So today I learned what it is that makes a shot to the liver so devastating. It doesn't really mean much, but I found it interesting. Maybe one or two people here might find it interesting too.

I've never taken a shot to the liver before, so I've never experienced the paralyzing effect it has. When it happens to a fighter, and they explain what it has done, I just basically take their word for it.

Today, I learned that a properly placed shot to the liver, with enough force, does temporary damage to the vagus nerve, which is connected to a dozen or so nerves and nerve branches, which connect to other nerves. So that's that.

And when we see a delayed reaction, it's just the damage making it's way up through the nervous system.

    Long story short....I'm a nerd.

How proud you must've been all those years to watch Jones coast against garbagemen while De La Hoya almost relentlessly pursued bigger & bolder challenges, facing the best as Jones cowered in his ivory tower of mediocrity at LHW.

Admittedly, De La Hoya's losses are pretty shocking. Defeat at the hands of Hopkins, Pacquiao, Mosley & Mayweather (three of whom are among, perhaps even leading, the charge of the most extravagantly fantastic fighters of the past twenty-five years) don't have the same gloss as getting blasted out by Danny Green (in one round! LOL!), becoming Antonio Tarver's play-thing, & being comatosed by ring legend Glen Johnson. LOL.

As if Your OBVIOUS Contempt for Roy Jones DOESN'T "Bore" Others???:boohoo:...For All of your PSEUDO "Historian" Babble, it's Surprising to REED that U'd Go the LAME, NON-FACTUAL "Garbageman" Route, to Denegrate Roy Jones....

Was James Toney a "Garbageman"???...How Bout Bernard Hopkins???...Montell Griffin???...Virgil Hill???...Thomas Tate???...Educate YOURSELF on just How Many Former World Champions Roy Jones WIPED HIS ASS w/, then Get Back to REED...

Dela Got a GIFT Over a Petrified EURO w/NO Inclination to Prove himself, Named Felix SPERM...& Sperm was a Whopping 6lbs Heavier...Conversely, Roy Jones GAVE AWAY 33lbs to John Ruiz (a MORE ACCOMPLISHED Fighter than Sperm, No Matter HOW U Wanna Slice it)...

Roy Jones was 35 Years Old when Tarver KO'ed him...He was even OLDER in the Other Losses U're PATHETICALLY Trying to Hold Against him...The Bottom Line is, Roy Jones would EASILY Defeat Most of the Black & White Era Fighter's that U Cling to, yet NEVER Saw in Context...

& Let's NOT Pretend that Dela DIDN'T Use EVERY OUNCE of Leverage that he Could, In his Superfights...Making Bernard, THE Middleweight Champion of the World, Weigh in @ 157???...GETthefuck OUT of here, Dude!!!....

The story of Roys career..."all the guys I woulda beat but never fought." LOL.

In the ring, De La Hoya pursued the hardest challenges & built his reputation on doing so. Thats one of several reasons he was the biggest drawcard in the sport for years, while Jones, this, "amazing talent" everyone shouldve been clamouring to catch a glimpse of, couldnt draw flies to shit by comparison. Jones had no such courage, even resorting to PEDs. Out of the ring, De La Hoya retires the richest prizefighter in history, while Jones is reduced to a laughing stock and punching bag.

Dont waste your violin on myself or De La Hoya, friend. Save it for the ballad of Roy Jones. The smuggest champ of his generation is headed the way of his good buddy Gerald McClellan.

Are you referring to the cross-dressing puppet/figurehead who recently checked into a rehab clinic for exhaustion/addiction to meds etc?...plus I would be very surprised if its all happily ever after for de la hoya from here on in. So...its not like Jones is the only laughing stock between the two - the only difference is their bank balance.

Wow, I wouldn't have guessed that REED and Ramonza would be arguing, and that's not sarcasm.

Anybody's resumé can be faulted: Roy didn't fight most of the Don King guys, ostensibly because he didn't want to be locked into one of Don's famous contracts and wind up giving Don's song Carl 30% for being his do-nothing manager.

As for Oscar, I was a big Oscar fan, but at Jr. Lightweight, he took the easiest Jr. Lightweight for his first crack at a title: Jimmi Bredahl. Then he moved up to 135 and it was only then that he fought 130lb titlists or former titlists like Genaro Hernandez (R.I.P.), Jesse James Leija (at that point, a former titlist), and John-John Molina, insisting they move up in weight to face him.

Then when he jumped to 140, he did the same with Miguel Angel Gonzalez. His welterweight reign is rather suspect: close one with Pernell which had suspicious scoring, close one with Quartey which I thought he lost, and then he ran away for the last few rounds with Trinidad, giving away the fight.

Roy could have fought better opposition than he did. He didn't make the big fights that he could have made although he did fight arguably the toughest guys at 160 and at 168 (Hops and Toney). He wasted opportunities. In contrast, Oscar made big fights, but he always made sure to wring out every possible advantage and liked to fight smaller guys until he got to welter.

Both guys took advantage of their star quality to avoid signing with DK for most of their careers. That cost Jones a lot of good middle and supermiddle fights. It possibly cost Oscar the scoring in the Trinidad fight.

I understand this post is an overreaction to what REED said and you might be right with a lot of things, but as a Jones fan i'd have to say smuggest champ doesn't do him right...
