They don't stand a chance. I've yet to see an MMA fighter that belongs in a boxing ring with even a slightly above average boxer.

We talk about Nick Diaz. Even the proposed bout with Jeff Lacy was one that Diaz shouldn't be favored to win.

Personally, I wouldn't pay to see any MMA fighter in a boxing bout versus an elite fighter. It would be one-sided and pointless. It would the equivalent of James Toney looking beyond pathetic against Couture. Maybe worse because it might not end as quickly.

Trpl, there is actually a huge difference, believe me, I know it first hand.

Although everyone is born with a chin of a certain value or potential, boxers taking punches all the time in sparring makes a huge difference. They simply know how to take a punch better, and if they are THAT chinny, they won't make it to the top level.

After I started boxing I've sparred several martial arts guys, and they simply can't take a punch. Not even close to a boxer, they're not used to getting hit.

MMA is obviously different to the Kung Fu/TKD guys I'm talking about, but the point remains, they won't be able to take a punch anywhere near a world level boxer on average.

Let me put it to you like this Trpl, are MMA fighters born with granite legs/knees? Of course not, but you best believe they can take a leg kick 10 times better than a boxer, even those with a more slender, boxer esque physique.

Rainmaker has a BETTER Chance of Starting a Legitimate Thread than Overeem has of BEATING Vitali in a Boxing Match....

Ridiculous. I'm as big a MMA as anyone and this is just retarded. Overeem would have zero chance against Vitali. The dude can't even stand there for 3 rounds without gassing. He wouldn't make it 5 rounds in boxing.

Toney had the worst imaginable style for MMA - we all knew that before the fight. A short, fat guy with slow feet who habitually fights on the inside.

Pretty much the opposite of Vitali. Would I favour Vitali over Overeem in an MMA ring? No. But would he be a total lamb to the slaughter? Nah, he'd have a decent chance of staying on his feet long enough to land what he needed to. Especially in the vast expanses of an octagon where he could flat out run a couple of times if needed. Significantly less than a 50% chance, but a chance.

I'd expect the Klitschkos to do better in MMA than most boxers, they actually have a kickboxing background.

Overeem is a kickboxer, chuck Liddell was a kickboxer. I'm just saying, it's an advantage to have experience in more than just boxing.

Not a relevant response to ZED's point. He was saying that they'd have a BETTER chance than most boxers in that they have a kickboxing background.

    He's correct.

You are correct. Everyone other than Anthony understands and agrees with your point. You don't have to waste anymore time further explaining yourself.

It also depends what style of fighter you match a kickboxer in with. If it's with another guy who likes to stand and strike& is consequently less expert in the takedown department than some his chances increase. Being successful in the sport of MMA with all the different styles you encounter in a career is a different business to having success against a given guy.

I still want to see the fight. Maybe a reflection on how poor the heavyweight division is at the moment.... It is cliche, but it is just so incredibly true that the divison is shite. Most exciting fights are against former cruiserweights, why not just throw in an MMA guy too

Yeah, it'd at least be a sight more fun than Vitali vs Bermane Stiverne or some shit.

And it'd be a decent boon to boxings 'street cred' among the 'WHOO FUCK YEAH' MMA generation.

Im just saying some of the best kickboxers ever have sucked in MMA. If you dont have a ground game, you arent going far in today's MMA.

Liddell was also a Division 1 wrestler. So yeah, far more than just a Kickboxer.

But I've got to run, I am going to go work on my glass chin by getting hit more in sparring.

I just wonder what boxing history could have been if guys like Patterson, Shavers, Lopez, Hide, Seldon, Morrison, Moorer, Grant, etc. would have learned this amazing training technique.

By the way, I am Tweeting Liddell and Wandy right now that their careers might not be over because I know a way they can get rid of those pesky glass jaws.

Boxing doesn't either, it's live or nothing for me. I do have some favorites that I have rewatched, but nothing compares to live combat in both sports.

Boxing is a much more serious and established sport. Any yahoo can't just jump in and say they want to fight a HW champ. That's unfortunately a lot less true now than it used to be, but even as bad as boxing has gotten, it's still not the type of sport where an aging, shot MMA fighter would get a chance against a world class beltholder. Not yet, anyway.

I feel exactly the same. That's not a massive knock on MMA though - boxing is the only sport that has rewatchability for me and one of the reasons it floats my boat so much.

MMA is OK. It's a top 5 sport. A good sport.

Why not make it a non-title fight? Remember when boxers used to have those & didn't feel the necessity to spend 6months of every year promoting their next fight and another 6 months sitting on their ass. I don't admittedly but I bet they were good times.....
