The original movies were awesome. It is difficult to add anything new to them

Im of the impression that the original director and writers should be involved in any remakes. I would love to see what the director of a classic could do with modern technology.

Yeah, it actually looks to give much more explanation on how the Apes actually took over then the short segment in one of the originals.

Looks promising, but I'm always a bit suspicious when unknown directors are given a big job like this. Possible cost cutting measure, all the resources going towards the trailer.

Agreed, the last movie was such a disappointment. Then again a lot of tim Burtons movies are disappointing..

Uhh, no. It sucked very very badly. One of my top worst remakes of all time. The original shits and pukes all over the Wahlberg version. I'm talking liquid creamy shit and puke here, not the lumpy stuff.

Anyway this film looks extremely promising. After seeing the new trailer this has moved into my #1 anticipated film list bumping Priest to #2.

It suffers from Cloverfield-syndrome --- an interesting ride soured by a wretched ending.

Yes, that's why it's called "Rise of the Planet of the Apes". Humans die out and the apes become king. In the original movies didn't the humans come across statues of Caesar? I believe he becomes God-like for having empowered the apes.

I liked it a lot, CGI did a great job on the Apes.

I actually thought it was too short if anything. Seemed like pieces of the movie setting up the action were missing, and they just put it together to keep the action flowing, without much care in how they got there.

Probably a 2 1/2 hour directors cut floating around out there somewhere.

I liked the ending. It wasn't a full origin story, it was the origin to the origin.

Maybe a few too many unlikable characters. You know the movie type.....assholes for the sake of being assholes. I guess it gives you a reason to root for the Apes though.

Admittedly, there are some incredible leaps in logic, but I wasn't exactly expecting a tightly woven story on how the Apes took over the world.

Funny thing I realized about this film.

The James Franco character in the movie is a good guy, mainly because we care so little for the humans throughout the course of the movie and are rooting for the Apes.

But the movie could just as well have been titled "How James Franco Killed Off The Human Race".

The ending was typically cynical of Hollywood. Make a movie without an ending so you can hold an audience hostage for as many sequels as you can churn out.

Well, there first step here wasnt good enough to blackmail me into coming back again.

I'm not sure this is correct. This movie was more of a prequel to the originals and so the sequels have already happened.

I didn't see it that way. Cynical would have been tying up all the loose ends just for the sake of it. Did you really think you were going to see the entire cycle of Apes taking over the world in 1 hour 45.

As it was I think they glossed over too much information and pushed the story along quicker then it should have.

This is the type of story arc, I wouldn't mind sequels for, if they are well done and continue the storyline.

I bet you your house they do.

Would it be the most unreasonable expectation in the world for them to tie it up when it already has some five or six other films in its franchise?

In modern Hollywood, the answers probably yes. Youd swear every time they make a, "blockbuster," its done for free and the studios dont make a dime. There just HAVE to be sequels.
