Ray Leonard was on the local radio this morning and thought I'd post some of the highlights of the interview. When asked who was the toughest opponent between Hagler, Hearns, Duran, and Benitez he said without a doubt that it was Hearns. He said the Hagler fight was a great personal achievement, but that Hearns took him to another level. He said that Hearns ridiculous physical attributes made him the toughest. When asked why he came back to fight Norris and Camacho he said that it definitely was not because of financial hardship. It was solely because of ego and that he truly thought that he could still compete at the top level. Haven't read his book, but he mentions that there was more than 1 man who "sexually abused" him. It sounded like he was saying there were two different men, but he wasn't very clear on this and the interviewer didn't delve into it. When presented with mythical match-ups between himself and Pacquiao and Mayweather Jr he said that Pacquiao would be tough because he is so fast and offensive, but that he'd figure him out. He seemed to just dismiss Mayweather saying that he knocked his father out and he'd knock the son out too. Some other questions were asked. The radio station is 106.7 The Fan if you want to go look for it.
I like listening to great fighters, even if they're weird guys. I'll always have time for Ray Leonard.
Ray Leonard says more than one guy sexually molested him...:: You've got to be kidding me. How many molesters are just walking around trying to molest 17/18 year old MEN? They were his gay partners.
Yeah I was hoping they would push him a bit on this topic, but they seemed uncomfortable doing so. Leonard mentioned that he told his first wife and his present wife and that both gave him a look that caused him to push the topic back under the rug. Probably was a "you were 18 and capable of defending yourself, that's consent" look.
The line about Ray dismissing Floyd is what set you off. Nevermind the fact it's true, just rubbed you the wrong way. There was an article say four or five years ago where Ray and Floyd had a few words at a photo shoot. Mostly it was good natured but I'm sure Ray reminded Floyd how he whupped his daddy. Anyway, afterward someone asked Ray would he like to be 22 again then fight Floyd. Ray responded, "I wouldn't need 22. 32 would do." artie:
Sly, your bias for Floyd is at an all-time high. Just yesterday you were talking about how you hate Spike Lee because of how much of an asshole he is and pidgeon holes Black people and yet out of the otherside of your mouth you express a "preference" for Floyd. By any standards that's astonishingly ridiculous.
How so? Floyd always thanks God first before and after fights. i respect that about him, personally. Secondly, I don't see the comparison between Floyd and Spike Lee at all. Is Floyd trying to pretend he's some black leader, inventing causes and controversies just to feed his Martin Luther King complex?
Disagree with you. He always says, "First off, I'd like to thank God for the victory..." "Mans" respect that! If you don't that's your affair...
Come on man, you're better than that. I can accept that Leonard would have beaten Floyd at WW, but dominated? Floyd is a superb fighter...to dominate him a fighter would have to be pretty much perfect. If Leonard was perfect he wouldn't have lost to Duran or behind on points to Hearns. Be reasonable...
Not a Mayweather/Corrales like domination, no. That's fair. But Leonard would beat him with room to spare.
No, Floyd is Doing the Polar OPPOSITE; PERPETUATING the Materialistic, Bling Stereotype that Blacks have & NEGATIVELY Influencing the IMPRESSIONABLE Young, Black Fighters Following in his Footsteps... Yeah, Spike Lee Talks ALOT of Shit & "Finds Racism in his Cornflakes", as You ELOQUENTLY Put it, but Spike IS NOT a NEGATIVE Influence on his Own Race...Floyd CLEARLY IS (U've even agREED w/REED on this Matter)...Spike Lee Could BUY & SELL Floyd Mayweather on a Whim, yet U NEVER See Spike Burning Hundred Dollar Bills or Toting Around Backpacks w/Thousands Upon THOUSANDS of Dollars in them... REED:mj:
Yeah, Brother Sly's Got his Floyd Mayweather THONG in a Bunch...Like a CHILD Defending his "Daddy" or a Woman Defending Her "Man", Here Comes Sly to Floyd's Rescue, just Because Ray Leonard (a SUPERIOR Fighter Historically), Wasn't Kissing his Ass... Ray Leonard BEATS Floyd 9 Times Out of 10...Maybe 10 Out of 10... REED:mj:
Leonard was LURED into a Close Quarters Streetfight w/Duran; the EXACT Type of Fight Duran Wanted....But Even w/that, Leonard Lost a CLOSE Decision...Hearns was a Physical FREAK; Paul Williams w/SPEED, POWER & BOXING SKILLS..... After Realizing he COULD'T OutBox Hearns, Leonard BRAVELY Made the Effort to OutFIGHT him...& he DID...Against Duran, Hearns, Benitez & Hagler, Leonard Went 5-1-1...Call it 5-2, Since Leonard Really LOST the RE to Hearns...No Way in Hell Does Floyd Go 5-2 Against that 4some...No Way in Hell Does Floyd Come Out w/a WINNING Record Against that 4Some... If Floyd Fights in the POCKET w/Leonard, he Gets KO'ed...If Floyd RUNS, he Lasts the Distance but BARELY Wins Rounds...Either Way, he LOSES... REED:mj:
Yeah but... Floyd is an athlete and even more...a boxer. As such the expectations on his character are not that high. I hear what you're saying though...I hate that gangsta shit more than the next man. Spike on the other hand, being a filmmaker is in more of a position to embarrass his race, as he has a greater responsibility on his shoulders. And he does, frequently.
:: I hadn't even read the article at the time of my first response. My irritation is with Ray's fake personality. i couldn't care less what he says about Floyd.
BULLSHIT, Brother Sly... Particularly in the BLACK Community, Floyd's Words & Actions Carry MORE Weight than Spike Lee's BECAUSE he's an Athlete...Floyd's Been in Rap Video's, his Name is Mentioned in Rap Songs, he's Basically Seen as 50 Cent's Right Hand Man AND he's HEAVILY Publicized by HBO... Over the Last 5-10 Years, there's NOfuckingDOUBT that Floyd Mayweather has Been Considerably MORE VISIBLE than Spike Lee has...9.5 Out of 10 Young, Black Men Aspire to B RAPPERS or ATHLETES...Those Same Young, Black Men DON'T View Directing Movies as a REALISTIC Way of "Making It"... To the Average Young, Black Man, Floyd Mayweather is Waaaaaaaaaaaay MORE Influential than Spike Lee is...It's NOT Even Close...& Floyd is Embarrassingly NEGLIGENT w/his Platform... REED:shit:
To quote Al Pacino (Ricky Roma) in "Glengarry Glenross" "You want to learn the first rule you'd know if you ever spent a day in your life...You never open your mouth until you know what the shot is. (pause) You fucking child" :bears:
Has there EVER Been a More "Fake Personality" than "Money May", Flashing THOUSANDS in Cash on Camera, yet UNABLE to Stay Current on your Income Taxes????... REED:scared:
No idea how you arrived at that conclusion, but it isn't remotely close to true. I would bet Spike Lee's net worth total is less than what Floyd would make off of a Pacquiao fight alone.
