...a good shot, & maybe even favouritism to, coming up in weight & challenging Tito?

Do you mean guys who fought at 140, or guys who spent the majority of their careers there?

I think a prime Pryor would have given Tito fits.

  6. ILLUMINATI

    ILLUMINATI Roberto Duran

    That who I was thinking.....

  7. Ramonza Soliloquies

    Ramonza Soliloquies "Twinkle Toes" McJack

Guys who were either exclusive to 140 (like Tszyu) or who were primarily known at that weight (Pryor, Taylor).

I'd say its a poor match-up for Pryor...I'd pick Benitez and Loche maybe

Trinidad & Pryor would be very interesting. Id figure Titos power to clip the Hawks wings, but you never know.

Benitez, if he qualifies, would school Trinidad, no contest.

I think Pryor matches up pretty well with Tito.
Never seen Loche I don't think. Benitez I'm not sure about.

I do not like Tszyu's chances against Tito. He couldn't take getting hit by Phillips and Tito hits a lot harder than Vince. Doubt Tszyu could steamroll Tito like he could most.

I think Tito would knock pryor's head off. Locche has a much better chance.

Pryor vs. Trinidad at welterweight would have been a sight to see.

I wouldnt consider Mayweather & De La Hoya to be known really as mainly JWWs, though (even if that mayve proven their best weights with more time, & De La Hoya beat Trinidad IMO), would you?

Would anyone give Tszyu much of a shot? Yes, no?

    NONE....zero....

Benitez in shape would shcool Trinidad

Locche has a chance, but its hard to say because he spent almost his whole career at 140 and was not a very big guy... though clearly, a genius boxer

    Hoya already beat Trinidad

Pryor is hard to figure too, he was not an especially big guy, I don't know how he'd wear Welterweight... but he was a preposterously talented fighter

Whitaker at his best would have taken Tito to school... the fact that he elected to be aggressive and trade with him in their fight tells you all you need to know about how far gone he was by the time they actually fought

Tszyu's chances are not so good, in my opinion... both he and Cervantes get hammered trying to move up

140 is a weird division historically... you either have guys who are big enough to fight at higher weights but are cutting down to fight there, especially at a young age (Hoya, Benitez) , guys who stay there forever (Pryor, Tszyu, Cervantes, Locche) or guys who are good there, but prefer fighting at 135 (Carlos Ortiz is the best example, Esteban DeJesus clealy preferred 135)

It seems to be the first big line of demarcation between bigger guys and smaller guys, the place where they can sort of meet on even terms

The only truly small guy I can think of who started south of 140 and then was really still a great fighter at higher weights is Pernell Whitaker

Whitaker wouldnt be in this equation, because he was known mainly as a LW & WW, not a JWW.

Of course, though, hed have had a remarkably easy night with Trinidad in his pomp. Remarkably.

  22. You're PR though right?

    Anyway, I agree with you.

  23. cdogg187

he did put on two of his most stellar exhibitions at 140, though

Pineda (who looked utterly defeated after about 2 minutes and took a beating) and Brazier (who never stopped trying but was hopelessly outclassed)

    Still, I understand your point

    Bull
    shit.

Whitaker would never have an easy night with Tito. It's been shown that someone who was stronger than Tito could keep him off balance, but Tito NEVER had any trouble with a fighter who was physically weaker than him. And Whitaker was a lot weaker and couldn't punch hard. Tito always gives Whitaker problems at welter.

    Ramonza Soliloquies "Twinkle Toes" McJack

I couldnt disagree more. Whats been shown is Tito has no answer for defensively first, or even second, class fighters.

De La Hoya, Hopkins, Wright --- all fought conservatively, & all won in my book. Two of them with more than a half-dozen rounds to spare.

if you had delahoya winning 9 to 3 against trinidad then you simply dont know how to score a boxing match or you are tumescent for delahoya

I assumed it was pretty obvious the, "two," I was referring to were Hopkins & Wright.
