This discussion is already goin on in the MMA section but I thought it would be interesting to have this discussion here aswell. What do you guys think? Who wins this fight and why? Overeem is both MMA and kickboxing K-1 champion. He won the K-1 by rushing forward and throwing hard punches. He is powerful big man and I believe he could give Vitaly some trouble.

Overeem is a beast. A fysical speciman. You are underestimating him. Watch how he destroys K-1 legend Peter Aerts in the 2010 K-1 final. He knocks him out in the first round.

Thats in a different sport. A different sport. Creating openings for punches & closing range when you only have your hands as a threat & the other guy is always 2 feet planted and able to move or counter takes much more nuance, diversion and precision. His balance is too upright, his stance is too square,he over commits on shots, doesn't move his head and these are fundamentals you cant rewire in a 6 month camp.

    He'd get massacred.

lol Rainmaker, surely you know better than this?

It would be an embarrassing 1 sided beating, I'd be surprised if Overroid saw the second round.

No offense Rainmaker, but Vitali wins this brutally.

Vitali might kill him. Overeem's chin is suspect and Vitali would knock the curl out of his hair.

Laughable. Overeem was gassed after 1 round with Fabricio Werdum in a non-eventful fight. Vitali kills him.

It's really a ridiculous discussion because Overeem isn't near qualified nor near deserving to carry Vitali's spit bucket in a boxing ring.

That being said, I'd pay to watch Vitali murderize him.

Vitali dummies this guy in the ring or cage!

In the cage the opposite would happen. A Muay Thai clinch by Overeem and Vitali folds like he has a shoulder injury and Chris Byrd across the ring.

Vitali would kill Overeem. then Irish would post about how Vit had just destroyed an MMA *and* kickboxing star, whereas Michael moorer got knocked out by George foreman in 1994.

  16. No MMA fighter could consistently take the punches from a boxer.

The question is whether the man is a good grappler and can avoid Vitali's punches and grapple him into submission quickly or else kick him out. But if Vitali lands combinations on him it's over...especially without boxing gloves.

  17. Just realized that this will be in fact a BOXING match. That changes everything.

    Vitali KO 1 mismatch.

Vitali would certainly have a fair shout in MMA given the way he controls distance so well. And obviously given that he was also a world class kickboxer.

There are probably good MMA fighters he could beat there and Overeem would be the type of guy he'd have a good chance against - especially given the space of an octagon.

So in MMA it's an interesting fight, in a boxing ring, it's not a match it's a slow execution.

Right because MMA fighters don't have the natural granite chins bestowed upon all boxers. As if boxers, upon choosing the profession, are granted better chins.

Geeezus.... I've seen boxers with glass chins and I've seen MMA fighters with glass chins. Likewise I've seen fighters in both sports with granite chins. It's an individual thing and has nothing to do with sport.

    Hilarious.

The competitive pressures that would weed chinny guys out as they rise up the ranks are stronger in boxing - taking punches (and from much better punchers) is a more central part of boxing.

  21. Dude...boxers take more punches consistently than MMA fighters, in gym sparring and then in fights. They are used to taking a lot of punches. You and I know that MMA fighters aren't used to that consistent punishment in terms of punches to the face. That makes teh difference.

And yes...those that excel at boxing, do so because their punch resistance tends to be better than the average man.

    So don't be silly..

Vitali would have zero chance against Overeem in an MMA cage. Controlling distance is far more difficult in MMA than boxing.

While Overeem's grappling and BJJ isn't top shelf in the MMA world, he would look like the second coming of Royce Gracie against Vitali.

I am still reminded how a very novice-level, rudimentary low single ankle pick ended James Toney's night against Randy Couture. Distance was supposed to be the key in that fight as well.

Vitali could be beat some MMA fighters, primarily those that have zero grappling skills like former champ Tim Sylvia and rely on their boxing skills, which are pathetic compared to elite boxers. But against a relatively well-rounded guy like Overeem, Vitali would be a fish out of water.

  23. AH....perfectly said. If I saw this before I would have simply referred to it instead of typing out that long shit.

So a fighter can improve his chin by getting hit more in sparring? Wow, that's good to know. So basically, guys like Marvis Frazier and Bert Cooper should have taken more punches in sparring to improve their chins..

Silly to continue down this road, but I will. MMA fighters are 'USED' to getting hit with tiny MMA gloves. Therefore, based on your absolutely moronic rationale, their punch resistance should be greater because they are routinely hit harder due to glove size.

Hilarious. Thank you for my morning laugh.

Now there is a good point. I don't completely agree with this but it makes far more sense than Sly's contention that taking more punches in sparring improves boxer's chins.

That being said, we are talking about Alistair Overeem who is a World Champion kickboxer and has been sparring since he was 14 years old. I'm pretty sure that 'competitive pressure' that weeds out the chinny guys has been adequately applied to Overeem. He wouldn't be getting punched for the first time.

  26. I have nothing more to say, as my explanation was sufficient and so was Hut's.

It's obvious that you have no intention of accepting the truth that a top boxer will knock and MMA fighter the fuck out in a boxing ring under boxing rules.

Yeah, you have nothing more to say because you already made a fool of yourself. And yes, saying: "Getting hit more in sparring will improve your chin." is more than 'sifficient'.

And by the way, re-read the thread genius, I already said Vitali knocks Overeem silly in a boxing ring.

You're the dolt that said Vitali would have a 'good chance' of beating Overeem in an MMA match. Don't run from your own stance.

Will be interesting to see how long it takes an MMA fighter to fight an elite boxer in boxing. It should have already happened given the fact that boxers make dollars and MMA fighters make cents.
