacy)

No f'ing way, Joony. Chavez had about 300 successful defenses before he lost. JMM has been losing title fights ever since he began getting them.

i am sure there would be some excuse for Pacquiao where there wouldn't have been any for Floyd.

Can someone change the title of this thread to Sly's intended purpose:

"If Manny Loses To JMM This Enhances Floyd's Legacy And Proves He's Better Than A Guy Who Went 1-1-1 Against A Guy He Dominated."

    Thanks!

the most interesting part of this question is if JMM were to beat Pac at 147, would it be a more significant and impressive win than Pac's TWO wins over JMM at lower weights? Where did they fight 126 and 130, right?

Personally I think pac has beaten this guy twicem albeit real close both times. I supppose if JMM wins, Pac deserves a 4th fight for total supremacy once and for all.

to be honest I can't see JMM at this age going up to 147 and beating pacquiao, so if he did, i think it's a remarkable accomplishment. probably boosts him up ten or so spots from where he would otherwise finish in the all time rankings

If Marquez beats Pacquiao at this weight and age or even has a close fight with him, it certainly won't be ignored that Marquez wasn't even remotely competitive for a single moment in his fight against Floyd.

This also funny because this is definitely what Sly is up to, but when the Triangle Theory doesn't work in his favor, he beings it up (as if he is the only one who is aware of it) and shows how this type of comparison does not work.

Is Foreman a lesser heavyweight because he couldn't beat Ali while Frazier and Norton could?

Mind you...neither of those guys went the distance with Foreman.

Think carefully about your answer...Norton and Frazier went a total of nine rounds with Foreman and were knocked down a total of eight times.

The reason it would apply in this instance is because a lot of people claimed the reason Floyd badly outclassed Marquez was primarily because Marquez was ineffective at 147. So

    a) First and foremost, for those people, this has to be considered a shitty fight to begin with.

    b) If Marquez does do well against Pacquiao, those people will have to acknowledge that Marquez is obviously not ineffective north of 140, and thus lend much greater weight to Floyd's victory over JMM.

OR...it could just be proof that Marquez (and before some overreacts and and gets his panties in a wad, I'm not saying this is all he is) is a fighter who has Pac's number and would give him difficulties at any weight.

and every great fighter has had those guys.

A fighter just "having someone's number" implies that the other fighter is superior and for some reason just can't beat this inferior fighter who is otherwise not really considered special (eg, Mosley/DLH, Barkley/Hearns).

Marquez is far too accomplished and too obviously skilled to be dismissed as such.

Nevermind the fact that Floyd and Manny fight nothing alike. How JMM does against one of them has nothing to do with the other. It's all about how one style does against another. Floyd obviously has a more troubling style for JMM. He's a far more defensive fighter than Manny, not to mention a much bigger guy naturally.

Ummmm...next time maybe you might want to read my entire post before you try talking down to me

I didn't say that was all there is to Marquez is. I actually made a point, which you ignored, of saying that I WASN'T saying that. Ugh. I mean...seriously?? Why do some folks respond without understanding what they are responding to.

    Again...READ before posting.

If Pac loses or wins this fight, he is still greater than Floyd IMO.
