How does Ortiz beat Mayweather?

Discussion in 'General Boxing Discussion' started by Hex-One, Aug 30, 2011.

  1. Yup. Anything can happen which is why no one would bet their house on a fight regardless of how confident they are in their pick.

However, the fact that most see this as a routine win for Floyd speaks to how good people believe Floyd is..not to how weak they think his opponent is. Like it or not this topic proves that everyone here rates Floyd's abilities as highly as I do.

The young prime huge Ortiz, by beating the undefeated and talented Berto in the manner in which he did, proves that he's no pushover or easy touch.

For people to just dismiss his chances like this shows that (begrudgingly in most cases) they believe that Floyd is as good as the hype.

To be fair however nobody here thought Berto was any good to begin with. That fight did expose Ortiz to be wide open to right hands but also proved the kid is tough. He's looking very strong in his camp so this will make things interesting for a few rounds.

  3. Berto wasn't some superstar but he was a good fighter. People are now "bumfying" him but that's just ridiculous.

    No it's about matchups Sly.

Have you read what we've said? Obviously Ortiz doesn't pick up right hands well. We saw that in the Maidana fight...he repeatedly walked into them.

Is Maidana on Floyd's level? No.

To illustrate the point I brought up the Harris fight...it's simply a chank in the guys armor. It's really no different than Ali having trouble with good left hookers.

    It's about strengths and weaknesses...

Not surprising you'd take any opportunity to raise your Philthy Rich Records goblet to toast Floyd.

    More bullshit.

Berto always was shit and his level of competition told the story. the only good fight he was in he didn't want any part of a rematch (Collazzo) and Ortiz was viewed as fodder for Berto.

Far more had Berto in the bum category than the "good fighter" category.

    Your comments are ridiculous

Ortiz has a punchers chance. Floyd gets caught flush and hurt a bit more against southpaws.

Exactly, nobody was saying he was a bum, just that he wasn't that good, he was far from proven and was very protected.

The whole situation reminds me of Baldomir, Ortiz is better than Baldomir, don't get me wrong, but the way they both arrived at a Floyd fight is real similar. Both guys were brought in to lose pulled off the upset and here we are.
