Yep, it won't be until November but the first UFC 5 round non-title main event will highlight UFC 138 in England.

The main event pits Chris Leben vs Mark Munoz against each other for a 5 rounder.

The card will be broadcast via tape delay on Spike TV on November 5th.

can't say i want to see 5 round fights between non-elite guys. either way, it probably won't go past 3 anyhow.

Leben Vs Munoz as a 5 round main event, or even a main event? Hmm.

Free card. Usually the England cards are headlined by boring ass Bisping so I consider this an upgrade.

Leben-Munoz is a great main event for a Spike card. And Z is right as usual. At least Bisping isn't featured.

Damn the Euro guys are getting screwed, they get the worst cards.

This is a cool match up, and I really like Munoz, but it's a solid main card fight, not a main event.

It's on Spike. It's like complaining about the main event of an ESPN Friday Night Fights show.

And the UFC, as it usually does, stacked the card with local fighters.

Every UFC fight should be 5 rounds IMO. And after the judges' scorecards are read and there is a draw, there should be a sudden death round.

Im hoping that's the direction the sport goes in one day hopefully...Hanz. Uniform 5 rounders would be a great thing, unfortunately it'd also cut into the card space.

That said, I don't really care much about the card, but Pickett- Barao is going to be sweet.

It shouldn't cut into the card space because I've actually noticed that 25-30% of the time during a ppv, they're showing highlights or just barking endlessly or just doing stupid montages. If they actually just concentrate on the fights themselves, there's no reason why at least 6 fights can't be shown. If they need to make the PPV 3.5 hours, they should do that. Pride did 4 hour events in the U.S.

You want to kill the UFC? Then make all fights 5 rounders or extend the length of the televised card.

The UFC panders to the short attention spans of today's youth. They are currently set up to do 5 fights on a card. That way, they can allot 30 minutes to every fight (max) and be done in 2.5 hrs. The most important thing about doing it this way is that they don't bore the crowd with overly long, boring fights. A slow fight is over in 20 minutes and they can move on. It also lets them fill in the spaces with undercard fights that had ko's or submissions. That way, they prevent their fans from having to endure 2.5 hours of decisions.

To screw around with their setup would be playing with fire. If you are a big enough fan to sit through more than 2.5 hours, then watch the (usually) televised free undercard. Even a bigger fan? Then watch the facebook televised undercard.

Personally, I would want 5 round fights to be title matches or eliminators. The problem with doing it that way is that eliminators take away the control of Dana to do whatever he wants to do and puts the power (somewhat) in the hands of the fighters. Dana won't put up with that.

So, they are just going to try out this 5 rd main event thing and see if it works. Don't be surprised if it goes away (or becomes a sporadic occurence) if a couple of boring, non-important 5 round main events take place in sequence.

Ah ok, that makes more sense. Still, it's an absolutely awful card.

Leben Vs Munoz has the potential to be fun, but look at the rest of the card
