Not that anybody cares, but among the best action heavyweight division can produce right now, three top-10 guys at same card
Most divisions are pathetic right now I think everybody knows it deep down but they are afraid to admit it, because that would mean that a peak Aaron Pryor really would rape every 140 pounder on Earth right now and well, we can't have that, because that would mean it really was better back then
I don't think Povetkin vs Chagaev is a pathetic fight, not unless Chagaev is completely shot (his last fight gave such impression). I think this could well be as good a fight as, say, Quarry-Chuvalo or any other between two solid contenders. Neither of these guys is world champion caliber, but they are like those old-time guys with similar size (about 6'2 and 235-230 lbs) both have sound technique and work ethic. In fact, both would be worthy contenders in any era. The problem of course is that apart the level behind the top, meaning the rankings from 7th to 37th is very poor, but this could be a solid bout compared to earlier bouts on similar level
I believe Povetkin, Chagaev and Helenius all are ranked to top-10 by most sources. Chagaev is questionable at the moment though considering his inactivity
Agreed. If not for his last performance I feel Chagaev is a live underdog here. I kind of still think that way.
Not a bad card for a Saturday afternoon (in this corner of the world), though as UGBK suggested, no matter how well the winners (and even losers) perform, it's highly doubtful there's a case to made that the Klitschkos should have anything to worry about. I have to be honest, I'll consider it a huge letdown if Helenius doesn't completely dominate Liakhovich and find it interesting that several American writers are trying to sell this as an overly intriguing bout.
I didn't see Chagaev's last fight, but of the many I have seen, he and Povetkin seem about the same in every category. I think the best result would be for Povetkin to get a sensational win to add some fire to a Klitschko match, but I suspect it will be a very competitive fight.
Hey the divison is poor, but this is one of the better matchups we can get. I am relatively excited for it
I have a simple philosophy now for enjoying fights- I just want them to be competitive, hype-free fights, where both guys have a chance of winning. If they are enjoyable after that then so be it. I've largely given up on witnessing "the next" this and "the next" that, at least for the next 10 years. Give me guys who want to fight, and who will fight anyone. Thats why I like Tyson Fury. Can he fight? A little bit. Not much more. But he has the gift of gab, never ducks anyone, will legitimately fight anyone, and likes to move his hands and get stuck in. Same with Carl Froch. Same with Mike Jones. It can make for entertaining fare. Far more than Judah, who gets stopped more often than your average subway, being touted as a legitimate threat to Amir Khan ::
Yeah,.. Froch and Fury have that narccistic, egoccentric, scum hood-mentallity, or 'riot mentallity' if you will, of which you appear quite fond of, on the streets of london or indeed 'inner city' america... :crafty:
Manny has turned into a Samoan in recent years on the Ariza program, and if you know anything about Mundine's Samoan muslim convert posse,..you'd know that there's atleast a place for Manny in 'inner city' Australia.
