Had Floyd signed up to face Margarito back in the day, everyone would have said that Margarito only beat Cintron who was a pussy and he (Marg) had no skill and was basically a mexican punching bag. If Floyd were to have avoided Ortiz, everyone would have said that Floyd avoids any BIG Welterweights, that are young, motivated, in prime and that can punch. I'm not trying to set it up as anything...but it is every bit as meaningful as a win over Margarito would have been. Destruction and Mayhem has Spoken!!
if floyd had fought Cotto pre-Margarito and won, he would have received considerable praise from all of us had he fought Margarito post-Cotto and won, again big time praise from everyone, even those of us who do not particularly like the guy Those wins would be VASTLY more valuable than a win against a kid that most of us think is a shit fighter lucky enough to be fighting in a shit era
:: Hilarious. It's hard to tell if you're just trolling or you really are that stupid/delusional. Ortiz is a career 140 pounder with 1 fight at welterweight. A fight where he looked the same size as a guy (Berto) considered by most to be a small welterweight. Plasterito is much bigger than Ortiz, it isn't even close. Ortiz is also a guy - albeit talented - not considered to be an elite fighter by anyone. He quit against Maidana when the going got tough, and didn't have the mental fortitude/finishing ability to stop Maidana, Peterson, or Berto when they were basically asking to be stopped. Like whiskey said, Ortiz would be a decent win, and that's it. Better than Marquez and Mosley for sure, but nowhere near as much credit as he would have got for beating someone like Plasterito back when no one knew the scumbag's little game, or Cotto back in the day.
Secretariat please.....unlike Mayweather vs. Cotto, Margarito, or Williams...which everybody wanted to see 3-4 years ago...NOBODY...NOBODY was screaming and calling for ORTIZ vs. Mayweather... This was typical Mayweather opportunism ...weak minded young fighter who just came off his best career victory against overated Berto, who quit after 6-7 rounds from a fight that was still winnable, then said in the post fight interview "I'm young but i don't think I should be taking this kinda of a abuse" EASY winnable fight for Mayweather.... Have someone like Margarito circa 2007-2008 limited as hell but with the same size, fighting style, undefeated(like Mayweather like 'em), coming off victories(like Mayweather like 'em as long as they don't pose a real threat)...would Maywether fight an UNDEFEATED coming off beating Cotto(w/ plaster, but Mayweather doesn't know that) Antonio Margarito??? HELL NO!!!!..... Plaster or no plaster prime Margarito would beat the hell out of ORTIZ...
We need to make an I'm a Floyd Mayweather fan 1st and a boxing fan 2nd bandwagon and stick a few of you mofo's on it. Destruction and Mayhem, RJJP4PNO1, and Loaded Gloves are all riding shot gun.
The reason I'm a Floyd fan is because I'm a boxing fan. Anyone who can't appreciate what he does inside the ring can't call themselves a boxing fan.
As a boxing fan I appreciate what Floyd does inside the ring. However, when a fan finds absolutely no fault in what their favorite fighter does and sits there and excuses every questionable move the fighter makes, it starts to look more like the fan worships the fighter not just idolizes him. And when the moves that fighter makes benefits the fighter even at the expense of the sport and that fan is still there defending him with the kind of blind faith usually reserved for our lord and savior, then I have to think the fan is in denial or just oblivious to how much of a fan he really is.
Sounds like you and others here when it comes to Pacquiao. The amusing thing is that you claim to be objective, while giving Pac a pass for ducking the Marquez rubber-match until it was all but meaningless in the eyes of most, fighting opportune guys at opportune moments post-130, and of course hemming and hawing and making bullshit excuses wrt the blood tests.
One thing most of you don't understand, I'm not a fan of Floyd's in the same way I'm a fan of Duran, Ali, Morales, and Tyson. I'm perfectly willing to criticize him and have done so on occasion here. I'm a fan of his like I'm a fan of Pernell Whitaker or JMM, in the sense that I appreciate them for what they can do in the ring. But I'm perfectly objective about how Floyd is outside of it; believe me when I say that if the shoe were on the other foot, I'd be siding with Pac. On iPhone ATM and I hate typing on it, so more on that later.
PBF certainly is amazing in the ring, & at times as a boxing fan you can only marvel at some of the things he does. However, when you see an amazing talent like PBF, as a boxing fan, are you satisfied with the extent to which he has sought to challenge himself, & attempted to prove his greatness?
