Needless to say, my interest in this card has skyrocketed. http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2011/7/1...-injured-phil-davis-will-meet-rashad-evans-at Not 100 percent done, but it probably will be. Needless to say, my interest in this card has skyrocketed. Too bad it's a 3 rounder.
i just bought tickets to go see this since it's in philly. main reason for going is to see Akiyama though. belfort may have enough wear and tear for akiyama to take this! it would be awesome if machida vs. evans II gets signed. i doubt it will end in a KO though. evans will fight like a girl to survive.
The thing I love most about this fight is the fact that a Machida win sets up a possible Machida-Jones if Jones gets by Rampage. With Evans new style, this might go a little longer and test Machida's take down defense, but Machida still knocks him out. And TLC is right, much better card if this fight happens.
I just read that Joe Silva offered the Evans fight to Tito Ortiz and Tito turned it down.. I realize it's a quick turn around following the Bader fight but Tito suffered no damage and fought less than a round. It's a little pussified that Tito didn't jump on the opportunity for the rematch with Evans.
Duh, my bad. I meant Evans. Not sure why I typed Lyoto. The Evans rematch seems like one Tito would want since the first one was a draw that Tito actually should have won. It's corrected now. Thanks.
well, evans has improved since and tito probably wants another W before he loses again. but he should've taken it. i thought the bader fight was kinda flukish. wouldnt surprise me if tito loses his next fight against much lesser opposition.
I can understand tito not taking it. Its less than a month away and he just fought. He is no spring chicken. He needs proper time to train.
There are tons of conflicting reports about Machida. Some say he is in, others say he already declined the fight.
Which is why a fight with Evans, which is a fast track to contention, is a tough opportunity to pass up. As Joony said, now he'll probably not fight again until October and get beaten by someone like Stephan Bonnar.
I dont think Tito even wants to be champ. I think he just wants to stay busy, make money and fight. Who knows tho. after his KO victory he could have gone on a vacation.
That said, I don't see any possible replacement and this card has probably gone to complete hell. Seriously at this point the best they can do is probably put Gustaffson or Matyushenko vs Rashad and flip the matchup. But the UFC never does stuff like that. The best guy they can bring in literally is probably Luiz Cane.
Looks like the UFC just scrapped Evans from the card all together. Talk about shit. Franklin-Lil Nog as a main event with Belfort-Akiyama as the co? That blows. Plus, the other fights on this card are dismal. Seriously Santiago, fresh from getting beaten and spit on by Bisping is on the main card? The McDonald-Pyle fight is interesting but that's about it for me.
you are right. But when i said whatever, i said it because that small detail didnt matter. That wasnt my main point.
Im upset you arent #1 on the prediction contest. It seems like you only do well when im there. You must have been stealing my picks.
Mind powers bro, mind powers!! I'm going to have to enter your mind for the next event. Thanks in advance. ::
It's funny, I was talking about it in another thread addressing how bad Bader's chin must be because Tito hadn't knocked anyone out since Frank Shamrock. I have no idea why I keep referring to Ortiz over Bader as a KO. I should probably be banned for a week or two to get my shit together.
Tito's in now. Kind of surprised. Dana must've offered him lifetime job security or something. That said, when's the last time someone has fought on back to back cards? The last person I can think of that did that is Randy Couture back when UFC cards were every 4 or 5 months.
Yeah that's crazy. Well good for him Maybe he will make 800k for this fight. He made like 500k last fight right TLC? Or was it less?
Dana said Lyoto wanted "Anderson Silva type of money" and he said he wouldn't do that until Lyoto accomplished what Anderson has accomplished. No surprise. Anderson has sold about a whole card's worth of PPV buys more than Machida has in his last two headliners. Selling about 225k more.
