I agree. I thought he was a star for sure. What a shame.

He defintately had alot of potential. At one point he was viewed on roughly the same level as Khan was a couple of years ago. When he first lost, people got excited, which tells you something about his 'star' potential.

to think...he was once considered a better prospect than ricardo williams!

Actually MOST people thought he was better than Cotto.

I remember clearly, because I was in the minority of thinking Cotto was the better, more solid fighter.

Pretty sad though. He did have talent that's for sure, I wonder what caused him to derail like that.

Speaking of Williams, what ever happened to him? I also remember a few more fighters from the 2000 class but cant remember the names.

I remember the hype but I never got round to seeing him before he lost, I'm usually slow on the uptake like that. He was rated very, very highly though, sad to see his story turn out like this.

He did several years in prison for selling drugs...he's been out the past few years. he still fights mostly on undercards.

I was in the same minority. Perhaps Bojado had more natural talent but even when they were both prospects Cotto had already proven more. Even based on the interviews with Panchito at the time it seemed he was no work horse. He wasn't THAT talented where he could slack off and still toy with opponents.

I thought Bojado would have a better career simply because I wasn't sure about Cotto's arm after the car accident.

My belief in Bojado disappeared the night I saw him overweight, uninspired and unmotivated during his first loss.

Also, I recall after one of Bojado's early blow out wins Shelley Finkel can be heard saying to him, "be the "good" Panchito" just before the post fight interview. Showtime clearly wanted him to be a star.

Yeah, there was more hype around Mojado than Cotto. I didn't know as much about their backgrounds and amateur careers as most. My eyes just told me Cotto was and would be the better fighter.

I was a huge fan of Bojado, he had the most exciting style that came out of the 2000 olympic class, even more exciting than Cotto's IMO, not saying he was better. Of course once Mayweather Sr got a hold to him his style changed for the worst.

Very true he lacked the dedication to match his talent otherwise who knows how far he could have gone. I know he had the talent to go just as far as Cotto and could have been the Tito to Cotto's ODLH. Although I always thought that Cotto's style was closer to Tito's and Bojado's was closer to ODLH, but it seemed nobody else on the forum agreed with that which to this day is still perplexing to me.

bojado simply had more natural talent than cotto. more reflexive, better power, better speed.

He was also saddled with less dedication and drive which was his undoing.

Also, for his style he had aligator arms therefore taller guys would always give him trouble...he'd pull back and would be out of range to land a punch but not out of range to get hit with a punch.

I think Bojado said he and Cotto fought 3 times in the amateurs....Cotto winning twice....

Its a real shame. Both Williams and Bojado had the opportunity to make some SERIOUS money and enjoy life.

And both were too lazy to work on their genetic gifts and drive themselves to be champions. Instead they chose the easy life of trying to sell drugs and both wound up in prison.

It's more understandable when you have little opportunity to succeed so you turn to selling drugs, but both of these guys had outstanding talent and were just too lazy to utitilize it. Well at least they have a lot of time to just lie around and do nothing now, should be right up their alley.

    What a dumb fuck.

I ranked him above Cotto too.