No, I'm not - Floyd obviously isn't interested in adding to his legacy any longer, hence his fighting so rarely. But I don't think he's ever ducked anyone, least of all Pacquiao. I believe the blame for the fight falling apart falls entirely on Pacquiao.
Not all that interested right now of rehearsing the Pacquiao positions. When do you think PBF lost interest in his legacy? Do you think that PBF has shown throughout his career a desire to seek out the greatest challenges, & if not, as a boxing fan, do you find that frustrating, given how astonishingly talented he obviously is? Are there any fights that you would have liked to see PBF have that he hasn't had? If so, why do you think they didn't happen? I'm not trying to be a smart-ass here. It's just that I think of a fighter like Ali (my favourite fighter OAT), & how talented he was,& how obsessed he was in proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was the greatest, & how as a boxing fan that was all you could ask for. I really don't think that PBF has that desire, & as a boxing fan, when I see incredible talent like that, maybe one of the greatest ever talents, which is why I expect so much, I find it frustrating.
You're assuming I gave Pacquiao a pass for not doing the rubber match, you weren't even a member here back then unless you were under a different alias. Anyway, I actually didn't find any fault with Pac not fighting Marquez again. I felt JMM won the first fight and the 2nd I've watched twice and couldn't figure out who won that one, it was just too close of a match up. At any rate why would I criticize Pac for not taking a third JMM fight during a period when he matched up against DLH, Hatton, Margarito, Clottey, and Cotto? All those guys were tough matchups in their own right and most were tougher. Besides he did fight JMM twice already so to say he's ducking the rubber match would be a stretch I would think. I think you're really reaching here trying to make it sound like I should have a reason to be critical of Pacquiao the way I do with Floyd when you know as well as I do that Pacquiao's competition for the last few years has been flawless. So why don't you guys just stick to the only ammunition you have: the overrated statistic that Pacquiao fought guys who came off loses. Not that it really means anything either way. Anyway, I really do regret saying Floyd fights pretenders and Manny fights contenders. Not because it isn't true, it is absolutely true. I regret it because I bought Pacquiao into this discussion when really IMO this whole thing is about Floyd and his past competition level and has nothing to do with Manny.
Same with if Floyd had beaten Margarito. Slightly past prime Mosley BUTCHERED him for example. Destruction and Mayhem thinks that y'all musta forgot!!
Nah... Floyd fans have been vindicated by Floyd's career. His haters are the ones that are not true boxing fans. Thus is the wisdom of Destruction and Mayhem!!
Nope, what's weird is you...he's a fighter, so freaking what? You guys are the winiest bunch I've ever seen. You sound like women, jilted lovers. Anything negative you can say about this guy and his family, true or not, whether or not it happened a lifetime ago or not at all, gets you off. Some of the strangest shit I've ever seen... Oh well, I guess its true that haters gonna hate.
Damn, and people have the nerve to call me a Floyd nuthugger? The difference between myself and the Pac huggers is again, if the shoe were on the other foot, I'd be shitting all over Floyd for it.
:giggle: This shit again. I never get tired of rebutting it. Margarito wasn't as relevant, at the time, as Judah and Baldomir. After Baldy...100% of fighters in history would have fought Oscar De La Hoya for a 5th title than take a backward step and fight the relatively unknown and unproven slugger. Oscar, espcially as a jnr middle, was far more formidable opponent than Margarito. Only the most idiotic of idiots would say otherwise. Are you one of those idiots, Anthony? Williams? When should Floyd have fought Williams? Give me the timeframe. Cintron?? :: Cotto wanted no part of Floyd when Floyd moved up. None. When Cotto finally got some confidence, Floyd was already retired. It's convenient for him to be ready to face Floyd when Floyd had walked away from the game. Clottey?? Come on. Destruction and Mayhem is surrounded by morons!!
I could poke holes through all your bullshit, but that isnt the point. While you try to justify the duck, im simply pointing out the duck. 2007 would have been a perfect time instead of fighting Hatton he could have fought Williams. Especially since he ducked Margarito he could fight the guy that beat Margarito. But we know that wasnt happening. Cintron?? :: He could have fought Cotto after Cotto beat shane. He conveniently retired. Yeah Clottey A tough fight. Another fighter who gave Margarito all he could handle. Stay out of the room full of mirrors.
