Ok, so here are four mythical mismatches between a heavyweight legend and a one-time contender. All these would end at least 98 times out of 100 in favor of the better guy, so don't go there. The question is, if you HAD TO bet 100 $ for one of these underdogs, who would it be? Here are the fights and 'possible' scenarios

Muhammad Ali vs Tommy Morrison - Ali never faced a guy with this combination of speed, reach and power, so it might take a round or two for him to settle. Maybe Morrison could produce a cut or swelling to get a stoppage

Joe Frazier vs Fres Oquendo Fres had some strength and boxing skill and the style to beat Joe (just not the class). Any chance he wins some early rounds and ruins the rest of the fight to steal the decision?

Larry Holmes vs George Chuvalo Chuvalo is the best of these contenders and a credible challenger, but stylistically this is a very bad fight for him. Some miracle shot followed by a barrage that prompts a stoppage?

George Foreman vs John Ruiz Ruiz made an art out of beating guys better than him. Could his one-two-grab grab-grab-grab frustrate George who can't time him with a counter and bring a decision?

    Pick one

All of them get killed. Morrison is the best of those underdogs, but then he's also facing the best of the favorites. I'd probably go with oquendo as well, though I'd just assume the $100 was lost from the jump

I'd quite honestly take my 100 quid and throw it down a dyke. Suppose I'll go with Chuvalo over Holmes in the hope that Holmes badly twists and ankle or suffers a freak cut.

Yeah, now that I think about it, I'd put my cash on the guy who at least has a chance of going the distance.

I laughed out loud just reading the first and last matches, LOL!

That said, I am actually gonna put my money down on Morrison! God speed, Tommy. May your left hook fly straight and true!

seriously, none of this matchups is remotely winnable for the underdogs

Chuvalo has the best chance, as in 1 in a million

Yes, movement, clinching ability, jab and some pop, is a very good STYLE to beat Frazier. The problem is, Fres does none of this very well, not nearly well enough to beat Joe that is

    like

Ali had style and class to beat Foreman'
Frazier was correct level of fighter but had a bad style to beat Foreman
Larry Donald had style but not class to beat Foreman (meaning he could beat worse guys with Foreman's style)
Cliff Etienne had bad style and no class to beat Foreman

seriously, that style is NOT good to beat Frazier

Ali did it, because he's ALI

You need to PUSH FRAZIER BACK to beat him

Oquendo gets his stringbean heart broken

And Ali LOST to Frazier when Frazier was at his best.

It's the exact opposite of the "style" that a fighter wanted to give Frazier fits.

I could also see guys like Holmes, Lewis etc beating Frazier without pushing him back.

Relax, I am not picking Oquendo here, I meant this as a fun thread:lol:

    Oquendo is a scrub

I suppose Morrison vs Ali. It would have to be a 12 round fight and a really shitty version of Ali for their to be any chance of an upset though.

Fres was robbed against Byrd, who beat Tua, who was compact like Frazier.

Eliminate the middlemen, and we put down $100 on Fres to knock Frazier out cold.

Once, when he was young. And I think we saw enough over the next 15 years to make the KO proof claim.

Not to mention, Tua got lucky after getting his butt handed to him by Fres for eight rounds.

    And Tua stops Frazier early.

Of course! I was talking about STYLE ONLY, not that Fast Fres had an actual chance of pulling it off. You guys make it sound as if I predicted Oquendo's victory (although Jake proved it being the correct take)

Morrison has less than zero chance against a prime Ali, I'm sticking with Fres' zero chance over Frazier.
