Did Winky Wright ever so much as knock down a world-class fighter?

 

Winky may not have knocked many guys out, but he never stunk out the joint like Spinks.

He didn't hold, stood in the pocket and traded with most of his opponents.

 

Winky didn't stink the joint out by running, he just used his physicality/physical attributes to do it. He had super long arms that allowed him to cover up effectively, fought in the wrong stance which a) is sometimes a pain for other fighters to deal with and b) made his jab was more effective, and thus stunk out the joint by covering up and jabbing the entire fight. In this sense, he was kind of one-dimensional as well.

When Hops/Wright was signed, a few people actually picked Winky. My thought was "Bernard Hopkins is too smart to lose to a one-handed, one-dimensional fighter.'

 

forrest hurt mosley in a few rounds of their first fight and had him almost out early on. did not deliver as thorough an ass whipping as wright did.

 

wright hurt trinidad on several occasions. at one point, the doctor was concerned to see if tito could continue.

 

I think he was more concerned if the crowd could continue.

 

hopkins would have lost to wright if they had fought at middleweight at that point in time. he won that fight because of the weight it was fought at.

Whitaker was beautiful to watch and Winky was like watching a turtle assault a cabbage patch in time lapse.

i didnt think wright was boring. especially as he got older. he was less mobile and took more shots thus more entertaining to watch.
