@ 168 (Remember, Byrd Fought @ 165 or So in the '92 Olympics) & @ Heavyweight, After Roy Beat Ruiz???... REED:dancingBaby:
Gimme Jones here, BIG Byrd needed to be faster than his opponents and he was useless unless you followed him around ... Jones wouldn't do that, he'd use his body quickness to close the distance and then get right back out, he'd never let Byrd use the little tricks and techniques that enabled him to confuse and defeat second-and-third tier heavies during his "prime" I don't rate Byrd, really... I think he was a guy who gained some weight and found a niche where he was still retaining enough Middleweight quickness to do his little moves and his jab-jab-swat stuff against guys who were too slow to catch him and not good enough heavyweights to simply walk over him... against the next level guys (the few of them he faced) who were active and talented heavyweights, he was cannon fodder really Byrd does some little tricky things here and there but he's got nothing for Jones, nothing threatening and Jones places his shots and wins as he pleases... to me, the result isn't much different if a "Ruiz" Roy Jones fights Byrd at heavyweight
I always thought Jones should have gone after Byrd's belt after beating Ruiz. Byrd couldn't punch worth a shit. Even though Roy would have had two belts, Lemmon was the champ. Roy would have gotten killed, but holding two of the three major belts would have been one hell of an accomplishment.
Christina Turd wasnt shit. Theres no fighter in history who I disliked more. I didnt like Lewis, but I wish Lewis & Turd would have fought..... so that Lummox could have smashed Turd's brains in.
word. Hindsight is 20-20 but Roy shouldn't have moved back down to 175lbs. He should have fought Byrd, won, and then retired. His legacy would be Robinson's by now if he did that.
I tend to agree with you. For some reason Byrd got on my nerve big time. I think it was the silly expressions on his face when he was avoiding/blocking punches. He acted like he was some kinda slickster.
I personally don't think I'd rank him much higher than I do now. Maybe a place or so, at most. A win over Chris Byrd when you've just beaten Ruiz is resume deepening, not legacy transforming.
Yep. Cherry picking title belts against mediocre (at best) "champs" while avoiding the real champ in the division isn't exactly the stuff of legends. Hell...I would give Jones more resume credit for taking a shot at Lewis and losing than not facing him at all and only having the Ruiz fight at heavy.
agreed I don't count much of what has become of Roy Jones against him, he beats Byrd and it's a good win, but I'm not ranking him much higher than I do now, which is certainly pretty damn high in the history of boxing
Roid by KO easy @168 and by easy UD @ heavyweight. I don't get why he didn't fight him @ heavyweight. It seemed like it would be an easy night with a very slim risk. Roy was just too fast. He would pot shot the shit out of Byrd.
