Inspired by watching Bob Foster knocking out Chris Finnegan... Finnegan never stopped trying and after suffering a heavy 10th round knockdown off of a perfect right hand, he became more aggressive, trying to trade with the great champion... Foster finally finished the brave challenger with one of the shortest, heaviest right hands you'll ever see

Ron Stander against Joe Frazier- stander willingly traded with the champ and even buzzed him a little with a right in the opening round... After that, Frazier just beat on him like a drum but Stander, staggering like a drunk kept trying to fight back

    Some others?

Ruiz perfomance agains Haye was a hell of a brave one. Heavilly floored in the 1st and hopelessly outgunned, he kept on trying to trade with Haye to catch him with a sneaky shot in between Haye punch and even had limited succes. He was even pissed when his corner mercifully threw in the towel.

Richard Hall vs Roy Jones was pretty much the bravest performance I ever witnessed. In spite of the horrific beating, he never stopped trying.

I believe Tex Cobb said something like if Holmes had to go 20 rounds I'd win

Doesn't really count as he was the champion but Diaz was way out of his depth against Pacquiao and didn't stop trying

I was going to say Diaz... Juan, when he challenged JMM for the lightweight title.

I think it was when they asked him if he wanted a rematch and he said "I don't think Larry's hands could take it" (or something along those lines)

    :giggle:

    Edit i found these:

On the Larry Holmes fight, Cobb's biggest ever bout.

"No, Larry don't hit as hard as Earnie Shavers. No-one hits as hard as Shavers. If there was a fighter that hit harder than Shavers, I shoot him!"

"I wasn't talking to Holmes in there. Every time I felt like saying something to him I found it hard because he kept putting his left hand in my mouth."

"Hey, you're a white guy, do something about this!" To the ref in the Holmes fight.

"I'd have been more active in there, if only I'd been a little more sober."

"Let's party!" To Holmes as they touched gloves for round 15.

"I don't think his hands could take the abuse." On a possible rematch with Holmes.

Trinidad went out on his shield & never gave up the good fight against Hopkins.

Rademacher really put it all out there on debut against Patterson.

Napoles pressed on in vain until the end with Monzon.

Juarez endured a terrible cut early, & persevered gallantly without any success fighting Marquez.

Carpentier & Firpo both would get a nod for their efforts against the far-superior Dempsey.

Tip your cap to Cockell fighting Marciano, as well.

Bruno submitted at least a decent effort with Tyson --- erased totally, mind, by his appalling display in the rematch several years later.

I think you could argue Katsidis put on a braver effort than Diaz did.

"Hey, you're a white guy, do something about this!"

    LMAO!

I think there was another from that fight. Didn't Cosell quit Boxing because of this bout, & Cobb volunteered to go another fifteen with Holmes if it would get him off the air for Football broadcasts?

On this forum, Mavrovic is to be referred to by his true name: Mohawk Bum.

He was a good fighter and all, but Bazooka Limon was in over his head against Alexis Arguello... still, he never stopped trying before the punishment and a terrible cut caught up with him

What is interesting to me is how conservatively Limon and Chacon fought against Arguello, they both tried to box far more than the norm and they gave great efforts, but they just got rocked by the punches

Another good example is Courtney Hooper against Meldrick Taylor. Hooper was overmatched and lost most of the rounds, but he made Taylor work for them.

In his final fight, Floyd Patterson fought exceptionally well in a losing effort against Muhammad Ali

Also, anyone ever see Sammy Fuentes against Julio Cesar Chavez... guy was outgunned in every conceivable way, but he came to win, tried his best... Terrance Alli was a decent enough fighter, but he too was in way over his head against Chavez and gave a great, game effort

    Not a title fight, however.

What about Gomez, duking it out with Sanchez after that abysmal first-round, & working hard, but never really getting to threaten?

    Good Call...

Gomez Even Managed to WIN a Round or 2, Despite Having THE WORST Start Imaginable...Though, as U Said, he NEVER Threatened Sanchez...REED was Rooting HARD for Gomez in that Fight & it was SHOCKING to See him Get Whipped like that...
