Not that it hasn't been dead for a while but now that the cruiswerweight hopefuls Haye and Adamek have been disposed of it basically has nothing in terms of challangers to the Klitschkos. Seriously who is out there that presents a glimmer of hope to dethrone them ? Tyson Fury ? LOL Povetkin and his Magic trainer ? LOL Helenius ? LOL ....Klitschkos should just retire and the whole division should be be closed until further notice. I am not at all interested in seeing Vitaly fight Haye and Wlad fight Tyson Fury. These championship match ups are pathetic.

Apparently Steve Farhood has weighed in to Boxing Monthly with his latest opinion on this "Crisis".......like I said, the Haye result is slowly sinking in, prompting more wringing of hands from the Forest Hills crew.

VIEW FROM NEW YORK Drastic measures are called for to deal with heavyweight boxing

The irony of it being...................they have Tyson Fury on the front cover.

And the month before that it was....well see my sig. None other than "Genuine World Superstar" himself, Amir Khan.

You couldn't make some of their spiel up.

I wonder if Mr Farooq had bothered to ask these people to name the welterweight champ, or the middleweight champ, if they would have been able to do so. But fuck it, who needs a control group when any old contaminated test will do.

Go back to Forest Hills ya dumb Shish-Kebab.

Are you really so ignorant that you don't know why he specified the heavyweight division?

Its in a wretched state, but it will be no healthier for the Klitschkos' retirement. More competitive, sure, but no division gets better by taking the best two fighters out of it. More competitive doesnt mean better, it just means you are lowering the standard.

As much as I believe them to be (for the most part) quite unremarkable fighters, they do bring a dignity & a class, sense of decency rare to Boxing, & for that they do not get their due. Someone like Mike Tyson gives us instant gratification & yes, we would all (save perhaps Irish) rather watch him than the very dull brothers fight, but he does as much damage as he does good. The brothers are upstanding outside the ropes & if you love Boxing (by which I mean you care for the sports image, not just enjoy watching guys punch their heads in), you have to tip your cap to that.

They've cleaned out the lot,.. Wlad would not have been short of opponents if Vitali didn't come back,.. but since he did,..it's been split in half and now they've got nothing to do if Fury and Helenius are dealt with.

:wack: As one would advise mr Plainview,.. there is one permanent hold out
    :wack: Atlas/Povetkin... aint gun hap.

Yes, I know why. It's because he's a Yank. Of sorts.

    wrong

it's because the fortunes of boxing as a whole are inextricably linked with the perceptions of the heavyweight division

Maybe that's a good thing. If they can't name one of the two champions at HW, they might not be able to name any of the 4 champions at Welterweight, they might not have heard of that big fight that can't get made, the steroid accusations, the loaded gloves, Bernard Hopkins etc.

it's a good thing for people to have no interest in a sport that has such massive historical significance?

you can't just say "fuck it, better off" because of some controversies

    there have always been controversies

    Irish Yuge, Beautiful

People in Europe retain massive interest. Klitschko Adamek did 40,000.

What has been happening at 147 is not controversy.

It's been shite for some time now.

What streets was Mr Farooq walking down? American streets.....

the place that was undoubtedly the greatest producer of talent and great fighters for 100 years and now has virtually vanished, leaving a massively depleted talent pool

people in Europe went apeshit for fringe contenders for decades, that is NOTHING NEW... the problem is that it hasn't produced MORE QUALITY FIGHTERS

Henry Cooper never beat anybody, but the Brits worshipped him

There is far more nationalistic fervor in Europe over even MODERATE successes... your problem is that you think the US, with its stew of totally different ethnicities reacts the same way to the success of an American fighter, hence your theories on "Yanks"

When Ali was finished, Sugar Ray Leonard took up the slack.

    Floyd hasn't done that.

    He could do it.

    But he won't.

So lets walk down streets, American streets.....

    it wasn't just Leonard, man

Holmes was an enigma to the public, but the public still watched, they were still aware... the racial tensions alone made Holmes/Cooney the richest fight in history at that time... it was a MASSIVELY big deal here

It wasn't just Leonard, there was Hagler, Hearns... Ray Mancini was a HUGE star... Sean O'Grady was a teen heartthrob... Ali was a supernova, a massive star, there's no comparison but boxing was still a VERY BIG DEAL after he was gone... when Tyson came up, people were awed by him

Oscar De La Hoya was a big star by the standards of NOW... but he is nowhere near as known as the stars of the 1980s... my grandfather could not have cared less about sports, he knew who Marvin Hagler was... He wouldn't have known Oscar De La Hoya from Oscar De La Renta

Oh! Maybe we need a racially charged fight or two, get boxing back on its feet!!!

Hilmer Kenty... he beat the shit out of him, pillar to post and won a world title when that meant something

He also was giving it to Jim Watt until the Scot got a "head's up" on him

You stop people in the street in Ireland they think Hilmer Kenty is a fag club down on St Great George Street.

  24. Irish

No. I am with you on that one.

It is as big a sin that John Duddy and Bernard Dunne are as well known as they are {in either Ireland or America}as it is that Wlad and Vitali are as badly known or as they are {in Ireland or America}.

Duddy, ironically, got rave reviews from Steve Farhood, who referred to him as "Derry John" and "handsome".
