In the final analysis, fighters can be classified into two groups: those who like to fight and those who don't.

Those who like to fight tend to make exciting fights, take more chances, and face better competition.

Those who don't do their damnest not to fight, even when they're in the ring. They're generally uncomfortable in the ring, and shitty to watch.

Floyd Mayweather likes fighting because his house is payed for.

Castillo clearly didn't like fighting as he wouldn't even bother making weight.

Perhaps NO Fighter DETESTED the Act of Fighting MORE than Michael Spinks did...Ray Robinson DIDN'T Like it Either....

Fitzsimmons and Dempsey can't have been that fond of it, considering their lengthy lay-offs whilst still champions. Maxie Slapsie Rosenbloom may not have been fond of fighting either- apparently he didn't like hurting people. I'd say Wlad has a low opinion of fighting, his style is now so offensively-regressive as he doesn't bear much resemblance to his younger style, he has probably only even stayed active with a view to settling score etc. Lennox Lewis was no real fan of "fighting", I am sure of it. Great fighter but you get the feeling he would really rather not be there.

Fighters who love(d) to fight: Duran, Pacquiao, Mayweather Jr, Toney, Morales, Corrales

edit: before the Floyd haters get on me, I'm talking about Floyd in the pre-retirement days, the one who had a grin on his face while infighting with Castillo and rematched him immediately to prove himself

edit edit: and before the Duran haters get on me, fuck you, you don't know shit

Dunno if you're joking, but Castillo couldn't make 135 anymore. It was completely impossible for him, he'd been struggling with it since he'd had to come back down for the Lazcano fight. He should've just moved up, but it's not like he didn't bother trying to make the weight when he signed for the fight.

(Also, by that logic Corrales didn't like fighting either)

Despite Trouble Mel's blindness, Pernell Whitaker clearly loved being in there

No. I wouldn't say that. And I wouldn't say that Mayweather doesn't like fighting either. As long as he can choose his opponent, I think he loves fighting.

As for Benitez, I wouldn't classify him as someone who disliked fighting. He didn't like to train. But he seemed very comfortable in the ring.

So no, that's not what this thread was about. Rather, it's about the undeniable fact that some fighters enjoy their craft more than others.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Mosley. To me, he seems like a guy who loves to fight. His recent performance against PBF might suggest otherwise, but if you consider his bouts with ODH, Vargas and Margarito, it seems obvious he likes throw leather.

Tyson early on seemed like a guy who loved to fight. Lewis, not so much.

Mosley is a front-runner, he likes to fight when he's not getting hit back

once again, your standards for each opinion you state are completely inconsistent and based solely on your biases

well, they are opinions. and i wouldn't say Mosley wasn't getting hit back against ODH, Vargas, or Margarito. once again, you attack anything you don't agree with as bias and without factual basis, and once again, you're wrong. you may not agree with me; that's fine. but when you say my opinion in this case is based soley on bias, you're making untrue statements.

you like for things to be black and white. right and wrong. so that you can defend your every position by claiming the other is wrong. but it's simply not the case. maybe time for you to find a new argument. whether you change your perspective to be less ignorant and narrow-minded? i couldn't care less.

I'm not a big fan of Shane (and I hate to agree with Double L) but I don't think that's fair to him. In his prime he was a tough fighter and very willing to take on all comers.. he didn't have to take on Forrest x2 and Wright x2, and he dealt with adversity in a number of his fights.

    My point is this:

to say that Shane MOsley had more heart and desire than Whitaker is fucking wrong

Double L can't acknowledge that Whitaker, a surly little bastard who clearly derived great pleasure from beating people up and embarassing them and showed in the Hurtado fight that he was definitely no front-runner LIKED TO FIGHT

But Mosley, a guy who folded up shop after getting knocked down by Vernon Forrest and then was PLEASED AS PUNCH to do nothing but go the distance in a rematch, both in his PRIME-- THAT GUY LIKED to fight

    FUCK THAT NONSENSE
